We are running this daily chat thread on Head for Points during the coronavirus outbreak.

Historically, the daily ‘Bits’ articles were the de facto repository for random comments and questions.  With the news flow being lighter, we are running fewer ‘Bits’ articles.

The comments under this article are where you should post questions about travel and, indeed, anything else on your mind.  At this tricky time, and given that many of you are at home, we want the HfP community to have a place to chat.

Please only comment under the main articles on the site if your comment is directly related to the topic of the article.  This has long-term benefits as it keeps the commentary relevant for people who read those articles in the future.

Old chat threads are hidden from the HfP home page.  If you want to look for something in an old thread, click here.  This brings up all the articles in our ‘General’ category which includes the chat threads.

  • KBuffett says:

I was quietly hoping for a whole host of new AmEx offers today. I have a new Boss one, nothing else really.

    • Andrew says:

+1! Was hoping for a Monday deluge, but just Hugo Boss, yawn. I guess they gave us the dinning offer and Harrods last week so we need to wait for something exciting again.

    • R says:

      +1, what’s going on …

    • Super Secret Stuff says:

The El Vino offer looks interesting and not too badly priced considering central London. £7 to £10 for a glass of what appears to be good quality wine

      • Jordan D says:

I have an office near El Vino. It is awfully overpriced, and awful service.

        • Super Secret Stuff says:

          Oh, maybe not then!

          • JDB says:

I think you may have missed the boat by 30+ years. Was fun when the journos were still in Fleet Street and not so many options in those days.

    • Andrew says:

15% at Lakeland Plastics, that turned up this morning, ties in with the Nectar Connect 20pts offer.

Cheapest place for official CO2 refills.

  • Ady says:

    Morning all,

Not sure if this has already been covered, but I just had my companion voucher triggered on my free BA Amex as I have already spent 12k this year, and the validity of the voucher seems to be 18 months…. Probably a one off due to the changes but thought people may want to know. Apologies if already covered…

    • Mike P says:

I think all vouchers issued this year come with an additional 6 months validity. Interesting data point, thanks for sharing.

    • AJA says:

Don’t forget your new style voucher is only valid for economy class. I would have upgraded to the BAPP before 1 Sep to get the old style voucher that allows business and first class redemptions.

      • Ady says:

I’ve already got one old style companion voucher valid for BC in the bank and no way I will be doing two long haul redemptions in the next couple of years unfortunately, so will probably only use the voucher for short haul economy from LCY…

  • KBuffett says:

I’m going to leave it until the last moment to convert my old style 241’s into FTV’s. Hopefully there will be further extensions to 241’s. My first one expires Dec2021

    • AJA says:

It’s a gamble. BA could shut down the ability to exchange for a FTV at any point. My OH has one that expires in Feb 2022 and we are hoping for an extension to the vouchers too along with an extension to status for me a Feb year end!

      • Mouse says:

I would guess BA would give a few days notice about stopping issuing FTVs, or it would be leaked in advance

    • Mike says:

KBuffet – I am in the same position, I find it really strange that BA have not announced an extension to existing 241s yet

  • Aaron says:

    Morning all,

I had a quick question re Amex refer a friend bonus. The website says that one can earn a max of 90,000 points per calendar year.

Does this 90,000 points per calendar year limit apply per card, per card family (MR, Avios) or an aggregate of all cards across different families (e.g., 50,000 MR points + 40,000 Avios)?

    Thank you so much!

    • TGLoyalty says:

      Per card family

So 90k MR and 90k Avios.

    • Andrew says:

Per card – so your Platinum has 90k, your Gold has 90k, your BAPP has 90k etc

      • Rob says:

It is per MR account so if you have a Gold and Platinum, for some reason, you are capped at 90k between them. But, yes, 90k Avios, 90k Bonvoy, 90k MR etc all possible – and indeed which I do myself.

      • TGLoyalty says:

only if you’ve been lucky enough to receive two MR accounts it also resets the 90k if you merge the MR accounts after hitting 90k on your platinum for example

  • jek says:

Just a point of information about the restaurant offer: I applied for plat on the 1st September after seeing the offer and today it appeared in my list of offers automatically, no need to add it via chat.

    • Louise K says:

Do you have any other offers?

I joined on 31/8 and the dining offer came up over the weekend but no other offers available to me. Have only spent about £3k

  • Rob says:

They are very, ahem, niche compared to Amex. My total earnings since it launched are 76p.

    • ChrisC says:

I’m on £18. The bulk of that from a 10% rebate on an IHG booking (once only usage unfortunately)

  • Michael C says:

Someone asked the other day if “booking with confidence” applies to Iberia, but it’s only with a BA code, right?
Their own website says a voucher/change ticket is restricted to “Covid-related issues within 15 days prior to your flight”.

    • AJA says:

It’s my understanding that BWC only applies to IB operated flights booked via BA with a BA flight number.

      • Nick says:

@AJA as I said yesterday, BWC applies to anyone with a BA TICKET (125-XX). I can’t shout TICKET loudly enough. Nothing at all to do with flight numbers or codes.

  • Dominic says:

Hi. Does anybody know if I purchase a curve upgrade, would that allow me to find my Hargreaves Lansdown Share account (it’s my IHG premium connected to my curve) I find myself topping up a lot and it would be good to earn the points.

    • Andrew H says:

I’ve used Curve Metal with Interactive Investor; it worked fine with Lloyds MC (the one that used to be 1 avios per £5). It works with Tesco, but DON’T, as Tesco charge cash advance. I can’t yet get it to work with VA+… it should do apparently, but…

So, just try it, with a small amount to check no charges. Tesco did refund me as a one off.

    • Toppcat says:

I have used curve metal to fund Fidelity and Interactive Investor, with various cards (but not IHG), but I don’t know about HL.

Agree that it’s a good way to generate a decent number of points!
