We are running this daily chat thread on Head for Points during the coronavirus outbreak.

Historically, the daily ‘Bits’ articles were the de facto repository for random comments and questions.  With the news flow being lighter, we are running fewer ‘Bits’ articles.

The comments under this article are where you should post questions about travel and, indeed, anything else on your mind.  At this tricky time, and given that many of you are at home, we want the HfP community to have a place to chat.

Please only comment under the main articles on the site if your comment is directly related to the topic of the article.  This has long-term benefits as it keeps the commentary relevant for people who read those articles in the future.

Old chat threads are hidden from the HfP home page.  If you want to look for something in an old thread, click here.  This brings up all the articles in our ‘General’ category which includes the chat threads.

    Hello,

I would like to ask, has anyone got any experience with the BA Avios redemption book with confidence refund process? I have been looking at their t&c and could find anything.

Like, do you have to pay a fee etc?

    Thanks

    • David says:

£35 – unless the tax is less than that – otherwise all avios and cash refunded.

    • Rob says:

There isn’t one for Avios bookings, because the standard ‘cancel up 24 hours before departure for £35 per person for a full refund’ policy applied regardless.

      • CS says:

        Hi Rob and David,

Thanks, the one that I am looking at is to Milan, you have to pay £2 + Avios points.
I mean, the £2 is nothing, but will they give the Avios back?

        Thanks

    • KZ says:

CS as part of BWC you can still claim a future travel voucher as well if you prefer

      • CS says:

        Hi KZ

What will the value of the voucher? Because they didn’t mention that. Like is it 50p/Point (for example).

But to be honest, £2 is nothing at the moment.

        Thanks.

        • TGLoyalty says:

The value of the voucher is exactly what you pay in Avios and £ for the flights.

You can only use vouchers with Avios in them via phone.

        • pauldb says:

The problem is the £2 avios option is usually poor value. I would always book the £50 option and settle for the £50 being held in a FTV if I need to rebook, unless I actually expect to cancel.

          • CS says:

            Hi pauldb,

So, I guess, in the worst-case scenario, if I have to cancel that £2 Avios option. I will get the full Avios refund and £2 of FTV? Which I don’t mind to be honest, because it is very hard for me to get a holiday out with my job.

            Thanks,

          • ChrisC says:

            No.

If you take the FTV it will contain both the avios AND the cash elements.

        • KZ says:

Yes, the FTV would have both points and cash components of what you paid. You can apply for this by simply filling out a form online, although as mentioned below, using it may be a hassle given the difficulty in ringing up the call centres.

Hi the annual fee on the plat Amex card , is this charged in full on your first statement or can you split it over 12 months

  • BrotherBear says:

Are there any tricks or offers to purchase tickets for Peppa Pig World?

Also any recommendations for places to stay / other things to do whilst there?

    Thanks in advance.

    • Doommonger says:

Yes, Chewton Glen is quite close but seriously expensive. Alternatively the Hilton at the Ageas Bowl Southampton is closer and very nice, even better if the cricket is on. If you had posted this last year, I would have said stay at my old mums house in the new forest, close to Fordingbridge, but it’s now been sold. In terms of things to do there are hundreds of laid up BA planes at Hurn airport which you can look at if your a plane spotting type, even if your not, its a damn sight more interesting than Peppa Pig World which is a bit shite.

      • BrotherBear says:

        Haha thanks for all that.

Not my choice of a way to spend a day but the little one is obsessed so will make her happy.

    • pauldb says:

New Forest is nice to explore. Chewton Glen or Limewood, or several well regarded more reasonable options around Brockenhurst. If you fancy to coast, I like the location of Christchurch Harbour Hotel.

Overall Paultons is a very decent theme park for young kids.

      • pauldb says:

An hour from Longleat, just about combinable depending where you’re coming from.

  • Jimmy says:

I stayed at the HIX nearby – perfectly adequate for us and our toddler. Sorry no tricks that I know of.

    Enjoy! 🙂

Is it possible to find older chat threads anywhere?

    • SteveJ says:

Last paragraph in this chat ‘article’ tells you how

    • AJA says:

Last paragraph of the article above says:

“Old chat threads are hidden from the HfP home page.  If you want to look for something in an old thread, click here.  This brings up all the articles in our ‘General’ category which includes the chat threads”

Click the word “here” in the sentence

    • KZ says:

      Ah yes, thank you!

  • Jane says:

It’s rarely (if ever) reduced. If your little one is small enough for the peppa part, get there first thing and head straight there. The queues layer in the day are horrible. If they are older, same strategy but straight to the new bit, tornado springs. It’s a great park and if you go outside school holidays can be pretty quiet. Food options, as with all theme parks are mediocre at best. Salisbury is only 35 minute away for a change of scene.
