We are running this daily chat thread on Head for Points during the coronavirus outbreak.

Historically, the daily ‘Bits’ articles were the de facto repository for random comments and questions.  With the news flow being lighter, we are running fewer ‘Bits’ articles.

The comments under this article are where you should post questions about travel and, indeed, anything else on your mind.  At this tricky time, and given that many of you are at home, we want the HfP community to have a place to chat.

Please only comment under the main articles on the site if your comment is directly related to the topic of the article.  This has long-term benefits as it keeps the commentary relevant for people who read those articles in the future.

Old chat threads are hidden from the HfP home page.  If you want to look for something in an old thread, click here.  This brings up all the articles in our ‘General’ category which includes the chat threads.

Covent Garden Amex offer (spend £50 get £10).

Has anyone had any problems in the Apple Store (given sales are done are ipads on shop floor – given comments in the offer text).

    Planning to use this weekend.

    • Allan says:

Bought a pencil and had no issues. Done via the shop assistant’s ipad. Even let me split it on 2 cards

    • David says:

All worked fine for me in that store. Also allowed me to use BLC discount even though it says it’s useable only on line.

      • KBuffett says:

I thought the BLC discount was for online purchases only? There’s no mention of instore purchases on the BLC app?

        • David says:

I thought that too (and terms say it is), I just played dumb, showed my card and said I know there is a discount online was it the same in store. She checked her handheld for discounts available, it showed up and she applied discount. Winner.

    • Youllnever says:

No issues, although my payment was processed via their iPhone rather than iPad.

  • Dan says:

What is happening with BA statuses, will there be any extensions coming up? My Tier Point year ended 8th Sep and my card is showing 8th Sep 2022, I have silver but did no flying last year – so will only retain silver until October 2022….

On a positive note, it looks like the reduced thresholds are still there though…

    • AJA says:

Today’s date is 10 Sep 2021. So your status has been extended to 31 Oct 2022 with a TP year end date of 8 Sep 2022. In normal circumstances you would be moving down to Bronze come 1 Nov 2021.

      Brilliant, thx !

Nice to see that the free time from no longer having to churn ERNIE thousands through bendy methods is being put to good use 😆

      • Doommonger says:

Slow day at work! Actually, I messed up I think TG Loyalty may have been top , but I got bored after 14 pages or so. 🙂

      • Mike says:

Free time – reminds me when 3v stopped – I had so much time on my hands and a dyson vac full of the bits from scratching off to reveal the code on the 3 v card

        • Polly says:

Yesterday reminded me of the day 3V died.. pages and pages
Then we had to make do with the smallest cabbages ever!

    • Mike says:

Hey great analysis- do you know who posted the 1000 th post.

It would great is there an end of year analysis too.

    • Triath5 says:

The comments on this webpage really drive home the undeniable truth which is…You people all need to get a life.

There’s more to our limited time on earth than constantly refreshing a blog website to post anonymously seeking some sense of companionship.

      Have a great weekend!

      • Super Secret Stuff says:

By reading and commenting you are also doing the same, however you’re clearly lacking the brain cells to notice it which leads me to conclude you probably haven’t thought about people multi tasking…

      • Gormlesstraveller says:

@triath5 Maybe some of us are recovering from addiction issues and the dopamine reward of refreshing the comments helps to distract us

    • ankomonkey says:

Enjoyed this post very much 🙂

    • Anna says:

Really? I didn’t even get involved in the bendy fiasco! I’m not going to bother checking though, you’re much more dedicated than me, Doomster 🤣

      • Anna says:

But Queen of the Skies would be an awesome role.

      • ChrisC says:

me neither. I think I made a couple of sarcastic comments on Curve comments but the rest were trying to help people with proper queries.

    • Aston100 says:

      Thank you thank you.
In truth, I was very nervous, and my words just came out wrong. Sincerely, my only intention was to salute the incredible bravery and courage of the men and women who MS so tirelessly in the most difficult conditions. I apologise that my nerves got the better of me.

      • WaynedP says:

Forgot to thank your parents/life partner/co-stars/milkperson and everyone else who’s contributed to your lofty place in life 😆

  • WaynedP says:

Just received email invitation from Accor Live Limitless to apply for tickets to Elton John’s Farewell Yellow Brick Road concert in Hyde Park Fri 24th June 2022, with chance to win a suite upgrade if you apply for a ticket pair by 20th September.

