We are running this daily chat thread on Head for Points during the coronavirus outbreak.

Historically, the daily ‘Bits’ articles were the de facto repository for random comments and questions.  With the news flow being lighter, we are running fewer ‘Bits’ articles.

The comments under this article are where you should post questions about travel and, indeed, anything else on your mind.  At this tricky time, and given that many of you are at home, we want the HfP community to have a place to chat.

Please only comment under the main articles on the site if your comment is directly related to the topic of the article.  This has long-term benefits as it keeps the commentary relevant for people who read those articles in the future.

Old chat threads are hidden from the HfP home page.  If you want to look for something in an old thread, click here.  This brings up all the articles in our ‘General’ category which includes the chat threads.

  • BP says:

Writing this from The One Palacio, Lisbon. Highly recommend this hotel for anyone visiting Lisbon. Great central location, very nice rooms, an amazing pool area, maybe the best breakfast I’ve ever had in a hotel and the service is great.

    • Andrew H says:

Looks cool. Had to cancel Lisbon for the second autumn running (this time because of job change). Will bear this one in mind. Not TOO expensive either.

      • BP says:

We got a great deal on Agoda. £120 a night B&B including a room upgrade and free cocktail. I’d happily pay more if I return.

      • DZOO says:

Check out Memmo Príncipe Real also – we stayed in both in May (when both properties were running at full occupancy) and much preferred it but each to their own!

        • BP says:

I did see that hotel but it was much more expensive. I’ve been super impressed with One Palacio to the point where I’d say that it’s up there with my Four Seasons and Mandarin Oriental stays.

  • Ls says:

Just got on a plane for QR J with Q suite. This seat is better than BA F! It is amazing.

    • KBuffett says:

      Where are travelling to?

    • Rob says:

We have been telling people this for years 🙂

      • Jonathan says:

Not sure I agree if solo & in a middle quad. It’s great for couples/families though.

      • Polly says:

Yep, always said the QR J was even better than BA F. Enjoy!
Wish we were going to Asia. Ever hopeful for Nov still for HKT or DPS. Dream on, l know.

    • Aston100 says:

Are the crew still dressed like they are about to go into an operating theatre?

    • Dominic says:

The ME3 in general offer better J seats (combined with service) than BA F seats imo.

      • KBuffett says:

In my option they are superior in every way, whilst BA moan that it’s unfair competition 🙄

        • TheInsiderFly says:

          Have BA ever moaned that?

          • JDB says:

I think you are right; with QR as their (IAGs) largest shareholder, BA doesn’t say too much. The US airlines and some legacy EU carriers have unsuccessfully made a big fuss.

          • KBuffett says:

I thought BA were part of the group trying to take action against Emirates? I may be wrong

    • WaynedP says:

      Enjoy. Am envious !

I’ve been looking at QR to JNB from both CDG and DUB return, and kick my heels for 11 nights to re-enter the UK without mandatory hotel quarantine.

Care to share your strategy for returning ?

  • Sam G says:

So I’ve finally decided to join the MS club on here. I’m pretty well read up and am playing around a little but one thing I can’t seem to do is feed the seagulls. Tried Solihull directly and a virtual Che card – no dice. Do I need a physical Che? I assume blue bendy doesn’t come into the mix as it isn’t free

(hopefully got all the codes right 🙂 )!

    • TGLoyalty says:

Solihull direct won’t work. Topping up Che with Solihull will attract interest, so pay off the whole balance asap.

Yes blue will attract a fee I think it’s 1.5%.

      Monese works…

      Maybe just stick with Ernie

    • SteveJ says:

Virtual Che should work fine, does for me. Don’t use the single use card.

    • Aston100 says:

Preloading Che using Solihull still works for me.
This is meant to be frowned upon and should incur the wrath of Creation.
However, much like all the commentary here about Paypal being quick to take action if you pay friends and family too much with your Amex, I’ve yet to see any hard evidence of that.

In fact, I’ve only read one report here where someone claimed to have been banned by Paypal.

      • Colin MacKinnon says:

I was an early victim of Snr Guevara, and wife has recently had a full fiscal from Che – even though she has never manufactured a thing.

  • Josh says:

Has anyone stayed at Aguas de Ibiza Grand Luxe Hotel in Ibiza?

Can you comment on it? Location, services etc?

    Thanks!

    • Njb says:

Havent stayed there but had lunch when we were staying in hotel next door. I really liked it – quite trendy and sophisticated but staff were very helpful.
A bit of a walk into town and only a small beach nearby as I remember.

  • jek says:

How long does it take for the Priority Pass to arrive after being accepted for Amex Plat? (The Plat card has arrived).

    • AFKAE says:

I recently applied for a plat for the new sign on bonus and the pp card arrived in 2-3 days. Just in time to use last Tuesday.

      • Polly says:

You don’t even have to wait for the card. They will give you the virtual pass after a few security questions. Did that a while back for our daughter to travel, after l named her my supp.

  • Triath5 says:

Can someone please explain what happens on Day 2 after a double-jabbed person arrives from an Amber country? Does someone call / physically show up at your residence demanding the test result? How is this enforced / validated? Does it last the 10 days?

With the Expert Medicals debacle I’m now looking at cheap alternatives, and the £20 Chester one is looking good but I’m not going to be making the trek out there. Need to know what the official line is…

    • Rob says:

Nothing happens. You need to buy a Day 0-2 (NOT Day 2) test and put the purchase ref on your Passenger Locator Form.

Whether you bother doing the test you bought is up to you. No-one checks.

      • Triath5 says:

        Thought so.

The only question I have is what’s the difference between Day 0-2 vs. Day 2? Looking at all these vendors I see them selling Day 2 & Day 8, Day 2, etc. but no Day 0-2?

        • Harry T says:

Day 2 tests can be taken anytime from the moment you arrive (day 0) until day 2. You can even get a test at the airport when you arrive.

        • Hak says:

No difference. Rob was saying it can be taken between arrival and day 2.

    • Harry T says:

Lololol nothing happens because it’s all a stupid game to fill the pockets of Tory donors running testing companies. You’re paying for a code for your PLF when you book your day 2 test. Unless you’ve been snorting Coke off half the population of South Africa and then lied about it, no one will be chasing you up.

    • TGLoyalty says:

But if you didn’t take it on purpose because you booked chester and intentionally didnt go you could be fined £1000 … if you’re one of the unlucky ones who get a random call

Do yourself a favour and spend the extra £43 on Randox.

    • Tracey says:

The official line is that you are legally obliged to take the test. Just do it. £40 from nationwide pathology, who do deliver. Post back via Royal Mail.

  • Craig says:

Can someone please remind me if there is a bonus for adding a supp to a BAPP anymore or if you have to wait to be targeted?

  • Chrisasaurus says:

Niche question for a Saturday evening – anyone know (BA CE accessible) lounge status at Alicante?

    • Richie says:

I heard the contract with the lounge provider has been cancelled.

    • Chrisasaurus says:

So – small update the (only) lounge is open albeit somewhat limited.

Sadly flight late and (presumably as a result) no food :-/
