  A great offer but I’m flummoxed as to why I can’t find a SINGLE restaurant in the 2nd largest city in the country Birmingham?!? Even though nearly EVERY Ivy Restaurant is included, the Birmingham Ivy is not and whilst we have more Michelin Star restaurants than any other Cory outside London, Amex couldn’t find any luxury restaurants willing to participate???

  Obviously have saved this to my card as I’m sure I’ll be able to use it elsewhere but WTF?

      Lots of good non chain restaurants on the list. Including Cut @ 45 and the grill @ Dorchester etc

          What counts as ‘independent’? Clare Smyth is on there. The nature of the beast is that any successful restauranteur in London is inundated with requests to open in hotels etc and ends up as a mini chain. Amex also has no real interest in negotiating contracts with 1,000 individual restaurants for a 3 month promotion.

          What do we think the kick back is for Amex from the restaurants? 20% of Plat / Cent spending over the period?

        I was replying to the original comment about luxury. I wasn’t looking find any. They are all linked to chains as far as I can see- no luxury aspect involved. (Reply to this comment you made which won’t let me reply)

          Ducasse and Darozze both have 3 Michelin stars, Le Gavroche has 2. I’d call that luxurious (and having eaten at 2 of those restaurants, I can confirm the stars are well deserved!).

    Very unlikely. Same was asked in the January £175 Waitrose offer and it was a cut of date for existing members before the offer was launched.

    No. The fact that these offers keep being doled out to the personal holders makes me increasingly angry that the biz holders are basically second class citizens. I might ring them up and say that if I don’t get access to this offer, I’m cancelling my biz plat. Hopeless.

  Thrilled with this – as it is £200 eat out for free.
  It might be London centric but don’t discount the Exmouth tab. Lympstone Manor ( who like to be seen as located in Lympstone not Exmouth) is on the list. Great location next to estuary – lived nearby until recently. Eaten here once – it is an event meal so a bit too formal for our liking – but wonderful food. With rooms at £400 plus a night you can always stay at the Premier Inn Exmouth on the seafront. Front facing rooms have the most amazing view.

    Rooms ate £400 plus at Lympstone Manor not Premier Inn 😂 although the PI prices did go a bit mad over the summer. !!

  Great timing, at the moment we have 2 cards as we were about the cancel one after referring player 2. Will be trying to get through the credit on that one asap.
  Any recommendations for which restaurants would be toddler/baby friendly on the London list? Been to a few of them in my pre kids days and they definitely weren’t.

    Curious to hear opinions on which are child/toddler friendly. It’s why I was disappointed not to see my local Ivy cafe on the list as I know we’d be fine there.

    I believe children are welcome in a number of the options at Sketch but not all areas. It’s probably our likeliest destination.

      We’ve booked our local Ivy cafe (blackheath) for this weekend and requested a high chair so can feedback on that. I spotted bluebird Chelsea has a kids menu so that sounds promising.
      Will also be trying to bribing family to take the toddler so that we can get to one of the nicer options, but thinking it’s good to have some backups if we can’t manage it.

      I think a kids menu is a good distinguisher, not least because I don’t think my 2 year old is going through be a fan of ceviche even if they let her in…

        We always have the option of going to an Ivy further a field but it seems a little pointless given there’s one within walking distance of us.

        Will have a proper look through the list when I have the time to identify the other casual options that provide kids menus.

      Done some additional research, here are some highlights:

      Bread Street Kitchen says “kids of all ages welcome” and has a children’s menu with the meal complementary if you are ordering an adult meal. So far others I’ve checked in the Gordon Ramsay group are the same except Lucky Cat.

      Skylon (At Festival Hall) also has a children’s menu, and I recall it being a relaxed informal(ish) place in the daytime.

      Paternoster Chop house (famous for being the backdrop for Channel 4’s first dates) has a kid’s menu but from my own experience I would say avoid weekday evenings as it’s full of city post work drinks. Of course WFH may have reduced this…

          Bread Street would be great at weekends. Midweek I would suggest you’d find it full of bankers, albeit the location next to St Paul’s always brings in some tourists.

      I’ve been with my twins at Pollen street Social (they didnt have high chair but they were all lovely with them), Hakkasan, Hawksmoor air street, Duck and Waffle, Aqua Shard, the Ivy St John’s wood. By memory they all had high chairs and staff was always super nice. We kept them quiet of course! When we can we leave the kids at home, but some time is really no possible and we enjoyed lovely meal also with them.

        Interesting, thanks for this. Duck & Waffle I discounted based on a previous visit as it struck me as not kid friendly (the heronbank tower one, the piccadilly circus one seems more okay but not on the list I see…)
        We can definitely manage at least a trip without the toddler – either with family or a day she’s at nursery. But the baby is due to arrive any day now and if she’s anything like her older sibling I won’t be able to leave her for a few months.
        As a small baby it’s easier to keep them under control if they’re just feeding or sleeping but need to wait & see what their temperament is like. Oldest was so easy going so fingers crossed. Don’t want to go somewhere and spend the entire pricey meal taking turns to eat vs pacing in the hallway.

    The Wolsely and the Delauney are both child friendly. I’ve been to the Delauney with my nieces before, and they loved it.

  Still can’t quite believe when i phoned up Amex yesterday morning to cancel my Platinum card that I’ve had for three years they didn’t tell me about this! I said Iw as keen to stay but was struggling justifying the cost to my wife. A spend £200 get £200 credit would definitely have given me some ammunition!

      No, nothing. I had some points back in February so wasn’t necessarily expecting any more. Just disappointed they hadn’t told me about this upcoming deal as it would prob have persuaded me to keep it. Got £70 fee refunded and means I don’t have to pay £575 next month but I prob would have been able to persuade my wife why we should keep it.

          Yeah @TGloyalty, that’s what I’m telling myself. I have no overseas holidays planned until a very optimistic trip to Thailand at Xmas, other than that nowt till spring so might just reapply in a few months time
