The HfP chat thread – Friday 13th August

We are running this daily chat thread on Head for Points during the coronavirus outbreak.

Historically, the daily ‘Bits’ articles were the de facto repository for random comments and questions.  With the news flow being lighter, we are running fewer ‘Bits’ articles.

The comments under this article are where you should post questions about travel and, indeed, anything else on your mind.  At this tricky time, and given that many of you are at home, we want the HfP community to have a place to chat.

Please only comment under the main articles on the site if your comment is directly related to the topic of the article.  This has long-term benefits as it keeps the commentary relevant for people who read those articles in the future.

Old chat threads are hidden from the HfP home page.  If you want to look for something in an old thread, click here.  This brings up all the articles in our ‘General’ category which includes the chat threads.

I know you all hate Sweaty Betty. So move on if expensive workout gear is not your thing. One of the plat accounts in the family and all the sup cards have a Lululemon offer!!! I am so excited, was jealous that I didn’t get one last year!

    • Reney says:

Forgot to say, looks like it doesn’t stack with the Bicester Village offer since that store is excluded. Nor does it stack with the Covent Garden offer since Lululemon is not included in the CG offer.

Side note. I don’t recall seeing anyone ask whether the Apple offer stacks with the Covent Garden offer, since the latter appears to include the apple store.

  • AnotherUser says:

Partner qualified for this offer, but can’t see the free night in the IHG app. Any idea where to look, before chasing with IHG? https://www.ihg.com/content/gb/en/deals/member-offers/ihgrewardsclub-private-leisure-reward-night-2021-terms

  • Duster says:

Need a hotel in central London for tomorrow night (just realised we have a Hawksmoor voucher that runs out! – first world problems). Probably cash given the time to transfer from Amex MR. Any obvious options? Currently looking at Top Secret on Lastminute.

    • Harry T says:

Budget? Preferred type of hotel? Desiree facilities and location?

      • Duster says:

Thanks Harry. Central – but close to a Hawksmoor even better. Ideally sub £150 until someone points out an amazing deal for more that I talk myself into. Type…ummm…don’t know! Sorry.

        • Harry T says:

Do you have access to healthcare rates with Marriott and Hyatt? That’s a solid way to get some hotels for good prices.

    • KBuffett says:

      Hotel Cafe Royal
      AmEx offer live
Should also get £100 through Emyr

      • ChrisC says:

I think Emyr needs 24 hours notice.

Am sure I read or he told me he can’t do same day bookings.

        • KBuffett says:

FHR can do it but you need to call and they will need to call the hotel to confirm. But you’re right, under 24 hours makes it hard to stack these deals

    • BJ says:

Sofitel St James, go on spoil yourself! Stack amex offer with Accor member rate plus the places we don’t mention and you should get it for £150ish.

    • Alan S says:

You could use the Hawksmoor voucher for an at home box on their website. Thoroughly recommend them.

    • Kevin C says:

If you haven’t booked yet there are some decent options for tomorrow on the hotel tonight app.

  • Doreen says:

Tables available at Borough Market – Citizen M Bankside or Mercure London Bridge around £160

  • Sloth says:

Have just managed to get my current FTV vouchers which held avios and cash (rfs short haul bookings so £17.50 pp per leg) refunded with no fee charged. Seems they are doing that until April, I was told

  • Luke says:

I just switched my electricity and gas supply to sainsburys energy on a 2 year fix for 8,000 nectar points. I was surprised the points posted as soon as the switch completed and there is no exit fee. Haven’t checked the T&C to see if they would claw back the nectar if I switch again immediately but might interest someone?

    • BJ says:

Interesting, surprised there is no exit fee. Given the rise in prices and green agenda 2y fix might even prove to be a smart move. But only a matter of time before the new blue wall MPs start screaming about fuel poverty.

      • TJones says:

New blue wall MPs may scream, but they all fall in line when push comes to shove. Maybe they’ve had a junior minister role dangled in front of them. More fool them if they believe a Johnson promise. Recent example: Christian Wakeford (Bury South) on foreign aid.

      • Anuj says:

I would do this but unfortunately we’re on such a good deal we wouldn’t be able to switch back to something similar

  • Mco says:

Was picking club seats on BA 787 flight and it’s showing row 1 as being available with 4 seats per row which is First. Errors out when I select them. Anyone know if they will allocate these to club pax as they aren’t selling F on this route.

    • Jonathan says:

Only if there aren’t enough seats for Club ticket holders.

Often they will allocate to status passengers at check in or boarding but sometimes they are available to all in the 72 hours pre departure.

Problem is if there are any empty seats further back they will kick you out so it’s a risk of ending up in a middle middle seat separated from any travelling companions. They’ll move you right up to doors closing eg. If someone misses connection.

I’d only roll the dice if flying solo and there weren’t any decent CW seats I could select.
