The HfP chat thread – Tuesday 31st August

We are running this daily chat thread on Head for Points during the coronavirus outbreak.

Historically, the daily ‘Bits’ articles were the de facto repository for random comments and questions.  With the news flow being lighter, we are running fewer ‘Bits’ articles.

The comments under this article are where you should post questions about travel and, indeed, anything else on your mind.  At this tricky time, and given that many of you are at home, we want the HfP community to have a place to chat.

Please only comment under the main articles on the site if your comment is directly related to the topic of the article.  This has long-term benefits as it keeps the commentary relevant for people who read those articles in the future.

Old chat threads are hidden from the HfP home page.  If you want to look for something in an old thread, click here.  This brings up all the articles in our ‘General’ category which includes the chat threads.

Received an email from PAW to inform me that my PAW account has been blocked. I reckon this is because of the recent hammering on the Morrison’s offer that I have done.

They are asking for some documentation which I am reluctant to share like pay slips, credit card statement, proof of ID and address. Has anyone dealt with them previously?

    • Char Char says:

Oh no, is your account new and did you use it for anything else?

    • KBuffett says:

Who is your corporate that is attached to the account?
And what figures are involved with Morrison’s?

    • stevenhp1987 says:

      Sounds like a KYC check.

If they need to pay out hundreds or thousands to you, this makes complete sense. They cannot simple hand such sums over without any checks!

      • Char Char says:

Yes incase of a made up name/address claiming all the money/gift cards

    • Andrew says:

Sounds like simple KYC. How much are you talking about?

Mine was locked a few years back. I’d booked my team’s Virgin Upper trip (paid for by big Pharma) to Los Angeles through it when there was a very generous 12% WOW offer. It triggered close to £5K.

Once I’d evidenced that I was a passenger in the group, and provided copy of the credit card statements etc, it all went through.

New Marriott promotion for the autumn.
Compared to Hilton’s autumn promotion this seems rather disappointing

Re. the Millennium Hotel Amex statement credit offer, has anyone found out yet if this works with their Spa’s, ie. the Chelsea Harbour property?

  • Josh says:

    Hi all,

To those who stayed at the 7pines Ibiza using points, how much would you say you spent on the whole trip still?

Looking at going for 6 nights!

    Thanks

    Amex Platinum retention Bonus
I’ve seen that people have commented about getting a retention bonus via chat. Is there a specific phrase to use on chat?, when I typed in that I was looking to cancel / downgrade it told me to call in.

I did get a retention bonus back in June last year, have others who did the same had success getting another this year?

    • Super Secret Stuff says:

I’ve always done it over the phone. However I tend to go with Cancellation or the other topic I am ringing about

    • TGLoyalty says:

Sounds like cancellations team only work 9-5 Monday to Friday on chat

Worth another go if it was outside these times.

    • VerdantBacon says:

Thanks for the reminder, just jumped on chat and got 35k retention.

      • Reney says:

what did you say? I got an offer to downgrade to gold.

        • VerdantBacon says:

I told them that I was considering cancelling and asked if there’s any incentive to keep the card. Went through the usual script of Plat benefits and ended with the retention offer

      • JDB says:

Better call again, they were offering 75k at tea time today.

        • VerdantBacon says:

Had you gotten a retention offer this year already? I got 50k in March which the agent did bring up before offering the 35k, didn’t think to push it

    • Can says:

I tried at around 10pm, no success. Try regular hours i guess

  • Andi says:

Does anyone have any news on the T5 Plaza Premium lounge re-opening?

  • Ian M says:

I have £41 of Tesco Clubcard vouchers expiring at midnight tonight. Other than Virgin Points, is there anything worth spending these vouchers on anymore? I don’t even want any Virgin points, but I would convert on to Hilton

  • DarrenS says:

Can anyone help please? Hilton Diamond gifting Gold status to someone else. What is the actual process?

I cannot find it on the website and I have tried connected via Chat several times, but just end up as #2 in the queue for ages.

    TIA

    • BJ says:

You should have received an email with a claim code after hitting Diamond. If you cannot find it in your inbox then I guess you need to contact CS and tell them you’re missing it.

    • John says:

      Give the Gift of Gold
If you stay 30 or more nights in 2021, you can gift Gold status to any other Hilton Honors member.
Gifting Gold status is easy. Once you reach 30 nights we email you a claim code to share with a friend or family member. Didn’t receive an email with a code to share? Just call 1-800-4HONORS with your name and Hilton Honors number to claim your gift of Gold status for another lucky traveler.

      Your Gift Keeps on Giving!
If you stay 60+ nights this year, your gift of Gold will be upgraded to Diamond status.
