The HfP chat thread – Friday 10th September

We are running this daily chat thread on Head for Points during the coronavirus outbreak.

Historically, the daily ‘Bits’ articles were the de facto repository for random comments and questions.  With the news flow being lighter, we are running fewer ‘Bits’ articles.

The comments under this article are where you should post questions about travel and, indeed, anything else on your mind.  At this tricky time, and given that many of you are at home, we want the HfP community to have a place to chat.

Please only comment under the main articles on the site if your comment is directly related to the topic of the article.  This has long-term benefits as it keeps the commentary relevant for people who read those articles in the future.

Old chat threads are hidden from the HfP home page.  If you want to look for something in an old thread, click here.  This brings up all the articles in our ‘General’ category which includes the chat threads.

I have been using Beardy with Bendy for some time. The Beardy underlying Mastercard has now expired, I have been sent a new card by Beardy to replace it.

I have tried to register that card with Bendy and it is saying that the card type cannot be registered and to try another…any ideas?!

  • Super Secret Stuff says:

Anyone looking for a new phone contract with free EU roaming: VOXI still have free EU roaming and a few extra countries. Run by Vodafone so so really good coverage. Well priced, unlimited calls, texts and social media. Refer a friend offer too, £20 Amazon voucher

    • Andrew says:

      Yeah pretty transparent!

      • Nick says:

If the offer is still there when my 3 contract is up and they triple the price to force me to switch, I’ll happily take SSS’s offer. I for one am grateful he chose to share here, I wasn’t aware there was anyone still offering free roaming.

        • Super Secret Stuff says:

That is why I shared it, when I saw the email I thought Oh I still have EU roaming I should share this. Best to get someone else to refer you as I don’t use Amazon. Refer a friend is nearly always on in some form or another

    • Aston100 says:

Dear SSS, are you done shilling for Sainsburys then?

      • Super Secret Stuff says:

No I still love Sainsbury and my account has gone back to normal now, need some beef mince on Sunday and will happily take the 150 points

      • Super Secret Stuff says:

Also how is everyone doing with Nectar connect? I have reframed from asking as some people started to think I work for Sainsbury’s… I don’t

        • Toby says:

I’ve done pretty well out of it! I’ve got a few offers of 60 nectar per £ spent which caught my attention. You?

          • Super Secret Stuff says:

I’ve got about 4,000 points so far across Costa, Just Eat and Pets at Home. Had problems though as connection didn’t work at first so loaded manually. Nothing as interesting as 60 points per £!

Well actually, no new offers at all really…

        • Andrew says:

Not bad really. The Open Banking system means they are tracking accurately.

Stocked up at Neal’s Yard today. 10% MBNA, 20pts/£ Nectar Connect, 15% NHS and 4% PAW

          • Super Secret Stuff says:

Nice! I’ve had problems with the tracking as apparently the connection didn’t go through… contacted support and they added manually

  • The Urbanite says:

The floodgates were open for people to fill their boots and get their 3 million IHG points for £99 for quite a while.

Every value-added route has a shelf life this one has sadly expired. Time to thank Creation for the chips and keep it moving!

    • VerdantBacon says:

Creation with curve party is over, but the creation after party continues. I’ll thank them once it’s time to stumble home!

      • Luke says:

Have you got a route that isn’t treated as cash advance? (And doesn’t incur interest unless settled immediately)

        • Lady London says:

          Tum-tee-tum-tee-tum-tum

Anyone who’s been paying attention here, or has been prepared to look back a bit or intelligently search, should have worked out many options worth testing.

  • rams1981 says:

mine is still there with 5 days left. I used earlier today

  • the_real_a says:

No it expired and started again on my portal. Period of 3-4 days when the offer was marked expired.

  • Anna says:

IHG upgrades seem to be back! (I haven’t seen any decent ones for ages). I relented and decided I can justify booking 2 rooms at the IC Porto next summer as I’ve managed to get much cheaper options on our other summer trip so booked one of the rooms through Emyr – which includes upgrade, breakfast, a free dinner and late check out – and several decent upgrade options popped up, such as junior suite for 65 euros extra per night.

    • Anna says:

Or 59 euros on a points booking so check all the options …

      • meta says:

As a Spire you’ll 99% get upgraded to a junior suite for free at IC Porto and pretty much guaranteed for Ambassadors. No point in paying for it. Executive Rooms and Junior Suites are quite similar. I think the difference is 2-5m2 depending on the suite. They are renovating duplex suites though to be completed in October.

        • BP says:

Hopefully. There from tomorrow for 2 nights before SSDV.

        • Anna says:

Great – thanks for letting me know! We’re not staying over a weekend so I was in 2 minds about making sure I am Ambassador at that point but will probably renew before we go now and use the free night another time.
The duplex suite looks lovely but it actually worked out cheaper to get 2 standard rooms.

  • Andrew says:

M&M Direct. £50/£10 offer on Amex is good.

15% LBG, 15% PAW & 15% Airtime is probably better.

    • Super Secret Stuff says:

Damn I only managed £10 and 12%! 12% via TaCo Bell

No PAW and Voxi not on Airtime

  • Peter Taysum says:

My Tier Point collection year end has now updated to 8th September 2022; with TP requirement to “retain Gold” at 1125 so looks like BA has extended this beyond the July date as Rob raised previously…
