We are running this daily chat thread on Head for Points during the coronavirus outbreak.

Historically, the daily ‘Bits’ articles were the de facto repository for random comments and questions.  With the news flow being lighter, we are running fewer ‘Bits’ articles.

The comments under this article are where you should post questions about travel and, indeed, anything else on your mind.  At this tricky time, and given that many of you are at home, we want the HfP community to have a place to chat.

Please only comment under the main articles on the site if your comment is directly related to the topic of the article.  This has long-term benefits as it keeps the commentary relevant for people who read those articles in the future.

Old chat threads are hidden from the HfP home page.  If you want to look for something in an old thread, click here.  This brings up all the articles in our ‘General’ category which includes the chat threads.

Does anyone know will I be able to use my IHG £50 off £200 offer for bookings into the future, offer expires in 4 days!

    • VerdantBacon says:

Book a stay in the future and then call the hotel and ask them to charge your card. Important to call the hotel and not reservations as I believe reservations will take you to a central system and their charge wont go through as the correct merchant ID needed by Amex to give you your credit

    • Tom says:

Are you sure it expires in 4 days? Mine expires 30/09…

    • Rob says:

Only if you book an Advanced Purchase rate AND the hotel charges you now (you may need to chase to get this done).

I thought the £350 luxury offer ended now? My £50 on £200 sends 30/9.

    Expert Medicals site working

    • Sam G says:

Cheers ! Managed to order a couple

      • Simon says:

@Sam G Your suggestion that Porto flights on Thursday and Saturdays may be culled has proved bang on….. Many thanks for a top tip…… MMB is letting me take a refund to original payment method, even though I made the booking with an evoucher….

Anyone know if there is any risk in claiming this refund on to my Amex card online, as opposed to calling up ?

        Thanks

        • Asim says:

Tried just now. Got 1 but then started failing again!

          • Chrisasaurus says:

Yep got two done then while was trying to figure out how to order one for a 7 year old, it stopped again.

On which note I assume it’s still the double vaccinated Amber test even though they are obviously not vaccinated?

  • @mkcol says:

Given Anna’s response I think I’ll nag IHG as I also didn’t get the 25000 points for hitting either reduced or normal Spire Elite target several months ago & my new year just started this week so I’d hate them to forget about it as it’s a new year.

  • George says:

Has anyone got experience of using the Co Op pharmacy return to the UK tests (£25)?

  • Gary says:

Expert Medical day 2 PCR. Ordered 15 July, arrived UK 18 Jul, nothing received , email 21 Jul (day 3) to ask for refund & not to send (DPD didn’t have the package except a ref no created). No reply. Then DPd delivered 24 July – and tracking showed was dispatched 22 Jul – one day after email asking not to send (maybe so to avoid refund). Curious if there is any recourse? E.g. Charge back? Package remains unopened.

    • Gary says:

As done it w alternative provider

    • Lady London says:

Lots of systems are programmef to mark as despatched as soon as the label prints. So not stuck on the package, possibly your items not even picked off the shelf yet, and depending on time of day, although label printed on the printer so marked ad despatched, depending on courier pickup time could miss being picked up the day of so-called “despatvh” completely.

As you tried to contact them and they were nomresponsive return it for a refund (or better, reject delivery) and stick to your guns. If you were forced to make alternative provision due to their delays this is also good to mentiom.

Mention you will chargeback to ypur card to them if not refunded promptly (this gets them black marks with the card networks and can worsen their terms) then do so.

Time is clearly of the essenve with these product purchases so that helps too.

Let us know how it turns out

  • Jonathan says:

Jet2 have changed our departure flight to a different airport that’s 90 mins away, are we legally entitled to a refund ?

    • Rob says:

Yes, if it isn’t technically the same city (eg Heathrow and Gatwick)

      • Jonathan says:

They changed the flight from Paphos to Larnica in Cyprus but no option of a refund

        • Sam G says:

Doubt it’s the same flight number. Is this flight only? Then crystal clear – they have to refund you. Package holiday is different

    • HBommie says:

They’ve been messing with flights and doubling up departures to a number of destinations, e.g EDI to Palma via NCL and vice versa to fill up the aircraft. Also coaching pax from UK arrivals e.g. landing in East Midlands and a bus ride of 3hrs to another airport.

Makes business sense but not for me thanks.

      • Sam G says:

Most of their passengers are package holiday and don’t have any come back on this as it doesn’t count as a significant change. But I agree, being London based I’d be careful of picking them in the future but if you are in the regions you don’t have much choice anyway to a lot of their destinations.

  • Harrier25 says:

I’m staying at the Trafalgar St James Curio Collection by Hilton tomorrow night. Is it as impressive as it looks?

    • TGLoyalty says:

It’s a nice hotel. Hope you get good weather and can check out the rooftop bar

      • Harrier25 says:

Cheers TG. Looking forward to it. The views from the rooftop bar look spectacular.

      • Tom H says:

It’s really nice roof top bar was lovely. Minimal benefits as diamond (except breakfast)

        • Harrier25 says:

I’m Gold, so only expecting breakfast as a benefit anyway. Thanks Tom.

    • The Savage Squirrel says:

I really like it; service has been good [disclaimer: pre-Covid], base rooms are excellent (or they dish out upgrades every time – not really sure) and the location is almost ridiculous in its brilliance. If I’m meeting friends.family and treating them to a points-night in London I use TSJ as it gives them a little wow factor – more so than the nice-but-boring Conrad. Unfortunately base rooms are not available for my next London stay and unless that changes I’m slumming it in the Waldorf. 🙁

  • Tarmohamed says:

35k MR point offered as retention on the platinum card opened in May 2021. Via live chat. Ask for cancellations.

    • Harry T says:

Thanks for the data point. Chat used to ask you to call, so this is a positive development. What did you say to the cancellations team?

      • RobL says:

I just got a decent retention bonus for plat. Said I was struggling to justify the fee as I wasnt travelling at the moment.

      • Tarmohamed says:

Chat wanted me to call, I told them that I’d like to speak to the cancellations chat team and know such team does exist and they put me through virtually. Told them I can’t justify the fee
