We are running this daily chat thread on Head for Points during the coronavirus outbreak.

Historically, the daily ‘Bits’ articles were the de facto repository for random comments and questions.  With the news flow being lighter, we are running fewer ‘Bits’ articles.

The comments under this article are where you should post questions about travel and, indeed, anything else on your mind.  At this tricky time, and given that many of you are at home, we want the HfP community to have a place to chat.

Please only comment under the main articles on the site if your comment is directly related to the topic of the article.  This has long-term benefits as it keeps the commentary relevant for people who read those articles in the future.

Old chat threads are hidden from the HfP home page.  If you want to look for something in an old thread, click here.  This brings up all the articles in our ‘General’ category which includes the chat threads.

When I priced an avios reward flight for 1 person the tax was £2.00, when I
changed it for 2 travelling with a 241 voucher, the tax changed to £200.00,
    would that be correct?
    Thanks

    • Andrew says:

Check the “more pricing options” – that will show the correct prices with the standard Avios rate and taxes/charges rather than the higher Avios rate and virtually nil taxes/charges.

      • FatherOfFour says:

When using a 241 it defaults to the standard taxes / charges rate and you don’t get the chance to use more Avios to offset TFCs.

Anyone managed to do payments to NS&I recently? The payment is accepted from my issuing cards (Tried 2 cards) but refused by NS&I “Your debit card transaction was declined.”
Reverted transaction immediately with one card, pending on the other one

    • StevieKicks says:

Check that your billing address is consistent, I had the same issue with Curve after moving house and forgetting to update with Curve

      • Ikaz says:

Ahh, amazing, NS&I was my old address, transaction now went through, thanks!

  • vol says:

Just got an email from Amex saying they’re giving 50 MR points for £1, first 10k to save offer. It’s a small gift, but a gift nonetheless.

Hoping for some rebooking advice. 8th to 15th Sept Man to Miami return cancelled. Outbound LHR to Miami is the flight that has been cancelled and I d like to rebook mid Aug 2022 which is now allowed. Do I have to let Ba know before outbound date as eg. MAN to LHR still showing on booking, or can I wait until my return date is T-355 or even later with BA s phone issues. Just thinking if under 300 miles can I change destination to Orlando or even open jaw without issue? Thanks

    • ChrisC says:

The issue is that whilst the long haul has been cancelled the conencting short hail hasn’t and simply not flying that could lead to you being recorded as a no show.

Personally I’d use the chat function and get the agent to add a note to the PNR that you’ll be calling at a future date to rebook the entire trip for next year.

Then save the chat as your evidence that you contacted them,

I think you should be OK using the 300 mile rule.

Quick question on insurance & vouchers:
    – Is a flight or holiday booked exclusively using vouchers covered by Amex Platinum travel insurance?
    – If not, is there an easy way to pay £10 with my credit card?

  • Tim P says:

BA Avios booking to BOS next week (BA0215) but obviously restricted entry and therefore unable to go. Booked in January with a 2-for-1. Take it that if we don’t want to take a voucher then need to take the £70 hit on cancellation charge? Not bothered by the loss of the voucher as we have a small supply now! Any guidance much appreciated.

    • ChrisC says:

Yes if you cancel then you’d have to pay the admin fee.

      • Tim P says:

Thanks ChrisC. Just a shame when unable to travel due to gov restrictions. Cash element is so large, just don’t want to place it in a FTV and risk losing it

  • BuildBackBetter says:

Anyone able to confirm Apple store gift cards work for Amex £50 back offer?

    • Andrew says:

      Yes. Remember online only though.

    • Will A says:

Yep, worked for me and others. £500 gift card, got £50 back on the amex offer 🙂 didn’t get an instant email confirmation though.

    • Alex says:

Just be careful to buy the Apple Store GC and not the AppStore one…

  • John says:

Just wondering how last weekend’s part pay with avios offer (and the ensuing queue of cancellations/refunds) might have affected reward seat availability? Do they come from the same buckets? I noticed CE reward seats on DBV-LHR evaporated even though expert flyer shows v little activity on the seat map…

    • John says:

Ppwa tickets are revenue buckets, not redemption. But if a flight is filled up with revenue bookings then it follows that redemption availability may also decrease. However, if the bookings were vouchered quickly, I would have thought revenue and thus redemption availability would return too.

      • Andrew says:

And if we cancelled our Avios seats in favour of this far better deal, then availability will be up.

        • ChrisC says:

No guarantee that if you cancel a reward flight that it will get put back into the pool for someone else to pick up.
