We are running this daily chat thread on Head for Points during the coronavirus outbreak.

Historically, the daily ‘Bits’ articles were the de facto repository for random comments and questions.  With the news flow being lighter, we are running fewer ‘Bits’ articles.

The comments under this article are where you should post questions about travel and, indeed, anything else on your mind.  At this tricky time, and given that many of you are at home, we want the HfP community to have a place to chat.

Please only comment under the main articles on the site if your comment is directly related to the topic of the article.  This has long-term benefits as it keeps the commentary relevant for people who read those articles in the future.

Old chat threads are hidden from the HfP home page.  If you want to look for something in an old thread, click here.  This brings up all the articles in our ‘General’ category which includes the chat threads.

I know Malta Airport and the lack of Lounge access was discussed last week.
As a data point, I flew out of Malta on Saturday evening on a Club Europe rewards flight and I had lounge access in the La Valette Lounge.

    • Blair says:

How busy was the lounge? And what time of day were you there please?

    • David says:

You are supposed to email to book 24hours before info@valetteclub.com – always nearly empty but at table service atm.

      • Andyf says:

An 8pm flight and it was jam packed with table service. Possibly 40 plus people there. I sat in a side room which had its own fridge, so I could get up and help myself to drinks rather than queue.
I didn’t realise you had to book. If you are accessing the lounge with priority pass you will definitely need to book. I wouldn’t be as worried if its part of a ticket as I am assuming once you check in BA will tell the lounge on your behalf.

Has anyone flown to Copenhagen recently, please? What’s the arrangements on the ground regarding this weird orange/red categorisation they’ve put in place for the UK?

  • JanM says:

Is the referral part of the Amex website still down? It’s still not working for me this morning.

    • Chris says:

works for me, just checked and still got the 70k points offer, despite the splash screen on login suggesting otherwise

  • Paulinio says:

Does anyone know whether the 100£ off 300£ spend at Maybourne hotel would be triggered at the Claridges Restaurants?

I know the deal says Room Spend only but curious to see if anyone has had any experience with this?

    • Ivanka says:

no, didn’t work for us at the Berkeley

      • meta says:

There is a separate offer for F&B.

      • Paulinio says:

Ah thanks for that Ivanka, I was just at the Davies and Brooke on saturday and was a little gutted when I found out I could have potentially used the offer but feel better knowing it wouldnt have triggered anyway.

        Thanks!

    • Andrew (@andrewseftel) says:

If the hotel is willing to play ball, ask them to set up a virtual room that you can charge expenses to. This tends to work better if you are planning to visit multiple bits of the hotel (e.g. restaurant and spa). You’ll settle up at check out and it should go through as room spend.

    • JDB says:

It may be a bit late, but I have new offers on my BAPP card today for Firmdale Hotels one for hotel only, the other £25 off £75 restaurant/bar spend. The hotels aren’t Claridges, but still very chic + the food is significantly better and better value.

  • Ben says:

Hi. I have booked flights with BA (avios) to and from Spain but I booked them on separately so they have different ref numbers. Is there any benefit in calling to merge the booking (ie if one leg gets cancelled etc) or does it not make a differance?

    • ChrisC says:

Separate bookings can’t be merged into one.

If say your outbound was cancelled it does not affect the inbound so changing that would be a voluntary change requiring avios availability on the new flight plus any change fees.

    Amex
    Has Live Chat been closed?

Not appearing as an option when I’m logged in.

Mrs B added me as a Supp but did not get the 3000 MR points.

    • Chris Heyes says:

Blindman change country it Ireland it will be there

    • Ashraj says:

I used the live chat through the app yesterday. Maybe try there

      • Blindman says:

        Cheers
Using the APP as it is there

Muppet at the other end seems to be confused

Trending towards saying there is NO extra 3000MR points for adding a supp.

Funny that as I got the extra 3000MR for adding her to my account.

        • Aston100 says:

Amex live chat (Philippines) are useless.
Always better to phone where possible, and hope to get someone from Brighton answering.

Have a BA Holiday booking for Mykonos at end-Sept – is it possible to change the flight booking by one day but leave the hotel booking intact without having to rebook the entire trip? Got a great price for the package originally and looks like the price would be substantially higher for rebooking the holiday as a whole, but want to add an extra night (and tacking on an extra night booking direct w the hotel looks reasonably priced vs what it’s showing on the BA site).

Have seen Expert Medicals Day 2 (fully vaxxed) discussed on here a few times as the cheapest option – anyone had any issues adding to cart recently? Have tried multiple browsers to no avail… TIA

    • peter says:

they sell out quickly, but also make sure all possible checkboxes are checked, and fields filled correctly as the website doesn’t highlight problems well, just stops working

    • Simon says:

Yes, tried for 3 days. Just bought 4 from Randox instead. Painless experience, worth the extra 7 quid to move on and forget about it….

      • MM says:

The best experience by far every time. not worth saving few quids and not knowing what is happening. At least in London easy drop off locations and results next day every time

    • LS says:

Yup, just abandoned the Expert medicals one now. Went with Randox. Remember there are codes floating around for discounts.

      • Pete M says:

        Talking about Randox… https://twitter.com/ppaulcharles/status/1424478083332124677?s=24
(I do still think they are one of the better options, probably!)

        • Sam G says:

Picked up by the press now too…. why don’t the govt just add a ~£20 charge to the PLF and give them out at the border with a royal mail label on – they’ve got plenty of testing capacity!

          • Simon says:

What is the cost to these companies of getting a government license/authorisation ? Seems too easy…..

      • Harry T says:

We’ve had good experiences with randox. Just received another two tests very rapidly via DPD too.

        • Pete M says:

I think in this case, Simon, Randox are a victim of their own success.

          • Simon says:

Agreed on Randox, we have used them twice and cant complain about the service. But they are obviously suffering with too much business now and cant/wont turn it away. So my question is, how low is the bar to be accepted as a government supplier…… Why arent Amazon, the Post Office, BA, etc etc etc getting involved who have proven logistics abilities – even if in different areas.
