The HfP chat thread – Wednesday 11th August

We are running this daily chat thread on Head for Points during the coronavirus outbreak.

Historically, the daily ‘Bits’ articles were the de facto repository for random comments and questions.  With the news flow being lighter, we are running fewer ‘Bits’ articles.

The comments under this article are where you should post questions about travel and, indeed, anything else on your mind.  At this tricky time, and given that many of you are at home, we want the HfP community to have a place to chat.

Please only comment under the main articles on the site if your comment is directly related to the topic of the article.  This has long-term benefits as it keeps the commentary relevant for people who read those articles in the future.

Old chat threads are hidden from the HfP home page.  If you want to look for something in an old thread, click here.  This brings up all the articles in our ‘General’ category which includes the chat threads.

  • Anna says:

Now travel’s restarted I don’t really feel that inclined to spend my time sharing my wisdom, @cyclist, can’t think why that would be …

  • Andrew Mc says:

Made 2 x Deliveroo transactions on 1 August on Amex Gold. Received my 2 x £5 credits for my 2 x July transactions within a few days. But no credit showing for either August transaction thus far. Surprising? Thanks.

    • Andy D says:

Surprising only that Deliveroo didn’t screw up the delivery so much that you decided to order again.

      • Richie says:

My deliveroo delivery has never been acceptable, I always have to complain.

        • TGLoyalty says:

          Never? Where do you live?

          • Rob says:

Bizarre. We have done loads over the last month and all fine. Possibly helps that we never order from anywhere more than a mile away. Have even ordered a few Pret lunches recently when the weather was bad.

        • KBuffett says:

The issue more often than not is the supplier and not the delivery agent

      • Youllnever says:

Never had any issues with Deliveroo so it’s probably just your luck.

      • BJ says:

Only used them 4 times so far but I was impressed with delivery. Followed Rob’s recommendation to stick within 2 miles of home though.

    • Benilyn says:

Have used maybe 100 times in last 18 months, I’d say 90% of drivers flawless, 5% communication issues, 5% doing Uber eats at the same time so delay in delivery.

    • Tony Soprano says:

I used the Deliveroo benefit on AMEX Gold for the first time last Thursday. 1x Deliveroo Plus subscription (currently £1) and 1x meal. Received £5 credit on Thursday and another £5 credit turned up yesterday.
Side note – Deliveroo in East London has many more restaurants than Uber Ears and drivers (so far) are much more timely.

  • Tracey says:

Just managed to change a cancelled flight for the end of August, booked last November, for June 2022. Luckily I could do it online. Impressed how seamless this was given it’s past ticket validity and already changed the dates once.

    • Gruntfuttock says:

      Who with? 🤔

      • Tracey says:

BA. Sorry I should have said. LHR-TLV. BA had already cancelled the outbound and we foolishly just moved our flight to the previous day, naively thinking we would be able to travel. Then BA cancelled the return, so we took the opportunity to move the flights to next year.

  • Mrs_Fussy says:

Keen to hear first hand experience in case anyone from UK has recently transited via Abu Dhabi or Doha airports

  • maccymac says:

BPme just emailed offering cumulative 700 points over the next 3 visits (200+200+300) no minimum spend. Exclusions apply and are at selected locations but no mention in the T&Cs of where these locations are. No mention of a minimum spend which is a plus.

  • Mouse says:

I haven’t seen this mentioned already, sorry if I’m repeating – looks like the only change to the Nectar credit card since 8 August is a reduction of the bonus to 8k points instead of 10k

  • Thom says:

yes it does – had it track through without problem on 2 cards. Took 7-14 days after the transaction for the credit to show for mne.

    • Johnny5a says:

Thanks Thom – as there’s a bonus BPMe 50 points (not huge amount but every little counts) offer

  • Stephen says:

NHS workers – £20 Day 2 test – on government approval list, can confirm code comes through and is accepted on PLF

    • StevieKicks says:

      Thanks!
Day 2 NHS seems to be out of stock. Only Day 8 NHS available. No idea if they’re actually any different though

      • YC says:

+1 – Do we know if Day 8 test work/also come with code for PLF?

      • Tracey says:

Some of the day2 tests are genome sequenced if positive, so in theory they aren’t interchangeable.

    • StevieKicks says:

£20 test shows as available if you use this direct URL, not sure if order will actually go through correctly or not though
      https://covidtests.everythinggeneticltd.co.uk/details.php?ttr=21

    • Ryan says:

Very interesting that they accept refunds….

Hypothetically then… book day 2 & 8, use for PLF and then request refund without actually taking the test…?!

      • StevieKicks says:

Everyone selling online has to offer refunds within 14 days anyway.
Although it seems that the PLF will accept any random string as a reference, so if you’re not going to bother taking the test there’s no point ordering.
