The HfP chat thread – Friday 6th August

We are running this daily chat thread on Head for Points during the coronavirus outbreak.

Historically, the daily ‘Bits’ articles were the de facto repository for random comments and questions.  With the news flow being lighter, we are running fewer ‘Bits’ articles.

The comments under this article are where you should post questions about travel and, indeed, anything else on your mind.  At this tricky time, and given that many of you are at home, we want the HfP community to have a place to chat.

Please only comment under the main articles on the site if your comment is directly related to the topic of the article.  This has long-term benefits as it keeps the commentary relevant for people who read those articles in the future.

Old chat threads are hidden from the HfP home page.  If you want to look for something in an old thread, click here.  This brings up all the articles in our ‘General’ category which includes the chat threads.

Data point – Beardy to Solihull – £2.5k transfer on Aug 4 has now moved from pending to complete without any corresponding cash advance charge showing. A previous test transfer direct from Beardy to Che however DID show the 5% cash advance fee immediately and on the same value date…
Now to test post Aug 5 🙂

    • BP says:

      Can confirm first point too.

    • Alan says:

Has anyone tried a post Aug 5th Beardy to Ernie yet.
I cannot do my own test as I maxed out my credit limit in the run up to the 5th.

  • Marie says:

C19testing.co.uk ? Any feedback. It’s a self administered antigen test , but the certificate conveniently doesn’t say this. As I am a health professional I honestly think I would be a decent job .Getting an appropriately timed test whilst working full time is troublesome! France is 24 hours ! Flight is 7am .

Hilton Status match – The rules state that you only get one chance and I did a status match back in 2015. Is it a once in a lifetime thing, or will they let me have another shot?

    • Russ says:

What’s the worst they can do?

    • John says:

New account with variation of name, different address, email and phone

    • Lyn says:

I think the “once in a lifetime” wording was introduced more recently than 2015. So could be worth trying again, when you are sure you’ll be able to use it. The other terms of the match have changed since then as well.

I am in the middle of it, 5 down for Gold 4 to do for Diamond. Never got any email confirmations and for IHG only screenshot they accepted (eventually – 5 goes) was web page showing membership card!

    • Ja says:

I did it twice. First time I failed. Second time I did it was about a year later. I received an email saying they had accepted me and I had to do x number of nights. I did that but then they wouldn’t give me diamond as they said I could only try once. I sent an email, attaching their email to me where they had accepted me. Eventually they did give me diamond status

    • Alan says:

It used to be once per email address.
Even putting a random dot in your email address let you have another match.

  • Mark says:

Just had a really useful call with Amex Platinum re travel insurance – very easy to clarify why inclusions/exclusions are re. Amber destinations.

  • Nick Burch says:

You also need to complete a “sworn statement certifying the absence of COVID-19 symptoms and of any contact with a confirmed case of COVID-19” (download the template on various French government websites)

  • Optimus Prime says:

Mexico goes on the red list and BA counter-attacks by releasing a London-Cancún fare in business for £1217 🤣

    • Jonathan says:

You could go there for a couple of weeks then the US !

      • Optimus Prime says:

It’s a return fare though, you can’t come back from Mexico!

  • Anthony says:

Does anyone know if you can get a second Igloo/Bulb/Octopus referral bonus for the same address, if you use a different account holder name

  • HH says:

    I have a GUF2 expiring in a few months – can I artificially extend it à la 2-4-1s described in today’s article?
