The HfP chat thread – Saturday 11th September

We are running this daily chat thread on Head for Points during the coronavirus outbreak.

Historically, the daily ‘Bits’ articles were the de facto repository for random comments and questions.  With the news flow being lighter, we are running fewer ‘Bits’ articles.

The comments under this article are where you should post questions about travel and, indeed, anything else on your mind.  At this tricky time, and given that many of you are at home, we want the HfP community to have a place to chat.

Please only comment under the main articles on the site if your comment is directly related to the topic of the article.  This has long-term benefits as it keeps the commentary relevant for people who read those articles in the future.

Old chat threads are hidden from the HfP home page.  If you want to look for something in an old thread, click here.  This brings up all the articles in our ‘General’ category which includes the chat threads.

    Same here

  • The Savage Squirrel says:

Judging by the interest in Wimbledon, plenty of tennis fans here so let me be the first to say congratulations to Emma Raducanu who utterly dominated the tournament never dropping a set – or even really coming close to doing so.
Great final match with exceptional skill levels from both women – hoping that this is a rivalry that plays out in a few more slam finals over the next few years as should be a great watch.

Great maturity from an 18 year old. Great advert for Britain!

    • mr_jetlag says:

A shame Leylah Fernandez couldn’t take it to a third set. Emma clearly the better player tonight but I also hope this rivalry develops and sets the new standard for women’s tennis.

    • Harry T says:

Rather handy that we could watch the match on my phone using Amazon prime. Very impressed by the performance of both athletes, who have demonstrated remarkable grit and maturity to reach this level at such a young age.

The fact Emma won the tournament without dropping a set blows my mind!

      • Geoff says:

Yeah but it’s also a reflection on the quality of the field, she didn’t beat a single player whose name I recognised. Good win though.

        • Sloth says:

Whilst Fernandez had the harder side of the draw, I don’t think beating the Olympic champion or Rogers who had beaten Barty in the previous round, was particularly easy either…

  • Mike P says:

Absolutely unbelievable tennis. I’d like to see Novak win tomorrow to complete a weekend of amazing tennis history.

  • Polly says:

Wonderful gutsy play.. couldn’t watch it live, but on bbc commentary, great achievement. A great role model. Navratilova called it.

  • Andrew says:

Interesting that Emirates advertises itself around the stadium as ‘Emirates Airline’ and not just ‘Emirates’ as it’s advertised in the U.K. Maybe it requires an explanation as to the nature of its business as it’s not as well known in the US.

    • WaynedP says:

Probably a wise move on Emirates part when advertising their services in a country where majority do not own a passport and apparently 56% think that Arabic numerals shouldn’t be taught in American schools 🙄

    • BuildBackBetter says:

It’s more of an advert for Asian viewers than American.
