The HfP chat thread – Sunday 12th September

We are running this daily chat thread on Head for Points during the coronavirus outbreak.

Historically, the daily ‘Bits’ articles were the de facto repository for random comments and questions.  With the news flow being lighter, we are running fewer ‘Bits’ articles.

The comments under this article are where you should post questions about travel and, indeed, anything else on your mind.  At this tricky time, and given that many of you are at home, we want the HfP community to have a place to chat.

Please only comment under the main articles on the site if your comment is directly related to the topic of the article.  This has long-term benefits as it keeps the commentary relevant for people who read those articles in the future.

Old chat threads are hidden from the HfP home page.  If you want to look for something in an old thread, click here.  This brings up all the articles in our ‘General’ category which includes the chat threads.

If Turkey gets moved to amber, is there any chance of some new hotel availability in late September with BA holidays? I was trying to book something since I have to travel to Istanbul soon, but there is literally nothing available.

Was hoping to book with BA and bag some extra tier points to get upgraded to Silver.

  • Sprout says:

Anyone got a monese referral code they’d like to share? thanks

  • stairali says:

Am I correct to think that if I pay a for holiday using my BAPP, I am still covered under all aspects of my Platinum Amex Insurance as it falls under the definition of an Amex ‘Card Account’?

  • Sloth says:

Anyone know if you can buy Amazon/JL gift cards in Sainsbury’s? Went to the one in Epsom today and the selection was pretty poor so wondering if it’s worth trying a few more branches? Thanks

    • mark2 says:

I have certainly bought JL at Sainsburys/Morrisons/Tesco but as you say the choice at Sainsburys is often very poor.

  • Lady London says:

At least one of the transactions was done in 2020 keeping EU coverage (noting EU261 was kept still in UK law)

Chargeback and s75 IIRC the time period to submit starts when you become aware the contract (and/or statutory rights like EU261 governing it) are not fulfilled. I contend that moment was when passenger discovered the tickets which had been agreed to be kept open for rerouting (ie still providing what had been purchased/applying statutory rights) had in fact disappeared. That’s when the passenger first became aware he was not receiving what he purchased. Obvs claim asap but that would be my position as the first date I became aware.

    BA vs IB silver

BA requires 37 flight segments, however IB seems to require only 25 flight segments as per below by end of March 2022.
    https://www.iberia.com/gb/iberiaplus/silver/

Does this sound about right and should I credit my flights to IB instead of BA if I have realistic chance of making silver in IB and I am currently already BA silver?

    • marcw says:

But BA Silver and IB Silver are not the same tier. IB Silver (OW Ruby) is equivalent to BA Bronze (OW Ruby).
BA Silver is OW Sapphire, which is equivalent to IB Gold
and BA Gold (OW Emerald), is equivalent to IB Platinum

    • ChrisC says:

A quick read of the link shows that Iberia Silver (Plata) DOES NOT get lounge access.

What benefits of having IB silver would you get that aren’t available via BA silver?

      • Rob says:

IB Silver is equivalent to BA Bronze, and so on up the scale.

        • Roger says:

          Thanks all.
          That clears up everything.

My mate who flies with me gets upgraded to business class on IB3166/3167 with A350 the aircraft Rhys’s article today.

But it’s clear I should stick to BA.

  • Swiss Jim says:

Data point. Applied for Amex Platinum last week. Card received, phoned up today for £200 free dining credit. Added without a single question (other than obligatory security question). Very happy…

  • Anna says:

Mr & Mrs property The Cow in Derbyshire is now taking points bookings – I’ve booked for my birthday next year as we need somewhere near enough to go for one night, being mid-GCSEs – and it looks gorgeous! You can book individual rooms (they are all slightly different) and breakfast is included. A Sunday night was 37,500 points.

    • Mr. AC says:

Looks very interesting! However I could not find any mention of breakfast being included in the points rates. How do you know it is?

      • Anna says:

On their website it states that breakfast is included in all bookings – also I have a feeling this applies to all (or many) Mr & Mrs properties.

        • Yorkie Aid says:

Great find Anna. Our Mr & Mrs Smith stay at Linthwaite House on points included breakfast.
