We are running this daily chat thread on Head for Points during the coronavirus outbreak.

Historically, the daily ‘Bits’ articles were the de facto repository for random comments and questions.  With the news flow being lighter, we are running fewer ‘Bits’ articles.

The comments under this article are where you should post questions about travel and, indeed, anything else on your mind.  At this tricky time, and given that many of you are at home, we want the HfP community to have a place to chat.

Please only comment under the main articles on the site if your comment is directly related to the topic of the article.  This has long-term benefits as it keeps the commentary relevant for people who read those articles in the future.

Old chat threads are hidden from the HfP home page.  If you want to look for something in an old thread, click here.  This brings up all the articles in our ‘General’ category which includes the chat threads.

Anyone been to the new Domes in Corfu? Reviews looked mixed but mainly because it sounds like they opened before they hotel was actually ready to be opened. Wonder if things have settled down there now?

  • Andy says:

Wouldn’t recommend contacting BA on Twitter – took almost a week for them to come back on a flight date change (that for some reason couldn’t be finalised online) and they are quoting a 25% fare difference when booking a new flight costs exactly the same as what I paid. Just took a voucher and rebooked instead.

Need to wait 2 to 3 days at a time for them to ask a question, and then another 2 to 3 days for them to see the response. Seen plenty of people complain about the waiting time on the phone but clearly this is not an alternative which works

    • Sam G says:

That is a shame, I’ve used it a couple of times before and got replies within a few hours (and call backs when needed to pay for something)

    • Anna says:

+1, they took 3 days to get back to me this week and all they could suggest was to call BA but admitted it would be extremely difficult to get through!

      • pauline says:

difficult!! its impossible. I have called over 20 times. Mostly I have had the message that they are too busy so call back later. Have got put on hold 6 times and cut off after an hour. I have tried at all times of the day. Also used twitter (first time ever but needs must but no response. I need to cancel an avios booking for saturday so I suppose all I can do is take a voucher unless any one has any other suggestions. This is what BA want – it is ridiculous you cant cancel on line. I am a lowly blue which I suspect doesn’t help.

        • Sam G says:

try bang on 8am tomorrow or try the US lines via Skype

          • pauline says:

thanks my first call yesterday was at 8.01 and this morning bang on 8am. What is the US number to call? thanks

          • idrive says:

US via SKYPE did not work for me, was not connected

        • GRIMZ says:

If they cancel my 1st class flights (which will happen soon) can I call the BA 1st class line and get rebooked? I take it this is quicker?

    • John Gallagher says:

2 weeks ago sorted 2 separate issues for me within 48 of first tweet

  • peter says:

Wait 10 days then Amex chat, I had once 10% off Virgin train ticket.. in T&C it only stated that the ticket must be purchased using their website – so I did buy a yearly commute ticket there – same price, although it didn’t register, they have given me 10% back within a month as I followed the rules.

    • Charlie says:

Thanks mate. Yea I’ve followed the rules as it says online or in store and I did it in store. I’ll just hang fire for a while

  • CG says:

Sorry if this has been covered before. I have a family BA holiday booking next Monday which qualifies for the free lounge, double tier points and fast track security offer. We fly next Monday (16th August). The Ts and Cs imply I will need to book lounge access and that I should get an email 7 days before my flight telling me how to do this. I have not received an email and can’t get through to BA on chat or phone in a sensible time frame due to large wait times. Has anyone used this offer booked lounge access etc.? Should I have received something by now or should I sit tight?

    Thanks

    • WaynedP says:

      Enjoy your holiday.

Personally I thought that BAH offer was a bit of a wheeze.

£1500 PER PERSON required to trigger, or £2500 PP if travelling Club class.

I managed to book 7 nights 5 star half board Club Europe return for TWO of us for just a shade over £1500 all in.

Couldn’t justify or even see how to spend an additional £3500 just for priority check-in and lounge access.

      • CG says:

Thanks we’re going for 11 nights so unfortunately it was quite easy to hit the trigger. It was a sweetener rather than the reason for booking – but would be nice to actually get the sweetener!

        • CG says:

In case anyone else has the same queries I just got an email from BA. Apparently I need to just show the email to staff at the check-in area who show you to premium check-in and your boarding pass is then what you use for fast track security, lounge access (if space) and priority group 3 boarding (not sure what group 3 is).

  • GaryE says:

Quick Question – have not been to an airport for near on 18 months! Have a drop off and pick up next week at T5 – I think the new charges of £5 has not come into effect yet – but has the ANR been put in place? I usually just drop off at the departure door of T5 and pick up from the same place – but don’t want to risk being fined if the ANR is now in place. In advice appreciated

    • Richie says:

Heathrow.com advises October. BTW there are big signs advising that you should not pick up at the departures and must use a car park to pick up passengers.

    • JDB says:

The £5 drop off fee is from October. The ANPR for pick ups has been in place for a long time and there are patrols who move people on as well, not really worth the risk.

    • Jonathan says:

If you really want to do a pick up or drop for free, just use the long stay car parks. They’re also far less hectic

  • Reney says:

+1 I am sure I got the 25k before I re-qualified and when i asked for my 25k from qualifying CS insisted my 25k was from qualification (dates were super close) and I couldn’t be bothered to list out all the dates and explain to them in detail.

  • r* says:

W Abu Dhabi F1 team, does anyone know what the 350 aed daily F1 fee that was charged on bookings actually covers? Does it basically act as general admission ticket that gives access to abu dhabi hill?

Cos the way concert access is being done has changed this year, ticket holders have to pick which concert they want to go to, not sure how thats going to work with these being fees rather than directly bought tickets?

    • Babyg says:

How can I check if a flight is still going ahead?
I have booked Vueling from Cardiff to PMI on the 6th October but this flight doesn’t show anywhere? Tried contacting Vueling and cannot get in touch

    • Richie says:

Is the flight there on Iberia.com with an IB flight number?

      • Pete M says:

It’s not showing up on Expert Flyer as either VY or IB on 6/Oct. It does show as a BA/VY codeshare, but all availability is zeroed out, so would assume it’s not going ahead. Looks like there is a flight on 4/Oct though with plenty of availability.
