British Airways continuing to run Boeing 787 aircraft on European routes

A couple of weeks ago we covered BA’s decision to run, for cargo purposes, Boeing 787 long-haul aircraft on European routes. The story was picked up elsewhere including by The Independent.

The sweet spot, of course, was booking Club Europe and getting a flat bed for your European hop.

British Airways has now extended this service until Sunday 19th September, so it might be worth a look for a quiet break once the kids are back in school. I am told that they are likely to continue until the end of year and IAG Cargo is selling the space on that basis. The flights will not be updated in ba.com until nearer the date of travel.

British Airways short haul routes using Boeing 787

Here are the participating routes. The times represent the Heathrow departure time – obviously there will be a matching return flight a few hours later.

Frankfurt

  • Friday, Sunday (all 08.00)

Larnaca

  • Monday (09.10), Thursday (09.25)

Moscow

  • Wednesday (13.20), Saturday (13.20)

Zurich

  • Wednesday, Sunday (all 09.35)

Athens

Paris

  • Wednesday (10.55)

Stockholm

  • Friday (07.10)

Rome (Boeing 777, not a Boeing 787)

  • Friday, Sunday (both 08.20)

In addition, Iberia is still running an A350 on various flights between Heathrow and Madrid.

When you are booking a flight on ba.com, click on the ‘Flight Details’ link during the booking process. Part of the data that pops up is the aircraft type which is scheduled.

You can use our British Airways Boeing 787-8 ‘best seats’ guide to decide where to sit. If your aircraft seat plan shows a First Class cabin then you need to toggle to our Boeing 787-9 seat guide.

Got on BAPP, spend £5k, get additional 10k bonus Avios.

788s to Frankfurt too. My seating plan offered the usual business class seat rows outbound, but added/offered the premium economy seats on the return. Also, the plan looked almost hand-drawn!

  • AW says:

Does anyone know whether my 2-4-1 voucher would get extended under an future additional extension if I have already made a booking and don’t cancel until after any such extension is announced? voucher expires in Feb so am due to fly in Dec but would happily take an extension to use in mid-2022 instead. Thanks.

If you’re looking for an IAG widebody, Aer Lingus are flying an A330-300 on the DUB-LHR route daily except Saturday at 6.30pm (6pm Mondays). The LHR-DUB flight leaves Hounslow around 9pm (8.30pm Mondays).

Aer Lingus are also scheduling their A321LR on the route (with a flat bad in Business), but presumably easier for them to swap it out for a normal short haul plane at short notice.

It is weird looking up and seeing an Aer Lingus widebody flying into Heathrow.

Business Gold doesn’t have the bonus mentioned in the article but I did notice a £25 cash back on £100+ spend at Toolstation until 30/9 which is possibly the first time I’ve seen a cash back offer on my business card that could feasibly relate to a business purchase! Maybe I need to change my business to be more fashion, gym, and make up focussed 😀

    • The Savage Squirrel says:

Haha yes thought exactly the same when I saw that. Lots of businesses need tools. Handmade cheesecake deliveries and jewellery seems a bit more niche…?

      • Mark says:

Is the English Cheesecake Company offer still running? Nice cheesecake, good for our first-time-in-18-months get-together with friends. Not cheap though; I’m sure normal price though is more expensive per slice than the twin packs sold in Waitrose and at 14 slices for an online order definitely not an every-day buy!
