The HfP chat thread – Thursday 26th August

We are running this daily chat thread on Head for Points during the coronavirus outbreak.

Historically, the daily ‘Bits’ articles were the de facto repository for random comments and questions.  With the news flow being lighter, we are running fewer ‘Bits’ articles.

The comments under this article are where you should post questions about travel and, indeed, anything else on your mind.  At this tricky time, and given that many of you are at home, we want the HfP community to have a place to chat.

Please only comment under the main articles on the site if your comment is directly related to the topic of the article.  This has long-term benefits as it keeps the commentary relevant for people who read those articles in the future.

Old chat threads are hidden from the HfP home page.  If you want to look for something in an old thread, click here.  This brings up all the articles in our ‘General’ category which includes the chat threads.

Few people who upgraded BA cards recently have said they got the free card version. I think Amex creates a list a few weeks in advance.

    • BJ says:

Following my comment on same the other day, and your comment re. Amex not wanting to annoy … I got my partner to call amex. They fixed it for him with a little added extra so thanks for that. Two previous efforts to resolve via chat failed, calling is definitely better.

  • Red Flyer says:

Sticking to UK hold this year and have 2 weeks in a Motorhome booked for mid-Sept. Any recommendations for an insurance excess cover provider as I know usual policies for car hire don’t cover Motorhomes.

  • xcalx says:

I have searched but with no luck.

I have the Amex BAP. I upgraded just before the September changes announcement. My year end spend date is September 7th (carried over from the free BA card) to get the voucher. Will my spend be reset to £0 with another voucher issued if the £10k spend is achieved prior to the BAP card fee renewal date next July.

    Thanks.

Just received an email from Creation:
No Foreign Exchange Fees from 30 August until 28 September 2021 on the IHG card

    • John says:

Same, I have the white card.

    • Reney says:

mentioned several times earlier today. I did not get the email on my white card 🥺

      • Harrier25 says:

I had an email for both white & black cards. Are you opted out of marketing emails from Creation?

        • Reney says:

just checked, indeed I was! The question is would the offer apply if I never got the email?

          • Harrier25 says:

I don’t think its targeted, looks like it applies to every card holder.

  • John says:

Not that I can see on desktop

  • LS says:

Airline shares seem to have suddenly shot up. Is this a good sign for the red/amber/green list update due later?

    • John says:

It may be people buying in anticipation that the update will be positive, but if it isn’t then the prices will drop again

  • AJA says:

My comment got stuck in moderation (I think it was a taboo word to do with getting m m m money back!) I am not sure but I think you don’t need to do anything other than pay the retailer with the Barclaycard you registered. I see I have 10% at both Morrisons and Boots.

Rob/Rhys please delete my comment stuck in moderation

    • KBuffett says:

Can you confirm that you have Boots and Morrison’s offers on your Barclaycard?

      • AJA says:

@ KBuffett Yes on my Barclaycard

      • AJA says:

Also got an email from Barclaycard earlier this afternoon listing them along with 10% at Costa Coffee and 7% at WHSmith and 10% on my first spend at Selfridges of £100+

  • Denis says:

FTV/e-voucher question please: I’ve just made a booking using old FTV with CV, Avios, cash etc wrapped up in it and had to pay the difference in price (£400) because the BA agent told me I was not allowed to redeem multiple vouchers. Is that true? Thank you.

    • WaynedP says:

Possibly true, reading the FAQs on BA.com for Vouchers (as opposed to FAQs for eVouchers).

Only the latter mentions up to four eVouchers can be applied to any one booking.

Omission of that in (Future Travel) Voucher FAQs probably implies only one FTV can be applied to any one single booking at a time, reinforced by explaining within FAQs what happens in event FTV is more, or less than cost of new booking.

      • Denis says:

Thank you. I only wanted to apply one FTV (which I did by phone) and one eVoucher. He said it was not allowed to add an eVoucher to cover the price difference.

        • Tom says:

You can’t use an evoucher to pay for an Avios booking if that was what you were trying to do.
