The HfP chat thread – Friday 10th September

We are running this daily chat thread on Head for Points during the coronavirus outbreak.

Historically, the daily ‘Bits’ articles were the de facto repository for random comments and questions.  With the news flow being lighter, we are running fewer ‘Bits’ articles.

The comments under this article are where you should post questions about travel and, indeed, anything else on your mind.  At this tricky time, and given that many of you are at home, we want the HfP community to have a place to chat.

Please only comment under the main articles on the site if your comment is directly related to the topic of the article.  This has long-term benefits as it keeps the commentary relevant for people who read those articles in the future.

Old chat threads are hidden from the HfP home page.  If you want to look for something in an old thread, click here.  This brings up all the articles in our ‘General’ category which includes the chat threads.

I had a test (?) payment of £20 on one of my cards to Wise that I don’t recognise. Has anyone else had this? Might it have been a promo mentioned on previous days’ comments that I might have forgotten eg a prepaid forex card that Wise manage but under a different brand? Thanks

  • Marc says:

Anyone else having problems with Curve card’s acceptance of Creation cards? I received a message this morning stating that with immediate effect I cannot charge to Creation. Very strange…

  • VINZ says:

Hi all, do you know what lounges are currently available at Heathrow T2 for those flying with Air Maroc? I see there’s a Plaza Lounge – how do you get in? With your plat Amex?

  • Andrew says:

Collinson now offering Day 2 at home test, which with the AMEX20 code makes them £55.20.

    • Blair says:

EU digital covid pass offering test free travel, day 2 test cost £0. Just sayin….

      • Harry T says:

You have to remember that our #sovereignty is more valuable than hassle free travel, frictionless trade with our closest neighbours, and a functioning economy…

        • Blair says:

Daily Mail headline: “Now Brussels bureaucrants want YOU to be able to travel test-free. Britain says NO” followed by “Ursula Von Der Leyen puts on VERY leggy display as she announces the end of intra-EU testing”

          • Pete M says:

I bet you we’d still have tests even if we hadn’t left. This country is Special!

          • bafan says:

I lolled out loud – it’s funny because it’s true!

          • Phil says:

Absolutely. Sovereignty isn’t worth squat if it doesn’t come with a bucket full of propagandist bluster, an undercurrent of xenophobia and a nasal swab shoved up your nostril!!!

  • N says:

i’ve tried to find this everywhere but no luck. what is the transfer ratio of amex points to Melia Rewards? it’s easy to find the Hilton and Marriot ratio but still can’t find it for Melia. thanks!

    • Andrew says:

Log into your membership rewards account and it will tell you when you select to make a transfer

    • Andy says:

Since when is Melia an MR partner? Last time I checked only Marriott and Hilton showed up (and Radisson were suspended)

      • Rob says:

It’s not. You could at one point redeem for a room voucher (x,000 for a y-star Melia hotel) but those got dropped, probably because redeeming them via Melia’s Spanish call centre was too difficult.

    • TGLoyalty says:

For some strange reason unknown to anyone Amex isn’t actually a partner with Meliá for transfers of MR points in the UK

  • Blair says:

Asking for a friend: any recent experience of retention bonuses on Amex PRG?

  • Mark says:

Is anyone on here currently paying for Curve?
I have Curve metal and have done since inception but about 10 months ago on mhy renewal they stopped charging me the fee.

    • Blair says:

Annual fee yes for Metal. Will review the numbers this weekend as main purpose was unlimited forex whilst earning points.

    • Roger S says:

Yes ! I didn’t switch cards after the introductory offer (same price as original card). They charge 14.99/month to my Marriott (Creation MC). I think I’ll cancel this after the text from Creation yesterday saying “ With immediate effect we will be unable to process any transactions using your Curve Card where the transaction is allocated to your Creation issued credit card”. The only feature left that is useful to me is FX with no service charge. (I can get that from Starling (and others). The insurance I have via Platinum Amex🤔

    • idrive says:

YES and I never even received the card, i tried the chat does not work and need to find a way to talk to them.

  • Amo says:

Does anyone know if I can no-show for a hotel that’s part of a BA flight and holiday booking without any issues? I’ve already taken the outbound flight and only added the hotel as it brought the cost down of the overall trip.
