We are running this daily chat thread on Head for Points during the coronavirus outbreak.

Historically, the daily ‘Bits’ articles were the de facto repository for random comments and questions.  With the news flow being lighter, we are running fewer ‘Bits’ articles.

The comments under this article are where you should post questions about travel and, indeed, anything else on your mind.  At this tricky time, and given that many of you are at home, we want the HfP community to have a place to chat.

Please only comment under the main articles on the site if your comment is directly related to the topic of the article.  This has long-term benefits as it keeps the commentary relevant for people who read those articles in the future.

Old chat threads are hidden from the HfP home page.  If you want to look for something in an old thread, click here.  This brings up all the articles in our ‘General’ category which includes the chat threads.

    I see she’s back…

Keeping it in the family, and given last night’s news, is anyone interested in joining me for a startup venture:‘Dry Andy’

Btw if you want to watch the tennis later, it’s on ch4, no need to sign up for a free streaming service.

As Anna highlighted yesterday i checked my IHG free night reward issued last march. It is noted that IHG free night have changed the policy it is limited for 12 months only from the issued date. It used to be booked by when i checked last time. No communication at all on this change is pretty poor IMO

    • Kevin says:

Those who has several reward nights vouchers within their account needed to be aware if this unexpected change

    • Anna says:

Not just me then! Hopefully I can use mine for the Kimpton Seafire next July just before it expires, cash price usually hovers around the £600 mark!

I saw this yesterday , so thank you to Anna for highlighting this .

My card anniversary date is in March and when I checked my account this morning I had the following 2 free nights :
        Book 1 between 03/04/2020 and 12/31/2021
        Book 1 between 03/03/2021 and 03/03/2022
When I clicked details it stated that they must be redeemed within 12 months of date of issue . I then used the one that expired on 12/31/2021 to successfully make a booking in April 2022 , this is what I had anticipated that I would be doing with it until I saw Anna’s post yesterday . After seeing the post I was expecting that I would not be able to use it for a stay in April 2022. Have my voucher conditions been changed or not , or will I notice my first change of conditions when I get my next voucher in March 2022 ?

Hi all, do nectar points have an expiry date? My main source of them is Sainsbury’s. Just received an Awardwallet reminder they expire in a month but the last time I shopped at Sainsbury’s was a week ago.

Out Saturday morning working towards the sign up bonus on the platinum amex and card started being declined. Had been playing up online yesterday also.
After calling up they say the account is under review and won’t tell me why or an ETA and were trying to insist on contacting my through my work email/phone which I don’t have access to out and about.
Anyone had this? Spending certainly hasn’t been extreme, on track for the sign on bonus and pretty mundane household spend. Pretty poor service to not contact me and tell me the card has been frozen either.

    • JDB says:

I assume you are referring to a personal Plat? If it is a business Plat, they could be concerned about the mundane household spending to which you refer.

      • Nadeshka says:

Yep personal card, one of a couple I have on the same account and never had this before. The insistence on verifying through work email/phone was what concerned me since I’m actually going on mat leave shortly and won’t have any access to it at all.

Just glad we weren’t out trying to use the restaurant credit as that would have been embarrassing and frustrating to have to use a different card.

    • Sam G says:

I had similar and it was hard getting any explaination as to why. I had to pay it down to 0 mid month to get it working again

    • Yorkie Aid says:

I’ve had this too. Amex insisted that they had tried to contact me but they hadn’t. They asked for bank statements etc which I provided and then they decided to close my account on the grounds of credit risk. I had had a card for 18 years and never once missed a payment! I would never use them again tbh.

  • SteveJ says:

Any tips on getting a 241 on London Eye? I know the National Rail days out approach, but wondering if any other vouchers out there that people know of?

  • @mkcol says:

Any Oslo city centre walkable to Oslo Radhus (for my niece’s confirmation) or Karl Johans gate hotel recommendations ideally under £150/night? There is a plethora of choice making it tough to narrow things down.
There don’t seem to be any in the Hilton/IHG/Marriott chains to use/earn points.

    • Graham Walsh says:

In Oslo you have really only have a choice of Radisson or Nordic Choice hotels. Used for work for a Norwegian company and was there once a month. There’s a nice Radisson which has a bar on the top floor which overlooks the whole city. Nice views. Oslo is quite walkable.

    • DMW says:

Plenty of Thon hotels all over the city (try the old/traditional Bristol in the city centre, or Opera for modern and vicinity to main train station). Cheap yet fine. Nights credit to Discovery. Entire city is walkable.

      • @mkcol says:

I’d seen plenty of Thon hotels but not realised they were part of Discovery which I have platinum or something in, so I’ve plonked for Opera after consulting with my brother who lives there.
Who knows what if anything that will get me but certainly worthwhile trying.
