We are running this daily chat thread on Head for Points during the coronavirus outbreak.

Historically, the daily ‘Bits’ articles were the de facto repository for random comments and questions.  With the news flow being lighter, we are running fewer ‘Bits’ articles.

The comments under this article are where you should post questions about travel and, indeed, anything else on your mind.  At this tricky time, and given that many of you are at home, we want the HfP community to have a place to chat.

Please only comment under the main articles on the site if your comment is directly related to the topic of the article.  This has long-term benefits as it keeps the commentary relevant for people who read those articles in the future.

Old chat threads are hidden from the HfP home page.  If you want to look for something in an old thread, click here.  This brings up all the articles in our ‘General’ category which includes the chat threads.

FYI: I spoke to BA today re my September booking to USA. It took me 55 minutes to get through to Avios line (as it was a 2-4-1 voucher). I had remembered that someone commented the other day about being automatically cut off after 1hr so asked the representative to take my number just in case. Suffice to say half way through the amendment, on the hour, I was cut off. True to her word she rang me back 5 minutes late and the changes were made at no cost to me. Note of caution the rental car prices have gone ballistic and they wanted an extra £350 for the car that I had booked. I cancelled it and started to look for an alternative but no joy…silly prices. Will have to go back to BA and get another car added on at higher price.

Hi, not sure where in the USA you are flying to, but I had a similar problem. Car hire at LAX has gone through the roof. However, I managed to find sensible prices with Hertz away from the airport. I figured a small amount of inconvenience to get there was worth the saving.

In my experience having flown Easyjet a number of times during the pandemic, enforcement of mask policies has been extremely lax, and I don’t recall seeing anyone challenged. The worst example was on disembarking once in Glasgow (mid pandemic, pre vaccines), a woman grabbed her bag and charged up the cabin and stood right next to my seat in row 1 with a mask hanging around her neck. I asked her to kindly put it on, got abuse back. The cabin crew, a couple of metres away simply stood with their back to us, and I had to ask them to intervene, which they were reluctant to do.

Capital on Tap Hit the 5k spend target within 3 months only 10000 bonus not the 20000 as per promotion ☹️

    Thanks Rob, very helpful.

Useful to know about the Costa tip too. I walk past the hotel quite often, so that would be a way to add a few more pounds to cross the £200 threshold even without booking a room.

I have reluctantly accepted that I wont get to see Springsteen on Broadway on Sep 1st due to being UK based. Does anyone know of anyone NYC based that would like them? I only want face value for them ($173 for the pair) Not sure if it goes against forum rules but really don’t want them to end up in scalpers hands.

    • Tom says:

Hi Den, I’d happily take them off your hands, wouldn’t be for me but a gift to my sister who is a big Bruce fan and is currently US based! You can email me at tom at emailup.co.uk if they are still available!

Hi everyone, still trying to figure out the rules for entering Bulgaria. Do I need to have been out of the UK for a fixed amount of time prior to entry, (if so, what is the timescale) or are we just not allowed to enter direct from the UK? Can’t find the info anywhere. Thanks

    • LS says:

Need to be starting your journey from outside the UK (or any other red list country for Bulgaria).

There is no set time for this, but you would need to convince a Bulgarian immigration guy that your point of origin was not a red list country. This specifically excludes any transit stop. So flying UK -> Spain -> Bulgaria on one itinerary to get in would not work. Would stopping for a day trip in Madrid work? Would you have to spend a night there? A week? Two weeks? It is not specified. To look the immigration guy in the eye, I probably would do a few days at least.

Remember your passport will be stamped so they will be able to tell if they want.
PS: Spain is actually on Bulgarias red list, so dont choose there.

      • VickyTM says:

Great thanks – they seem to be making the info very hard to find!

        • Pete M says:

That’s a very accurate summary, LS – I would add that a UK passport is likely to generate excitement at the border, so if you had a different (ideally EU) passport, VickyTM, that would make life a lot easier.

Anyone know of a cheap rapid antigen test the govt website is useless if you just want a simple fit to fly antigen test.

    • meta says:

Collinson £32 with Amex20 or BA20. You can do it at St.Pancras or at the airports.
