Maximise your Avios, air miles and hotel points

Get 2,000 Virgin Points by activating Tesco Clubcard Auto-Convert

Links on Head for Points may pay us an affiliate commission. A list of partners is here.

Tesco and Avios may have gone their separate ways but Virgin Atlantic remains a Tesco Clubcard partner.

Virgin Atlantic has launched another bonus if you agree to convert your future Clubcard points. You will receive 2,000 bonus Virgin Points if you switch your Tesco Clubcard account to auto-convert points to Virgin Flying Club.

There is also an extra carrot this time around. One person who sets up autoconvert will win 40,000 Virgin Points.

To turn on auto-convert, you need to visit the Clubcard website here.

Sign in to your account and click on ‘Clubcard Account’.  Select ‘Account Management’ and then ‘Voucher Schemes’.  From this page you can select the “Virgin Points” box to enable auto-exchange.

Note that:

  • you must activate auto-convert by 13th September
  • you must keep auto-convert turned on until at least the next Tesco voucher date of 21st October
  • you must have at least £1.50 of Clubcard vouchers available for conversion on 21st October
  • you must not have received a bonus for turning on auto-convert to Virgin Flying Club in the past
  • your 2,000 Virgin Points will be awarded by 21st November

I am usually a little sceptical about auto-converting your Clubcard points. You would miss out if a conversion bonus came along, or indeed a better Tesco Clubcard offer launched with another partner.

In general, it is better to keep your Clubcard vouchers in a drawer until you need them, or until a conversion bonus appears.

However …. the days of lucrative offers on Tesco Clubcard seem to be over.  2,000 Virgin Points is also a VERY good incentive – you’d usually need to spend £800 in Tesco to earn £8 of Clubcard vouchers to receive 2,000 points.

On this basis, assuming you’d only generate a few pounds of vouchers per quarter, you are likely to be better off by activating auto-convert for a while and seeing how it goes.

You can see details of this new Tesco / Virgin Points bonus on the Virgin Flying Club / Tesco Clubcard page here.

  • Simon Schus says:

Ugh. I’m flying LHR-CLT next week with AA. Slightly dreading the BA lounge in T3. Any news on if BA Galleries First will be open in T3?

    • Simon Schus says:

Ignore… I don’t think there is a Galleries First in T3. I think I’m getting confused with the CX Lounge.

      • Maciek says:

There is a GF in T3. Whether or not it will be open is a different question.

      • John says:

There definitely was a GF in T3 a few years ago – did it close pre covid?

        • Save East Coast Rewards says:

It’s still there (whether it’s open now is another question). Before I discovered the CX lounge I’d often be in the champagne bar before flying to Prague. I’d also use this lounge if I was travelling in the morning and wanted an English breakfast

        • Rob says:

There was a First Class side, yes. Pretty poor though.

          • Simon Schus says:

Thank you for the correction, all! It has been so long that I visited the BA lounge that I just couldn’t remember. Will see if it is open by the time I’m going through at the end of next week.

    • Save East Coast Rewards says:

Stop being so dramatic, there’s nothing wrong with the BA lounges in T3. Yes, the CX and QF lounges were much nicer but the BA lounges are similar to their T5 versions. I’d rather the BA lounges open than the AA ones (although it would be nice to have the choice of all of them).

What you should be dreading is the possibility this article is wrong and that none of the lounges are open. T3 is awful without the lounges.

      • Rob says:

        Agree with that ranking!

      • Andrew says:

The BA GF lounge at T3 is a soulless place with low quality food and drink – good magazine selection to take away, that was the only reason I went in there and was always shocked as to why anyone was in there rather than the CX First Lounge.

        • Save East Coast Rewards says:

Not everyone knows they can use the CX lounge (when it’s open) and if they did it would soon become a crowded hellhole.

        • John says:

It was the same quality as T5. If you rated that as low quality fair enough

  • TimM says:

Is there a guide anywhere to how best use a small number of Virgin Points, e.g the 2,000 bonus and a rolling number of Clubcard points auto-converted?

    • BJ says:

Lots of options on tge Virgin Red app. Just check the spend tile to see what’s possible with under 10k. Options include flights, wibe, education and experiences.

    • Sandgrounder says:

You could get 10 sausage rolls from Greggs.

    • the_real_a says:

The sweetspot is the breakfast greggs deal. Bacon or sausage sandwich and coffee. 400 points there or there abouts.

  • BJ says:

Are people still getting multiple autoconversion bonuses? My partner didn’t get the last and I didn’t get the last two.

  • roberto says:

PriorityPass link now working thanks …
Signed up for my dad, billed to my card.
    Gotta look after your olds…..

  • Christopher says:

I’m assuming if the lounge will be open that they’ll be accepting Finnair passengers when I’ll be flying next week?

  • Lady London says:

If BA is reopening the lounge in T3 then their confidence is growing. Perhaps on US routings as only JFK is being kept in T5.

As Rob hinted yesterday once the US opens up BA will view the world has opened up. So anyone with a flight they’re thinking of taking an FTV for, be alert as confidence in upcoming cashflow would mean sooner than later withdrawal of FTV opportunity

    • sigma421 says:

I can’t see them withdrawing it for flights already booked. The April deadline hasn’t been moved though so I expect that’s the wind down date as things stand.

    • ChrisC says:

BA has extended BWC to August 2022 and use FTV by August 2023

Was posted earlier in the thread today.

Hopefully Rob / Rhys will do an update thread.

  • WillPS says:

You’d need to pass up on Clubcard Christmas Savers in order to get that Virgin bonus. No deal.

    • Genghis says:

      Why?

I keep normal vouchers on during the year and then turn on xmas saver just before the deadline in October to top up the £200 per account to get the free £12.

      • WillPS says:

In order to get the Christmas Saver bonus, you need to have Christmas Savers enabled as your voucher choice for the November statement.

You can’t have both that and Virgin enabled.

        • Genghis says:

Of course. You’re right. The bonus now comes after the statement deadline vs the old days when you could turn it on, still get the autoconvert bonus without actually autoconverting, and then turn it to xmas saver in time for the statement and xmas saver deadline.

  • sigma421 says:

t3f.yourmenu.cloud is now up and running so looks like it’s open, including the First side
