We are running this daily chat thread on Head for Points during the coronavirus outbreak.

Historically, the daily ‘Bits’ articles were the de facto repository for random comments and questions.  With the news flow being lighter, we are running fewer ‘Bits’ articles.

The comments under this article are where you should post questions about travel and, indeed, anything else on your mind.  At this tricky time, and given that many of you are at home, we want the HfP community to have a place to chat.

Please only comment under the main articles on the site if your comment is directly related to the topic of the article.  This has long-term benefits as it keeps the commentary relevant for people who read those articles in the future.

Old chat threads are hidden from the HfP home page.  If you want to look for something in an old thread, click here.  This brings up all the articles in our ‘General’ category which includes the chat threads.

Bangkok Airways have had a data breach. Data exposed seems to include name, address, phone number, e-mail address, ‘partial’ credit card details and – worst of all – special meal preferences. What if they hack my account and change my ‘super spicy’ meal selection to ‘bland’? I can’t eat ‘bland’! 🙁

    • BJ says:

I’m sure somebody on board will have some spicy jam and chicken sauce, just shout nicely! Oddly enough, I’ve never flew Bangkok Airways in all my trips to Thailand, even when we went to Samui we took the car.

    • David says:

Oh no someone might find out – I don’t like green sponge cakes , glasses one third full of orange juice and them losing my luggage on the Bkk to Samui flight.

  • JDB says:

You can’t book different classes on the same flight on one PNR. If one traveller has BA status, you can ask by telephone for them to link the bookings so you can reserve seats in advance. In respect of moving seats inflight, if you ask nicely, shouldn’t be a problem but don’t keep swapping or indeed ‘hot seat’ and expect 4x first meals. I have done this once when my son was in Club and crew were fine.

    • ChrisC says:

You can’t use Gold status to reserve seats for passengers flying in another cabin.

      • JDB says:

Apologies, I didn’t know that was the case. I have done it once, but that was a couple of years ago and was probably a gesture of goodwill, rather than officially allowed. BA staff don’t seem to have much leeway to make generous gestures these days.

    • BJ says:

Seating depends on both the airline policy and the crew on the day. All sorts is possible. I’ve had crews insist pax sit in allocated seats throughout, others that let them move around except they needed to be in allocated seat at takeoff and landing, and others who couldn’t care less if pax moved.

Staying at The Trafalgar St James in London tonight. Currently sat in the Rooftop bar. This is a fantastic hotel, the best UK Hilton I have stayed in, just a few hundred yards from Nelson’s Column. Even the basic rooms are of a very high standard. Looking forward to our free breakfast!!

    • Blair says:

Any Honors elite treatment worth mentioning? I am there next week, HH Diamond

      • Tom H says:

I got nothing as diamond except bf, but second above, very nice hotel

      • Harrier25 says:

Not for me as I’m only Gold anyway and the hotel is full. You will be very impressed though. The standard rooms are very spacious and would be a good upgrade at a standard Hilton. Plenty of free water and bottles of coke in fridge. All the bathroom accessories are Molton Brown. There’s a Nespresso coffee machine with plenty of pods. They even knocked on the door at 6.20pm offering us fresh towels, more water, tea bags etc.

        • The Savage Squirrel says:

Alas I will never get a standard room redemption again, now everyone knows :D.

    • Andy D says:

Tell everyone that this is the best so that I have less competition for upgrades at the superior B*nks*de 🙂

  • Nelson says:

Anyone knows how many clubcard vouchers can I possibly use doing one hotels.com booking?

    • Peter K says:

The answer is in the page brought up as the top search result in Google. 🙂

      • Jimmy says:

So cant you just do consequential bookings and use as many vouchers as you like>?

  • Slon says:

Anyone can share a referral code for Bolt please?

  • soundnomad says:

Just checked the payments for the Double Avios part pay shuffle from last weekend. It would seem I have been overcharged and the payments make no sense in ralation to the 3 bookings i made and subsequently cancelled. Unless i have missed something like a £1.20 per person cancelation fee, but been charged £22.80 more than I should have been. Anyone else experienced this. Maybe worth double checking.

    • John says:

Check that you actually redeemed the avios and didn’t accidentally pay for the flight

I almost paid £30 instead of 30p but at the final page I noticed that it somehow removed the avios part pay so I had to start over on that booking

      • soundnomad says:

Thankjs for the suggestion John .. Def part paid – as my avios have all been taken. Its not a huge amount but I didnt have a huge amount of avios so I guess the extra 22.80 = 3 x 7.60 (£7.60 being the fees on the JER-LHR route.) isn’t the end of the world, however if this is a systemic bug, those that traded in hundreds of thousands of Avios or used different routes with higher fees might be down substantially more.

The payments to BA also appeard as a mixture of amounts that had no baring on numbers I booked. I did three bookings, 8 pax, 6 pax and 5 pax. and I have a total of 9 separate transactions on my bank account for various amounts from two different BA merchant accounts. Strange but given how BA seems to have mashed together three websites and who knows what is going on in the backend – I think I got off lightly. 🙂

        • Louie says:

Can you explain a bit more as I don’t really follow. What did you book and what did you get back as e-vouchers?

          • soundnomad says:

Hi Louie – I got £22.80 less than I paid, back in vouchers. I am not asking for help just pointing out that there was a glitch on my transactions so people who potentially paid a lot more in taxes and fees to get their redemptions etc are aware; as it may be £100s in some cases if this was a systemic issue. Just need to double check the transactions on whatever payment was used to check that the total amount matches the total actually paid for the cash portion of the Cash/Avios booking.

  • Amy says:

Can anyone explain to me what the Morrisons gift voucher deal is? I keep seeing mentions pop up in comments but couldn’t find any details when I searched for it.

    • Sloth says:

Getting locked in that security cupboard last week must have affected your memory then Amy…

  • mark2 says:

Many Amex cards have an offer for 7 or 10% statement credit at Morrison’s.
This can be used to buy gift cards for other retailers or Morrison’s own gift card for petrol or grocery.
You may also have an offer on Shops Away to get 6-10 Virgin Miles as well.
