Is British Airways extending the period in which you can get status with fewer tier points?

  Years ago the TP requirement for BAEC members in mainland europe was different to those in the UK. When they announced the change to make them the same BA said it would be introduced in two years time. Two years later my TP target was still the old EU amount and it took them nine months into my membership year to finally change my account to show the correct target.
  So if they don’t officially announce the TP target extension then don’t be surprised if they suddenly correct it well into your membership year.

  It’s interesting that you’ve used a picture of Executive Club cards for this article as there’s a story in itself about that. BA has stopped issuing them and decided to go all virtual. I’m not sure how you can have a virtual bag tag though, but they’ve ditched those too. It’s not what EC members want at all.

    All items are still available to order online from your Exec club area – I ordered some new gold tags last week and arrived yesterday. They are playing the environment card and not sending out cards and tags unless requested by members.

      Only Golds can order physical tags/cards now.

    Of all the changes BA make the loss of a plastic card and a couple of bag tags doesn’t even register.

  What BA need yo do is to extend the status for the other half of the members who are currently due to expire in early 2022. Seems doubly unfair if those with a year end in the latter half of the year get a reduced TP target and an extension of the current status to the end of 2022. And with the US and Asia still off limits to most members, maintaining status is near impossible.

    The first half were extended 9th March. So all being equal I wouldn’t expect anything until 9th September. I think they’ll extend but I’m very so what about it.

  I’d posted this earlier in last week’s “How should you time promotion to British Airways Silver status to maximise your benefits?” article, but had no replies…

  Keen on advice for (an expanding) family:

  My wife’s BAEC (Gold) year-end date is 8 Aug ’22. Our son was born Apr ’21, but still not added to BAEC Household Account (currently just on Friends & Family, i.e. no BAEC Membership Number yet)

  Should my wife try to fly before Jun ’22 (to benefit from the lower TP thresholds) and then apply for her BAEC account to be frozen for maternity from Aug ’22? Or wait until Aug ’22 for heavy travel and freeze the account once travel complete?

  Also, is it fine to apply for the maternity freeze when the baby’s over a year old? Nothing seems to contradict that in the Ts&Cs

    I think she should apply for the 1 year maternity extension benefit now. That would automatically extended her status anyway. Not sure why she would wait?

  Morning all. What are the restrictions on going to Northern Ireland for the weekend regarding being double vaccinated/ testing etc if I were to fly from London? I’m not up to date with the rules at all so any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

    Shouldn’t be any rules that apply, as it is a domestic flight. No different from going from London to Glasgow!

  Are BA going to further extend current status expiry dates? I was awarded Gold in first few months of lock-down, and have only flown once since! (And could not even use BA for that one). My Gold status, while extended, stills runs out next Spring so zero chance of me retaining that…I won’t have got any benefits from it despite having it for 2 years.

    +1 I’m Silver. Renewed it on 4 Feb 2020 on a flight back from Rome just before 8 Feb TP year end. I pay for all my flights, no employer helping out. That was the last time I flew anywhere and am stuck because my OH is waiting for a major operation that keeps being rescheduled due to Covid which then requires 3 months of no flying so prospect of renewing are zero.

      How surprising to renew status 4Feb instead of 9Feb. Did I read that correctly AJA?

      I hope your OH gets the treatment needed soon. Like Rob I unfortunately think the delays due to Covid blocking beds and closing facities and stopping treatment being delivered are going to cause even more issues than Covid over the next few years.

        @LL What I meant was I earned the TP on a flight on 4 Feb which tipped me over the 600TP necessary to renew Silver a mere 4 days before my TP year end.

        I do hope the operation doesn’t get cancelled / postponed again but given the rise in covid cases my OH is bracing for that to happen.

        @ Doug I might have to do a solo holiday TP run to regain status if BA don’t extend status. 🤔
