The HfP chat thread – Saturday 4th September

We are running this daily chat thread on Head for Points during the coronavirus outbreak.

Historically, the daily ‘Bits’ articles were the de facto repository for random comments and questions.  With the news flow being lighter, we are running fewer ‘Bits’ articles.

The comments under this article are where you should post questions about travel and, indeed, anything else on your mind.  At this tricky time, and given that many of you are at home, we want the HfP community to have a place to chat.

Please only comment under the main articles on the site if your comment is directly related to the topic of the article.  This has long-term benefits as it keeps the commentary relevant for people who read those articles in the future.

Old chat threads are hidden from the HfP home page.  If you want to look for something in an old thread, click here.  This brings up all the articles in our ‘General’ category which includes the chat threads.

Morning everyone, Sweaty Betty has expired! Have a great weekend, I know I will.

  • Stephan says:

Looking to book parking at Standsted Airport. I realise this isn’t possibly the most frequented airport by HFP but wanted check if anyone had any suggestions on parking/discounts /apps? First time parking there and cheapest I got is £50 for the weekend. Cheers!

    • Lottie says:

The official car parks normally have decent cash back offers via the sites sometimes 25%. Usually the cheapest I can find.

    • Memesweeper says:

JustPark and taxi/train from Bishops Stortford, Stansted M., or Takely.

    • David says:

There’s free parking on Parsonage Lane. And various spots well away from people’s homes so not to bother. I then get bus into airport. I have left my
car for a long period of time.

  • James says:

BA cancelled the outbound leg of our BA Holiday to Maldives yesterday. We were due to fly out September 24. As there is one more review on September 16, would we be able to wait until then before we decide if we want to take the refund/rebook for a later date or if it goes amber, move onto an alternative Qatar flight on the same outbound date?

    • DZOO says:

Yes, you can also wait until after 24 Sep to refund/rebook if you wish

      • James says:

Thanks a lot for that! Great to know what I’m actually entitled to once they get in touch.

        • Blenz101 says:

Given this is a BA holiday you are entitled to a refund. There is no automatic right to be rerouted should you still wish to travel.

If you do pick a future date then it is likely the cost of your holiday will change as well.

      • roberto says:

However you may find you money back onto your card before then. I would advise you to call.

      • BJ says:

There was a comment the other day though about cancelled flights just appearing and struggles to get avios back. I noticed my previously cancelled flights eventually disappeared to. Therefore with the difficulties that are often being reported with BA CSA waiting until afterwards might be running the risk of a lot of hassle.

  • R says:

Thoughts on Courtyard Prague? Anyone stayed there?

    • BJ says:

Not stayed there myself but I know people who have and never heard any complaints. Always spoiled for choice in Prague but my go to on points is the ‘new’ Hilton as status recognition has been super for me and I lije a la carte breakfast options in the lounge. When paying I always stayed at one of tge Corinthia hotels as they can have some great package deals.

  • Jamie says:

Anyone know if virgin credit are now charging fees when using curve for HMRC?

  • Roger says:

Come on BJ it’s weekend now….
    You know the drift….

  • Roger says:

Can anyone please post link to Irish COVID app that can be used in EU country with NHS Vaccine barcodes.

I have a printed copy but if app works even better.
Tried both apple and google store it takes me to NORTHERN IRELAND one.

  • Jonathan says:

Is Amex likely to increase its value of MR points for purchases to 0.9p again in the near future?
