We are running this daily chat thread on Head for Points during the coronavirus outbreak.

Historically, the daily ‘Bits’ articles were the de facto repository for random comments and questions.  With the news flow being lighter, we are running fewer ‘Bits’ articles.

The comments under this article are where you should post questions about travel and, indeed, anything else on your mind.  At this tricky time, and given that many of you are at home, we want the HfP community to have a place to chat.

Please only comment under the main articles on the site if your comment is directly related to the topic of the article.  This has long-term benefits as it keeps the commentary relevant for people who read those articles in the future.

Old chat threads are hidden from the HfP home page.  If you want to look for something in an old thread, click here.  This brings up all the articles in our ‘General’ category which includes the chat threads.

Croatia needs evidence of a vaccine administered in last 270 days. Does anyone know if this is checked? Niche question I know, but for anyone who got their vaccine via a trial in 2020, it would appear Croatia is out

    • John Caribbean says:

I might have misunderstood. UK visitors need a lateral flow anyway, and that appears to meet the condition for entry without the need for a vaccination certificate

    • meta says:

Yes, checked unless you’re arriving as a EU national in which case nothing is checked.

      • meta says:

But you’re right anyone can enter with lateral flow test until 15 August. Then rules might change again.

        • John Caribbean says:

Great thanks. I guess I’ll just keep my eye out for any changes

Regarding the conversation about Hilton Status Match. I’m currently Gold with Hilton and a few others but wish to take part in the 9 stays in 30 days for Diamond. Has anyone got any experience around this? Thanks!

    • James says:

      90 days, my apologies.

      • Red Flyer says:

Yes I did this in 2019 and they moved me up from Gold to Diamond after I did the required stays.

        • James says:

Thanks. Did you have to get in touch with them to arrange this?

  • Tony1 says:

    Hi

Not sure if anyone can advise / help on this.

Looking for a timetable for the shuttle bus that take people to the Holiday Inn / Premier Inn = contacted hotel 3 days ago and no one seems to know anything ….

If it is 1 per hour – then I will be taking taxi ( again any idea on cost for this ? )

    Thanks

Traveling with disabled friend so not able to walk as I have before.

    • Genghis says:

You may need to be more precise on location

    • chris1922 says:

      Which airport ?

      • Tony1 says:

Sorry guys – brain dead after fighting F8 form for the PLF etc. That’s 2h of my life I can not get back.

        Stansted Airport.

    • Lady London says:

Info IIRC on the Premier Inn website. It costs at least £4 pp and goes, I think, to car parks as well and takes a long time. Not really walkable due roads layout IIRC. Personally especially if evening arrival, depending on cost, with someone disabled I’d check how long the taxi queue is on my arrival and use bus as backup. Some hotels are closer if you have points.

      • Tony1 says:

        Thanks. Taxi it is.

More worried that F8 has put the disabled person ( and they know as requested assistance ) on exit row, and chat said well you will have to pay to move seats….. I will swap as in next row. Just cant believe how bad they are …. Could not fly any other airline due to departure point being closest to pickup. I have a return booked 3 days later for me.

    • r* says:

Its every 30 mins. Supposed to be from xx.15 and xx.45 from premier inn but seemed to leave at more like xx.55 to get to hi at xx.00

  • xcalx says:

I have the free seatspy which I think ends today. Don’t use it much but that may change now I have a few Virgin vouchers and am ready to trigger a couple of BA vouchers in September.
Question Is the paid version accurate or is there another seatspy type offering out there. TIA

    • babyg_wc says:

It’s not bad accuracy wise, I think it’s worth the monthly fee..

  • Graeme says:

Does anyone have an escalation route at hotels.com that isn’t silverhr@chat.hotels.com, or even better might be read by someone in the UK?

  • Simon says:

If anyone is hoping for the business class lounge experience then based on last weekend I’d avoid Lufthansa from Frankfurt. The offering in the lounge last Sunday was a bottle of water and a ham sandwich and that was it. I left within a minute of arriving.

Flying back with BA this weekend Frankfurt – London City but doesn’t look like I’ll be able to do a comparison, I didn’t take advantage of the 79 euro upgrade to club I was originally offered and now the upgrade cost is an eye watering 902 euros!

    • Blair says:

If they’re going to let you eat any food (a sandwich) surely there’s no justification for no other food offering. It was barely a ceotable when Lufthansa lounges could only give you the water and sandwich when leaving. But to have you eat the sandwich in-lounge, baffling. I do wonder about the brand reputation hit they take when covid-fearful first timers pay for the business experience to avoid other people and the tale they tell is one of p155 poor lounges.

      • Simon says:

I can only assume it was cost savings as other outlets at the airport had a full food and drink service. Ended up buying a few cans of beer from a shop in the airport, not how I imagined my Lufthansa business experience to be.

        • Save East Coast Rewards says:

Lufthansa is not a premium airline on short haul. I hear their first class is amazing though but that doesn’t help if you’re only flying routes with business class

          • Lady London says:

I prefer the Gold lounges in Munich, felt much less difference with Silver lounge im FRA whereas in MUC depending which lounge First lounges are a bit better to very much better. pre-Covid anyway.

Saw somewhere the First Class – specific terminal of LH is reopening though in Sept if you’re flying LH seated in First

  • manilabay says:

Is anybody else having issues getting the Virgin Atlantic Rewards+ Credit Card to work in Curve? Had both transactions decline this morning…

  • HAK says:

So, am I right in thinking the following for a trip to France via Eurostar for someone that is fully vaccinated:

Outbound: Proof of vaccine via NHS app.
Inbound: Test to return (via Chronomics) which I can do 72 hours prior to getting on the train. Day 2 PCR test?

    • Graeme says:

      You are.

    • Graeme says:

      After the 8th, anyway.

      • HAK says:

Muchly ta! Now I just need to convince the wife that it is only a minor risk to go travel (she is panicked about being “stuck” in France for 10 days).

        Cheers.

        • Graeme says:

If you’re only going for a weekend then you can do the ‘return’ test before you gom sidestepping the risk.

          • Hak says:

Well, if we failed before leaving I think that would irritate her even more!

        • Tony1 says:

There are far worse places to be stuck ….
