Maximise your Avios, air miles and hotel points

The HfP chat thread – Sunday 22nd August

We are running this daily chat thread on Head for Points during the coronavirus outbreak.

Historically, the daily ‘Bits’ articles were the de facto repository for random comments and questions.  With the news flow being lighter, we are running fewer ‘Bits’ articles.

The comments under this article are where you should post questions about travel and, indeed, anything else on your mind.  At this tricky time, and given that many of you are at home, we want the HfP community to have a place to chat.

Please only comment under the main articles on the site if your comment is directly related to the topic of the article.  This has long-term benefits as it keeps the commentary relevant for people who read those articles in the future.

Old chat threads are hidden from the HfP home page.  If you want to look for something in an old thread, click here.  This brings up all the articles in our ‘General’ category which includes the chat threads.

    @Jsemity Oh go on then!

@YC I took part in that as well, and was lucky that my HND J flights with 2x 241s got moved multiple times without refunds (I hope we actually get to fly them next year!)

@BJ the refund to evouchers using cheap routings means you can cash in at 2p / avios. Am sitting on 300k so happy to do some conversions.

above was reply to my own thread on pg8.

hope we get forums before 2028…

  • BuildBackBetter says:

What chance Emirates reinstates the STN route in the next 6 months?

    • Blair says:

Suggest you watch LHR aircraft. LHR used IIRC be all A380. Currently it’s a mix of A380 and 777. I suspect STN won’t return till other London airports look to be at capacity.

    • Matthew says:

Think they are selling seats from end March 2022 currently

  • Niall says:

What ever happened with the ambiguous wording on the reduced tier point requirements. I see the original article said for those who have a tier point collection year ending 8 June (as wording said before 30 June) and there was some confusion in comments. I assumed with my 8 July 2022 end I would not qualify, but in my account it shows 450 tier points needed to retain Silver. Was there an update on this I missed?

    • Jonathan says:

You should probably be asking on the main article on BA statuses that was posted this morning

      • Niall says:

Sorry, read that this morning before comments came in with others questioning the same thing. Looks like it took people by surprise that the TP collection threshold may be reduced for years ending after 8 June 2022 now.

  • BJ says:

Not quite sure why you are aiming this comment at me. However, I agree it is a great opportunity as can be gathered from my many comments in the associated article. Disappointingly I ultimately decided to give it a miss though. I set out my four reasons for doing so near the end of the article yesterday, about page 8 IIRC if you missed it and are interested. If I lived within the LHR catchment I would have been all over it.

    • BJ says:

That was supposed to be @mr_jetlag

      • mr_jetlag says:

Yes comments are all over the place, and to top it off I misread BP (who replied to me pg8) as BJ. That’s enough port tonight for me.

  • Aliyah says:

Quick question. Am on a business class flight from USA to London with American Airlines. Its an overnight flight. Do they offer nightwear like BA does in First Class. If yes, do you have to ask for it?

  • S879 says:

Is there an arrivals lounge at Heathrow T3 that people arriving in J could use if flying with BA or AA? Need to kill some time before pick up but don’t have priority pass or any other lounge pass.

    • ChrisC says:

No arrivals lounges at the moment

    • Andrew says:

The AA arrivals lounge would have allowed access for J AA and long haul BA arrivals to T3, but currently closed. If you fly Virgin J then their arrivals lounge at T3 is now open.
