Is British Airways extending the period in which you can get status with fewer tier points?

Back in June 2020, British Airways announced that it was cutting the tier points required to earn or renew British Airways status. This was hardly surprising given the reduction in flying.
Tier point requirements were cut by 25%.
This means that British Airways Bronze status would require 225 tier points (was 300 points), Silver status would require 450 tier points (was 600 tier points) and Gold status would require 1,125 tier points (was 1,500).

If you qualify by segments, Bronze would require 18 one-way cash flights and Silver would require 37.
So far, so ‘old news’. However, the reduced tier point thresholds were meant to apply to all membership years which expired up to, and including, 8th July 2022.
It is now late August. 1/12th of our readers have a tier point year which ends on 8th August.
If you have an 8th August year end, take a look online at your targets for the year ending 8th August 2022. The 25% discount still shows, even though it was not meant to be available for anyone with a year end after 8th July 2022.
Whilst there has not been an official announcement from British Airways Executive Club, this means either:
- BA has messed up its IT (!) or
- it has decided to extend the 25% tier point reduction beyond 8th July 2022
We’ll let you know when we find out which option is correct.
