Marriott Moments are back at the O2 in London

Marriott relaunched its Marriott Moments ‘experiences’ platform a couple of weeks ago, although there were no UK events at that point.

They have now started to filter through, albeit slowly. The Moments website is here.

First up are three sets of concert tickets:

(EDIT 8pm Thursday – the tickets have now been removed from the Marriott website. The Four Tops concert has been postponed until 2022 and the Genesis tickets will hopefully be relaunched later.)

There are six pairs of tickets for each concert.

The Marriott Bonvoy Suite at the O2 is impressive. Assuming the usual pre-covid set-up returns, there is a free hot buffet served before the concert and a free bar all night. I have been multiple times, and here is a review by Anika of how the Marriott Bonvoy suite works.

A picture of the suite is below. The only caveat is that it is a long way from the stage, so if you want to be close to the action – hard at the O2 – it isn’t the place for you. It’s better for casual fans who appreciate the ability to wander in and out of the suite at will during the evening.

There is one snag. Marriott has decided to auction tickets for the three concerts above. Bids have opened at 50,000 points for two people which – based on our 0.5p valuation of a Marriott Bonvoy point – is already a fair price. Let’s see if the impact of lots of people having lots of unspent points pushes up the bidding to a silly level.

Sounds like Virgin did forget about it – they’ve had since January (when status match was announced) to come up with a system! I guess they did have more important things to worry about, so it’s understandable, but still pretty poor show.

  Tbf to them, they only returned to T3 in the last few weeks & that was at fairly short notice so it would have been bottom of the list of priorities.
  
  Presumably they will have a limited validity as well so you’re better off not getting them till there’s a vague return to normal schedules otherwise they’ll expire unused.

  Not sure that’s true: Is travel back to normal yet? Nope. Is this the first time we’ve been reminded of it? probably. So it’s not exactly at the front of everyone’s mind. And if you’ve been to the Clubhouse when it’s busy, you’d understand the frustration for a customer if the front desk responded with, “There’s no room at the inn!”

BA screwed me over yet again. Needed to get to Edinburgh and had the option of London City or Heathrow. London City was ~£100 more overall (for two) but we booked that as we live near it and so it is much more convenient. Fast forward a few months and BA cancel the City flight and put us onto the Heathrow one. Of course now the Heathrow has gone up to close to what we originally paid so it looks like for like. But if I had booked Heathrow at the time I would have saved ~£100.

Is there anything I can do in this situation? It really seems unfair.

  It’s not really being screwed over, I don’t think BA has something against me even though they love cancelling my Bologna flights.
  
  Your options are:
  – Cancel for a full refund, maybe rebook on LNER
  – Move to another LCY flight if there’s ones still operating
  – Accept the LHR flight and remember in the current situation cancellations are commonplace so it’s not worth paying extra for the perfect flight.
  
  Once your flight is cancelled you have freedom to move it to another flight even if that flight was more expensive.
  
  So when I book flights I book for the day I want to travel, I won’t pay extra for more convenient flights knowing they could well be cancelled.

    The other option is to ask BA to move you back onto a LCY flight at an alternative time. There are still flights from there to Scotland, just not as many. They don’t know which option you would find most convenient so picked one for you… but you don’t have to accept it, you can ask for an alternative that suits you.

      For some reason (well I’ve missed flying CityFlyer since I’ve been out the UK!) I’m flying LBA-BHD-LCY tomorrow and both flights appear to be very busy.

  I last used 45K for ‘The Script’ gig at the end of February 2020. I’m guessing it was one of the last gigs before lockdown. Mind you, it was probably a super-spreader too! Jam packed! Always, enjoyable, but, as Rob says, you are a long way back!
