The HfP chat thread – Thursday 26th August

We are running this daily chat thread on Head for Points during the coronavirus outbreak.

Historically, the daily ‘Bits’ articles were the de facto repository for random comments and questions.  With the news flow being lighter, we are running fewer ‘Bits’ articles.

The comments under this article are where you should post questions about travel and, indeed, anything else on your mind.  At this tricky time, and given that many of you are at home, we want the HfP community to have a place to chat.

Please only comment under the main articles on the site if your comment is directly related to the topic of the article.  This has long-term benefits as it keeps the commentary relevant for people who read those articles in the future.

Old chat threads are hidden from the HfP home page.  If you want to look for something in an old thread, click here.  This brings up all the articles in our ‘General’ category which includes the chat threads.

BA book with confidence – not really been keeping up with comments but need to get my head round it now I have the eVouchers from the offer the other day.

How long can you leave it before cancelling a flight? For example you try to check in at the airport and don’t have the right test or documents for example are you able to cancel the flight at that point and get a eVoucher back?

Also, can you cancel the return part of a journey (or get the date moved, subject to fare difference) if you have already flown the first leg? Or would this only be applicable if the county changed colour on the list?

  • trader363 says:

On the Shops Away portal, I get this on the Morrisons In Store page: This offer is not currently active for you.

Does anyone else get that? I did do a lot of gc purchases last November but nearly all went through and was fine

  • trader363 says:

Just got my first creative. Will be testing ernie via bendy backed with the creative ones.

Any way to pay off my barc mortgage each month manually without fees? Also lookin to give money to che without fees.

I will be testing them all my self but any advice would be much appreciated . . . no matter how cryptic!

    • Sean says:

try to use creative card somewhere with pin before adding to bendy – as i found only this allowed me to add the card.

      • Yorkie Aid says:

+1 Also ramp things up slowly. Topping up Che is a pain because it incurs interest if not immediately repaid.

        • trader363 says:

          Thanks both, will do

        • Reney says:

immediate repayment may cause it to go into credit which someone for shut down for. going to have to live with some interest costs

    • Guernsey Globetrotter says:

Che works with Solihull without any need for Bendy.
Maybe ask Barclays if you can settle your mortgage via self-initiated bank transfer (as opposed to S/O or DD) and if so you could do via Che?
Can’t help on Bendy as they won’t issue to Guernsey 🙁

      • trader363 says:

You can actually cancel your DD and opt to pay off manually via debit card :). Have been doing this for a while using Che until beardy started charging me fees for transactions to Che!

        • KBuffett says:

Wow, this is so risky if you ask me. If/when it gets flagged by their launderette department, I genuinely don’t think you will be able to explain it to their satisfaction.

          • trader363 says:

I didn’t think there was any real risk. If queried, I would be honest and explain that I use Che as my main card and want to pay it off using Che . . .

          • Youllnever says:

Agree with KBuffett – not sure I would risk this with mortgages.

    • SteveJ says:

Put some standard transactions on Bendy and Solihull too, else you’ll flag as only doing MS and get a slap on the wrist. More likely from Bendy. Same story with Che, put the odd standard transaction on there too.

      • trader363 says:

Can you pay off beardy using creatives?

        • Reney says:

I feel like 🧔 has not accepted curve for a while.

          • Travel Strong says:

Coincidentally just tested and curve is accepted, goes through on mine but then gets blocked b/c I am curve blue with fronted turned OFF. So may go through if curve metal, but have not tested whether underlying card accepts.

  • High Grade says:

Morning HfPers, Any tips for the best lounge at Barcelona Airport (T1). I have HSBC WE, Amex Bus Plat and we are flying BA Club Europe, so hoping we have a few options.

  • Jim says:

Hi all, p@w in store purchase, anyone had any experience on how long it takes to post as pending/confirmed?

    • Reney says:

+1 following. Someone said they managed triple stack re morrison. Did my transaction on Sunday and nothing yet. Airtime has been slower recently, they and pAW then to post similar time for me previously.

  • NC says:

Has anyone successfully managed to change dates at Six Senses Douro Valley for an intern-rate award booking in the top room category? If so did you do this via the hotel or by calling IHG?

    • meta says:

Doubt you’ll be able to change dates. The suite is fully booked until the end of schedule and the hotel in general is at full capacity non-stop according to staff. Worth a try though, but don’t have high hopes. I’d contact the hotel first.

    • Rob says:

      They wouldn’t change ours.

  • Alex says:

AMEX BA cards relaunch next week, probably with a “bang” bonus. Any guesses?

    • Reney says:

too much to hope it lasts till April 2022 🤣 when my 2 year is up.

    • Craig says:

      Decided to twist and wait.

    • J says:

I’m literally about to press submit on my sisters BA Premium application. Is it worth waiting? Will the bonus be better than the 26k on offer? @Rob any hints would be great 😀

      • Rob says:

It’s a sunny day, I wouldn’t be wasting time on credit card applications.

      • Lady London says:

Wayne P STOP! Move away from the keyboard *now* !!!

What makes anyone think Amex would launch any tasty offer in August? Of course they’ll wait till they think their customer base is back from holiday ie sometime September. I’d wait till end September and then probably wait some more if necessary – autumn is prime time for card offers so as to catch Christmas spend.

  • Bob S says:

Has anyone else had any delays in receiving the double tier points BA are offering on BA Holidays? We went to Malta a few weeks back with a BA Holiday, arriving back on 22 July but we are still waiting for the double tier points to come through when the T+Cs say that we should get the double tier points within a month of the return flight (and I’m sure we have met all the other conditions of the offer – away 5+ nights, 2+ travellers, etc)

    • roberto says:

Not had mine. Raised a “complaint” online. Don’t need TP this year but will add to my lifetime tally.

    • WaynedP says:

Oh dear, I hope this isn’t going to be another one of those time and effort wasting occasions when I need to submit the screenshot I have of the T&Cs to some uninformed frontline CSA when I really shouldn’t have to.

Thanks for the heads-up though – hope it gets sorted for you soon, and the benefit trickles down to the rest of us without unnecessary hassle.