    • Tony1 says:

I got that too – well several times – tried to book as soon as e mail came – no availability … typical

  • Graham Walsh says:

Did I miss something with Curve, tried to get cash out which is linked to my IHG and got declined. I used it the other day in a shop, so know Curve is working. Not gotten cash out in a while.

    • Anuj says:

Read the 1000+ comments yesterday or scroll back in this chat. It’s been blocked by creation

      • Graham Walsh says:

Thanks, I thought I saw it mentioned somewhere with a Curve update, wasn’t sure if I was dreaming 🙂

  • Hanif says:

Do we think BA will continue their Guernsey flights past September? – Thanks

  • Dave RG says:

It’s been a few years since I booked a flight. I remember last time, there was a website where I could register the flight details and it would notify me of any scheduling/aircraft changes in case BA didn’t, but I can’t for the life of me remember what it’s called. Anyone know the name and if it’s still available please?

  • YC says:

Any recent experience with travel to Jordan recently? Is it a breeze and welcoming tourist with open arms? Also, any issues with unmarried couples staying together or are they super strict on traditional laws?

    • Marc says:

      Hello
We’ve visited Jordan 4 times in the past 4 years (though not during Covid) and find it fascinating, welcoming and safe, certainly better than Egypt.
As a gay couple we have travelled both to cities, towns and villages all over and not just in the tourist areas staying in hotels and never had a problem – they may comment between themselves but that’s up to them. Once we were upgraded to the honeymoon suite! The usual Arab modesty applies and quite rightly so – no bare boobs out on the beach here but otherwise it’s fine, ceratinly in cities.
The worst thing you can do is to ridicule the King and the royal family – just don’t do it, their images are everywhere and they are central to Jordanian society.
I’d go back in a hearbeat!

      • Blair says:

There were bare boobs at RC Dubai Jumeirah this summer. I was rather astonished

        • Anna says:

Surprisingly for what has long been regarded as a conservative, Catholic country, Spain enshrines the right in law to be naked on any public beach!
Had to explain this to our teenagers in Tenerife last month as the naked dude frolicking in the waves among the families would definitely be locked up here 🤣

          • Blair says:

Odd one in Republic of Ireland too re nakedness on stage in the theatre having always been ok. Makes for some awkward/thrilling school days out to the theatre.

          • WaynedP says:

Wrong to ascribe Jewish and Muslim modesty requirements to Christianity.

Catholic theology ascribes no inherent shame or wrong to the naked human form. It’s individual relationships with it that have the potential to be wholesome or otherwise.

A hundred years ago, casual communal nudity was pursued with equal enthusiasm in Catholic dominated parts of Germany as it was in Protestant parts of Scandinavia.

Prurient prudery seems to largely be a peculiarly English thing.

          • Anna says:

WaynedP – you clearly haven’t read the works of St Paul then (and those traditionally ascribed to him).

        • Rob says:

Blimey. Never seen any of those in the Middle East.

        • TGLoyalty says:

          A good pair then …

      • YC says:

Thanks Marc – definitely not looking to go bare boobs. But was just worried if they are strict like Saudi and if women are fine to drive, etc. Do you think 1night dead sea, 1night petra, 2nights amman is too rushed?

        • davefl says:

From what I remember of my trip and it’s 10+ years ago, yes. Loved it but the distances are large and there were many armed checkpoints on the road where you had to have your docs checked.

I did 1 night dead sea Movenpick, 2 nights in Petra (do the Movenpick if you can as it’s right opposite the entrance), and getting in the gate at 7am on my second day with the place virtually deserted was worth it. 1st afternoon in Petra was with my guide, 2nd Morning from 7-12 was on my own before the car arrived to take me back to Amman

Then it took half a day to get back to Amman. I did 1 night at the beginning and one at the end in Amman before flying back via Cairo/Frankfurt/Manchester.
Endless wait in the transfer area at Cairo which I would never want to repeat.

        • Toppcat says:

No issues at all with unmarried couples.

Suggest your itinerary is a bit rushed. Petra is definitely worth two days, and I would recommend fitting in Wadi Rum as well.

Dead Sea was entertaining for a few hours, but we spent two nights there, and wished we had got on with seeing the rest of the country sooner.

          • YC says:

Thanks all – might do a last minute trip to Jordan with it being Amber and entry just requiring vaccinations. Surprised its not been mentioned here as a good current destination (unless I have mis-read the current situation!)
