The HfP chat thread – Wednesday 4th August

We are running this daily chat thread on Head for Points during the coronavirus outbreak.

Historically, the daily ‘Bits’ articles were the de facto repository for random comments and questions.  With the news flow being lighter, we are running fewer ‘Bits’ articles.

The comments under this article are where you should post questions about travel and, indeed, anything else on your mind.  At this tricky time, and given that many of you are at home, we want the HfP community to have a place to chat.

Please only comment under the main articles on the site if your comment is directly related to the topic of the article.  This has long-term benefits as it keeps the commentary relevant for people who read those articles in the future.

Old chat threads are hidden from the HfP home page.  If you want to look for something in an old thread, click here.  This brings up all the articles in our ‘General’ category which includes the chat threads.

Ref IHG credit card, anyone having trouble creating their online security code.

Every time I go to set it, nothing happens and I get promoted again to set it

    • Rui N. says:

      Same here

    • Andrew Mc says:

Worked for me just now (set using app).

    • Blair says:

Fine for me. Only use it via Bendy so not sure of its purpose.

      • Harrier25 says:

If it fails to work in the app then you’ll need to log in via the website to set the security code.

        • Will says:

Not tried the app, been trying on website. Every time I log in it prompts and then fails to set. Will try app.

It might be to do with having supplementary card as it seems to be confused if I want to set supp or main.

      Their IT is shockingly bad!

  • Mco says:

Thinking of a last minute trip to Greece. Need the tests for the way back. Anyone know of a company that guarantees the antigen test delivered the next day? The type that I can do myself and get them to verify.

Also if someone could kindly save me some time, who does the cheapest 2nd day test now days?

    • TGLoyalty says:

Anti gen. no one guarantees next day from what I can see. You’re probably better getting it there for €20-40

Cheapest day 2 is expert medical £36

      • SteveKicks says:

Project Screen works fine, doesn’t pre populate any info. You confirm it all when you take the test and submit your result

        • Mco says:

Project screen seems to be doing next day DPD. How exactly do their antigen tests work? Does one just do the test yourself and upload results via app? How do they confirm the results?

  • VickyTM says:

Does anyone know if you can get “Fit to Fly” antigen tests at LAX to travel back to UK, or should I take one with me?
    Thanks

They can be collected from Bootle as well if anyone needs one in a hurry and is not too far away.

  • Kipto says:

Off to Majorca from Heathrow on Friday. Submitted the necessary forms online to BA this afternoon. Any idea how long it takes for the email to come back with the all clear to check in ?

From Manage My Booking? Not long. Most I’ve waited is an hour, and that was after midnight, UK-time..

  • Richie says:

I’m thinking of changing a SH avios booking. I want to move the outbound sector to October and keep the inbound sector as September. Does anyone know if I can do this in MMB or is it a call?

    • Lady London says:

I dont think you can without cancelling and making new tickets -as what you’re trying to do is to reverse the ticket? this would mean, if you don’t have a cancellation by the airline anywhere on your ticket (even one flight would do), that you’d have to pay cancellation charges on the avios booking you’d be cancelling in order to start again?

  • Ian says:

Is there anyway to use avios for internal flights in Canada? The market seems dominated by Air Canada and Westjet – so I suspect it’s not possible, but thought it was worth asking just in case.

    • Richie says:

There may be a one stop route that includes AA/AS operated flights, but it could be impractical.

    • Rob says:

Only if American or Alaska serve those cities and you are willing to go via the US.
