You can now book American Express Platinum VIP events via a special app

Very quietly, American Express has rolled out an app which allows American Express Platinum cardholders to book its special Platinum events.
This is more beneficial than it seems.

American Express Platinum runs a range of VIP events. There are generally two types – free drinks parties events at upmarket stores, funded by the store to get you in the door, and paid events at high-end venues with an exclusive twist for cardholders.
The problem, historically, is that booking them required waiting for an email or brochure in the post to tell you what was happening, and then a call to American Express. Pre covid, spots would go quickly so you were often wasting your time.
The new app gets rid of these problems. You can see instantly which events still have spaces available, and you can reserve your slot online. You can also waitlist yourself for sold out events.
The downside, of course, is that the app is likely to lead to tickets disappearing even more quickly. Until Amex starts to publicise the app, however, you have an advantage. If you keep reading HfP, we will try to publicise new events as soon as they appear and before Amex notifies cardholders directly.
(Hilton Honors sent out a press release on Tuesday afternoon about the BMW PGA golf hospitality packages they were offering to members. Unfortunately, HfP readers had bought them all by noon on Tuesday after we published our article following a reader tip off!)
Downloading the Amex Experiences app
This is what you are looking for on the app store (this is the Apple version):
It says ‘Amex Nordics’ in the description which is probably why few people have discovered it so far. Ignore that.
When you download it, you can select your country and which card (only one can be chosen) you hold. I don’t know what you see if you select, say, Amex Gold – you may just see the tabs which describe the card benefts.
What is currently on offer for Platinum cardholders?
Bringing up the events list is a bit fiddly. It isn’t part of the home screen buttons, but if you look at the very bottom of the screen you will see a tab marked ‘Events’.
Here is a screenshot showing three events which still had spots available yesterday:
As an example of pricing, the NoMad party is £60, the Photo London VIP opening party tickets are free (£75 no-show penalty) and the Moet party at Home House is £60. The Moet party is for the launch of the Grand Vintage 2013 and, in my experience of Moet parties, you may get a bottle to take home – although this is not part of the published offer.
Conclusion
If you have The Platinum Card – and, arguably, if you live in London because there isn’t much here for those who rarely venture inside the M25 – you should download the Amex Experiences app.
The easier it is to book events, the more you are likely to attend and it will hopefully increase the value you get from the card.
