The HfP chat thread – Friday 10th September

We are running this daily chat thread on Head for Points during the coronavirus outbreak.

Historically, the daily ‘Bits’ articles were the de facto repository for random comments and questions.  With the news flow being lighter, we are running fewer ‘Bits’ articles.

The comments under this article are where you should post questions about travel and, indeed, anything else on your mind.  At this tricky time, and given that many of you are at home, we want the HfP community to have a place to chat.

Please only comment under the main articles on the site if your comment is directly related to the topic of the article.  This has long-term benefits as it keeps the commentary relevant for people who read those articles in the future.

Old chat threads are hidden from the HfP home page.  If you want to look for something in an old thread, click here.  This brings up all the articles in our ‘General’ category which includes the chat threads.

It seems Virgin haven’t further extended my status matched gold, following the email this week. Are others experiencing the same? Worth contacting them about it, given that they did email to say they would be extending by 6 months?

  • Roy says:

In a further move to distance themselves from Curve, Creation have now updated their mobile app to ensure their logo is a different colour from Curve’s logo.

Also, the new Creation app doesn’t work (for me, at least).

IHG Ambassador “stay once by Aug 31 to receive a reward night”.
I signed up to Ambassador for the first time recently, partly to take advantage of this offer, and stayed at the IC The George in Edinburgh on the last night of the promotion (Aug 31).
I haven’t seen anything to say that this stay triggered the promotion – ie no confirmation email or anything like that and don’t see a reward night popping up in the app.
Any info on when/how this appears into your IHG account? Or did I misread the promotion and staying overnight on Aug 31 was actually one night too late?
    Thanks!

    • Young L says:

I think you need to check-out by Aug 31 in order to qualify.

    • Anna says:

IHG can be funny with dates, my free night 40k voucher was use by April 30th and wouldn’t let me book that actual night.

Anyone know if BA are still using Marhaba lounge in Dubai? Or is the BA lounge open? Flying to Lhr tomorrow

  • Jonathan says:

Has anyone else been sent one of the old style BA Amex cards lately ?

My blue card was due to expire at the end of the month, Amex told me to expect a new card around the middle of the month, a few days ahead of their projected timeframe, my new card arrived today, but it’s the old style, with numbers embossed on the front instead of being printed on the back !

I guess they’re going to clear out all their supplies of the old card designs before they start on the new designs

    • Duncan says:

Original or BAPP? I’m due to get a replacement card soon, and I really want one with the new design. 😬 I have a nice new wallet and I want to avoid putting cards with embossed numbers in the outer slots.

    • Tony says:

I upgraded to BAPP over the weekend – new design card arrived yesterday.

    • Rob says:

No – Rhys has got a new style one.

      • Youllnever says:

Got the new one recently as well. Looks like you might just have received one of the last ones they had.

  • Allan says:

Just been sent a copy of High Life and Business Life from BA by post. Thought it was going paperless!

  • Si says:

I’ve been emailed by Curve asking for prove of income etc do to high volume of Transactions with NSI. Was hoping after yesterday’s developments, I might have dodged that dance but here I am… Curve is now all but redundant to me [again] so it is worth me trying to stump up the info and fight it or should I just try to close account and wash hands of it?

I’ve actually been fortunate that I’ve come into some money recently (inheritance) so I may be able to blag it, but they already know what I’ve been doing.

Apart from them closing account, what is worse that could happen? Notes on financial record/credit score etc??

    • stevenhp1987 says:

      It’s just a KYC check.

Provide what they ask for and you’ll be fine.

    • TGLoyalty says:

Nothing will happen just provide the details requested.

    • Damian says:

They could create a SAR protecting themselves from money laundering. Hence why it’s best to provide the info requested. This may be taken into consideration by other banks when they carry out KYC checks.

      • Si says:

I will submit as requested and hopefully all will wash downstream until all is forgotten. The timing may prove either perfect due to lack of future “creative” opportunity, or very unfortunate, as all investigated activities will now be past-tense and the stable door has already been bolted

    • SteveJ says:

Not happened to me yet, but sod them, I’d be opening a card in the other half’s name and just closing the relationship.

    • Char Char says:

Out of interest I assume a metal card?

      • Si says:

The old skool free one. Had it for years and never really used it for anything until certain activities were brought to my attention. Must have jumped in a bit hard

  • Nomid says:

Extra 3000 Avios for £500 spend on supp BAPP.
    Has anyone got it?
