The HfP chat thread – Thursday 19th August

We are running this daily chat thread on Head for Points during the coronavirus outbreak.

Historically, the daily ‘Bits’ articles were the de facto repository for random comments and questions.  With the news flow being lighter, we are running fewer ‘Bits’ articles.

The comments under this article are where you should post questions about travel and, indeed, anything else on your mind.  At this tricky time, and given that many of you are at home, we want the HfP community to have a place to chat.

Please only comment under the main articles on the site if your comment is directly related to the topic of the article.  This has long-term benefits as it keeps the commentary relevant for people who read those articles in the future.

Old chat threads are hidden from the HfP home page.  If you want to look for something in an old thread, click here.  This brings up all the articles in our ‘General’ category which includes the chat threads.

Anna – you were asking yesterday about the IC Prague. This Wikipedia article is really interesting: https://cs.wikipedia.org/wiki/InterContinental_Prague (use Google Translate from Czech, as the English version isn’t nearly as informative). It was apparently built for mainly PanAm customers flying into Prague. There’s a picture from this year as well, which shows you quite how thorough the refurb is!

  • Nic says:

Question re Amex BA 2 for 1 voucher.

It is coming close to 1 Sept when the new voucher comes into force. How is the date of the voucher issue determined. Is it on the actual day that you cross the £10,000 mark or is it statement date of the period in which you cross the £10,000 mark?

  • Andrew says:

    5% BoS
    10% MBNA
    15% Halifax

    7% PAW
    7% Airtime

    • Anuj says:

Which of those banks can one sign up to and get the offers retrospectively? (Unlike amex where you only get offers that start after your card starts)

      • mark2 says:

        I would guess none.
You are not guaranteed the offers anyway: We have no offer on Lloyds(2), Halifax(2) or Airtime.

    • Magic Mike says:

      10% on Virgin…

      • Magic Mike says:

… Although you click through to the offer and it says 7% in the Ts and C’s!

    • Rob says:

I got the same. I’ve saved it on the fairly unlikely offchance I pass a Morrissons between now and the closing date.

  • BJ says:

OT @Pete M, thanks for the encouragement to contact BA via Skype yesterday. Worked well, I got through in just under an hour, got a good CSA who moved us from INV to EDI departure at no extra cost and also allowed us to save about 17k Bonvoy as I can now cancel our hotel.

  • Andrew says:

Things get lost, so a quick repeat of my post from Page 3.

Morrissons Offers are back on many cards *and* PAW (7%) *and* Airtime (7%).

    • Andrew says:

My Virgin Moneyback headline figure is 10%, but in the T&Cs it’s only 7% (or 1% under £30)

    • BJ says:

Agreed, all my cards appear to have lost it!

    • BrightonReader says:

so when the thread moves on a few more pages you’re going to repost this again and again and again?

      • Andrew says:

        Is that a request?

        • BrightonReader says:

its a request not to repost the same thing the same day!

things are always going to get lost, If everyone reposted things these threads would be much longer and much less useful

          • Andrew Mc says:

+1 to no same day reposts. Not useful, not helpful. Just cluttering. Sorry!

    • KBuffett says:

I have 10% on my AirTime.

    • TGLoyalty says:

Virgin offer is confusing. Mine shows 7% on the image but 10% in the text (I imagine the text is the important but. Still a buyer @ 7% anyway

      • Sandgrounder says:

I’ve got 7 virgin cc 7 airtime and 6 shops away, total 20% rebate, not to be sniffed at.

    • Yorkie Aid says:

Not on my Airtime unfortunately 🙁

  • MM says:

Hi I bought some HH points yesterday hoping to book a hotel today. They Havnt showed up overnight and no one is able to do anything manually at HH end. Any thoughts? Really need to book a room for tonight.

  • Ollie says:

Update from yesterday. Thank you for the advice, it worked perfectly.

Situation was I had 2 Companion Vouchers expiring before the flights I wanted to use them for in July 2022 (family of 4). So I:

    1. Booked the same flights for Sept 2021 using the vouchers, paying the taxes.
    2. Immediately went into the booked and cancelled it.
    3. Within the hour, 4x Future Travel Vouchers were emailed through.
    4. Called the BA Exec Club phone number, 15 minute hold and rebooked the flights I did want in July 2022 using those vouchers, no additional Avios/Cash to pay.

    Thank you!!

    • KBuffett says:

Can anyone confirm if Avios redemption seats need to be available when rebooking with a FTV?

      • Ollie says:

They do need to be available if the FTV was originally an Avios booking

      • ChrisC says:

        Yes

They don’t if the flight has been cancelled and you are directly rebooking to a future date.

  • Tomgold says:

Where can I catch up on the changes to the Virgin credit card T&C’s. I need to get a better understanding of the cash advance change of rules

    • JDB says:

In the same vein as those asking people not to repeat posts, perhaps people could refrain from asking things they could equally do themselves. Strangely the new Virgin card T&Cs are on their website.

      • Tomgold says:

        Lovely you are!
I know how to read thank you.
I am looking for more practical terms regarding numbers and charges + people’s experience which is very much the spirit of these threads
