We are running this daily chat thread on Head for Points during the coronavirus outbreak.

Historically, the daily ‘Bits’ articles were the de facto repository for random comments and questions.  With the news flow being lighter, we are running fewer ‘Bits’ articles.

The comments under this article are where you should post questions about travel and, indeed, anything else on your mind.  At this tricky time, and given that many of you are at home, we want the HfP community to have a place to chat.

Please only comment under the main articles on the site if your comment is directly related to the topic of the article.  This has long-term benefits as it keeps the commentary relevant for people who read those articles in the future.

Old chat threads are hidden from the HfP home page.  If you want to look for something in an old thread, click here.  This brings up all the articles in our ‘General’ category which includes the chat threads.

anyone else getting issues using their evouchers now?

Keep getting this for 4 different vouchers: Your email and last name must match the details in your eVoucher email

I even waited till this morning to cancel for an evoucher so that the ticket was issued. Chat is saying I have to call but I have spent hours on hold over the last few months and im so reluctant. Any fixes?

    • Louie says:

It was suggested yesterday to try using the surnames of other people on the cancelled booking (assuming they are different), even if the email sent to you is in your name.

    • Peter says:

Got exactly the same issue, have you found a solution?

  • Vit says:

Hello all, I will be having a home preservation bill to pay (~£11k). The firm accepts credit card but not amex. My options are as below:

    1. Creation it and then double dipping with beardy, or

    2. Billhop it but from rough search, it will incur me a fee of ~£300. It should trigger my GC (spend £15k for 10k MR pts in Feb 2022) but the math seems to show quite a poor value getting the point that way as I still have another 6 months to spend that £10k.

Just wondering if anyone has better idea or I am missing anything.

    Cheers,
    Vit

Works fine BUT you may need to ring the hotel and beg them to charge you in advance, since many don’t actually bother to charge in advance even when you book an Advanced Purchase rate.

  • TGLoyalty says:

As long as the hotel takes payment now it’ll work no problem.

  • Anuj says:

I now have multiple e-vouchers thanks to the avios promo. To consolidate, can I just make a very expensive booking using up multiple vouchers, then cancel that for a combined voucher ? Are there any t&cs I should be aware of that could cause any issues? Thanks

  • J says:

Repasting here as the bottom comment is always missed:

Keep getting this for 4 different vouchers: Your email and last name must match the details in your eVoucher email

  • J says:

Okay so, it appears they decided to send me the evoucher email, however when I go to manage the booking of the flights that the evoucher doesnt work, it shows the following:

Using your future travel voucher is easy. Simply call us when you’re ready to book a flight or holiday, tell us your voucher code and we’ll complete your booking.

We’re replacing your booking with the voucher, so you’ll no longer be able to use your JRRBE6 booking reference on ba.com or our app.

Your voucher will be in your email inbox within 48 hours if you haven’t received it ye

Any ideas how to solve for this? I dont want 6x evouchers being switched to FTV’s, especially after they are emailing me evouchers.

    • ChrisC says:

What numbers do they start with?

125-4 are e-vouchers useable on line

125-2 Are FTVs needing a call.

      • J says:

        All start with 125-4

However when trying to use them as evouchers, it gives me the following error:

“Your email and last name must match the details in your eVoucher email”

Second to that, when I spoke to them on live chat, they said the evoucher details are correct their side, and if im getting the error I need to call to use. I’m just worried they will try to fob me a FTV.

I’m currently on hold, usually takes 1 hour to get through. Really hoping this is an easy fix.

        • kitten says:

Yesterday someone said if booking for multiple people it may choose another of the surnames to put the voucher in. Try any other surname on the original booking

    • Niall says:

I would imagine that the wording you see in MMB just shows the same if it is a FTV or evoucher. That alone wouldn’t worry me. That you are unable to book with your evoucher at the moment is more concerning, but hopefully someone will be along soon to confirm they have made a booking since your first post.

  • Ollie says:

Why is there not much mention of the Avios hotel portal here? I made a booking on it last night and earnt 15 Avios per £, plus it looks like it went through as a BA transaction so another 3 Avios per £ on the BAPP and the price and benefits were the same as booking direct! The prices are about the same as Amex travel which only offers a measly 2 MR per £ yet they both seem to use the same underlying hotel portal. I usually book directly with hotels for status, but in this case it was non-affiliated so this seemed like the best option. Am I missing something or is this simply a really good deal?

    • SteveJ says:

Status, virtuoso benefits (Emyr) and possible Amex c@shback are reasons not to book via the Avios portal.

As you say if non affiliated you’ve bagged a great deal 👍

    • BuildBackBetter says:

They have been unreliable in the past, withdrawing some of the avios suddenly without reason, sometimes even after a year.

      • BuildBackBetter says:

Ignore me, I thought you were talking about shopping portal.

        • Marie says:

I got a great deal on a luxury hotel in Corfu. Can cancel up to 24 hours for £35, which I had to .Unfortunately it took multiple phone calls and emails to get the refund and 5 weeks . That said – it was a good deal , shame I couldn’t go.

    • Sandgrounder says:

Used avios.com in Iceland in July, points credited no problems.

    • FatherOfFour says:

Ditto- I had already booked with BA Holidays before finding out about this and my room type is sold out for my dates- otherwise I may have tried converting. I’m wondering if there is perhaps more protection in having as a BA Holiday, even though my flights were booked separately.
