We are running this daily chat thread on Head for Points during the coronavirus outbreak.

Historically, the daily ‘Bits’ articles were the de facto repository for random comments and questions. With the news flow being lighter, we are running fewer ‘Bits’ articles.

The comments under this article are where you should post questions about travel and, indeed, anything else on your mind. At this tricky time, and given that many of you are at home, we want the HfP community to have a place to chat.

Please only comment under the main articles on the site if your comment is directly related to the topic of the article. This has long-term benefits as it keeps the commentary relevant for people who read those articles in the future.

Dilemma regarding which AMEX to apply next, OH is eligible for BAPP bonus as it has been 24 months and I’ll be eligible for Platinum bonus next month.
Confused if I should apply for Platinum next month and benefit from enhanced bonus or apply OH BAPP with reduced fee.
Which one to go for next? Don’t want to apply both together as unlikely will be able to meet the targets for both together.

  If it were me I’d be holding out and getting the Platinum first for the enhanced SUB. Then referring from the Platinum for the BAPP when ready.

  Just run the numbers – saving on BAPP fee vs the extra bonus points on the Platinum SUB. Plus you can refer from the Plat and receive more points than referring from BAPP, so factor that into calculations. Depends how you value an MR too.

  Rob seems to imply sign up bonus might be higher from 1st Sep, I’d wait before applying for BAPP.

    Yeah, i would go with the Platinum to refer the wife and i would probably wait until 1st September for potential enhanced BAPP bonus. Make sure to get referred to the Platinum yourself to get the 65k bonus rather than 60k.

Finally sorted our flights for summer22 using FTV (Avios+cash+Amex241), I still not have the confirmation email and booking not showing in BA APP. The agent said we should get an email within 24hrs and showing in APP. Just wonder if anyone was in the same situation and how long did it take for the email to come through?? Thanks.

      I changed my September Avios 2-4-1 booking until May 2022. Changes showed up straight away in app but it took about 10 days for the re-issued e-ticket and I could only change the seats once the e-Mail had come through

I have a cash ticket on Iberia next May that is Manchester to Madrid and then a redemption from Madrid to Buenos Aires 9 hours later – would Iberia combine the bookings so that I can check in baggage all the way from Manchester? If not, would Iberia check in at Manchester be able to do this for me instead?

  In my experience, no they won’t. I did LHR to MAD and then onto EZE and back LIM-MAD and then on to LHR in 2019 and they wouldn’t check through my luggage as the legs were on different bookings. Qatar on the other hand were very happy to check my luggage through from BKK to ARN and then onto a BA flight ARN to LHR.

  It was a De Vere hotel that IHG took over a couple of years ago. There have been a couple of comments about it recently & from what I can remember mainly along the lines of chintzy, country house, wedding venue type of place.

Staying in London in a couple of weekends time and trying to double it as a Marriott mattress run, notwithstanding it’s a dumb idea to mattress run in peak season.

Do I go for 2 nights at the London Marriott Hotel Regents Park or London Marriott Hotel Marble Arch (based on hotel quality and not location)? I’ve never stayed at either.

  I’ve been an account holder for around the same time and was invited to join some kind of virtual panel session with either Greg Wallace or Simon Calder a month or so ago. Was slightly tempted then remembered I’m on video calls all day. Would much prefer the cocktails!
