Is British Airways extending the period in which you can get status with fewer tier points?

  My tier point year ends 8th March 22, currently no status held.
  I am looking at a trip to Hawaii 10th -22nd March. To make use of double tier points . Booking with BA holidays flying business Lhr to Seattle with BA and Seattle to Honolulu with Alaskan Airways, it looks like I will receive 1120 tier points and also have access to the First wing and Concorde lounge, I will receive silver status and only 5 points short of Gold, so a short flight will take me to Gold which I will have for the remainder of the year and the next so until April 2024? Dropping down to Silver in April 25 if I do not collect enough tier points to stay gold, before I book does that look correct

    Yes assuming the reduced TP requirements still apply to you after 8 Mar 2022. My TP year ends 8 Feb 2022 and the reduced TP targets are supposed to expire for me by then returning to the old 300, 600, 1500 thresholds but the article seems to say the BA is extending that.

    And assumes that you book the entire trip as a BA Holidays booking and the Alaska Airways flights are on BA flight numbers ie BA code share.

    You only get CCR if flying BA First.

    CCR isn’t a Gold benefit.

      There is an offer on currently if you spend £2,500 with BA holidays and fly club world you get access to First wing and CCR

    If you can get BA holidays to price it, something like LHR-HEL-NYC-SFO return I’d currently pricing as £1650 and would yield 720TP x 2 = 1440 TP if booked as holiday.

    Pretty sure you could specify car hire for Hawaii even though flights go to SFO,

    Obviously you need a further flight booked separately from SFO to hawaii

  I have another take on the TP situation.

  It might be that for Aug ‘22 and beyond members that the reduced thresholds aloe them to qualify as long aa they hit them before the reduced deadline but when it comes to rolling over to the next EC year they’ll need the old TP’s.

      You’d think so but the terms seem to read like that to me. Specifically….

      “ If you are eligible for a Tier upgrade under the reduced Tier Point or eligible flight requirement, there is no need to contact us. This will be processed automatically once the required number of Tier Points or flights have been credited to your account.

      If you are eligible to renew your Tier under the reduced Tier Point or eligible flight requirement, there is no need to contact us. This will be processed automatically once your Tier Point collection year ends and you will receive an email from the Executive Club team to confirm this”

      I read that as you will qualify for reduced TP status prior to July 22 but if your year end is after July 22 your renewal will be subject to old rates.

      Of course it’s entirely possible that it could work entirely differently

  I was reading the FAQs last night where I thought I read the reduced tier point target was open to all and closed 30th June 2022, regardless of membership year ends

    It is not clear but BA did a Q&A for us when this launched and did not say it worked this way.

    Using 30th and not 8th does mean it is possible though.

        That is definitely a recent addition and is a bit clearer I admit – but telling people they need 450 (and letting them book) before changing the target on 1st July would be a PR mess.

  I’m going to go for a quick TP run. Current situation;
  Year finishes Feb 9
  Zero tier points
  Looks like it’s dead easy to get Silver with minimum effort in one foul swoop or have I missed a trick.. obviously hoping for 2 years silver. I’d be happy to move my nearly 2million Avios over to Iberia, close down and start with a new account if that’s more sensible..thoughts?

    Are you happy with the Feb to Feb qualifying dates, if not then reopen your account, but I’d be a bit wary of messing around when 2 million avios are at stake

  To be fair, I have done absurdly well from the extensions and tier point reductions. I qualified for Gold on the basis of unusually heavy transatlantic work travel in late 2018, very early into my BA Silver year, and seem to have held it despite minimal long hauls (but lots of short haul economy hops) since. If the reduced points are extended, there’s a chance that I’ll be enjoying the First Wing a couple of times a month into 2022 if I do a couple of mid-haul Club Europe holidays, which I consider absurdly generous. Appreciate I may have just got lucky with timings, but given the amount of moaning about BA, I can say that they’ve certainly delivered for me, and are certainly my first choice (where they fit with work travel rules).

  I just contacted British Airways and they confirmed that if you reach the 25% reduced levels by June 2022, you will reach reach the level (i.e. 1125 TP by June 2022 and you will be Gold). They confirmed that this is irrespective of when your tier year ends (mine ends in August 2022). So it would seem you have all of April to meet the “by June 2022” qualification. My account is also still showing the reduced tier levels.
