We are running this daily chat thread on Head for Points during the coronavirus outbreak.

Historically, the daily ‘Bits’ articles were the de facto repository for random comments and questions.  With the news flow being lighter, we are running fewer ‘Bits’ articles.

The comments under this article are where you should post questions about travel and, indeed, anything else on your mind.  At this tricky time, and given that many of you are at home, we want the HfP community to have a place to chat.

Please only comment under the main articles on the site if your comment is directly related to the topic of the article.  This has long-term benefits as it keeps the commentary relevant for people who read those articles in the future.

Old chat threads are hidden from the HfP home page.  If you want to look for something in an old thread, click here.  This brings up all the articles in our ‘General’ category which includes the chat threads.

Good question. Can you run the Hilton card via any Barclaycard app? This is probably the only way to access them.

  • bafan says:

I came back from Chania last night somewhat suddenly – did my antigen test at Iasis hospital for €20. I’d say it took about 45 mins total then about 3 hours for the results but great same day turnaround. I had a Qured kit in my bag but they didn’t have any same day appointments so I’d highly recommend Iasis to anyone. Also the crew on my (BA) flight looked very happy to be back at work (I know some crew have recently been unfurloughed), and it was a very nice flight.

Also as an aside, I was looking at going to Bucharest and now all the BA flights have vanished until September and Blue Air are doing rescue fares. How annoying!

    • Peggerz says:

Thanks for this Bafan. Hope to be in Chania soon-ish.

    • Gary says:

Sorry if it has been discussed…. Was the whole plane tested when you arrived in Crete from UK? Or just random?

      • bafan says:

So we discussed this a bit the other day. UK flights seems to be getting tested. I arrived from Stockholm, and I saw them take a few people to be randomly tested but the rest of us went through very quickly with just cursory looks at the documentation (in my case, a vaccine certificate). Flying back to the UK they asked to see my PLF at the desk (never been asked that before, usually they check you’ve done it and that’s that).

Is using amex at paypoint still possible? Never used paypoint but my mom wanted her tv license done, do you just go to coop, tell them what you want to pay then stick the amex in and hope no one notices? 🙂

    • Save East Coast Rewards says:

When I used to do that I’d buy some shopping too. Less likely to get noticed

    • Rui N. says:

On my local coop no one cares if you pay paypoint by card. And I’ve seen other people do it as well (usually debit cards).
But be careful on the “type” of coop you try this, on some amex is not accepted for paypoint.
Tv licence due next month so I’ll also pay mine with amex 🙂

    • Alan says:

Worked last week, just tell them to put through multiple £200 transactions to reach whatever value you want.

      • Rui N. says:

The tv licence is expensive, but it’s not multiples of £200…

        • mvcvz says:

Anyone who thinks the UK television licence is expensive has a remarkably unusual definition of “expensive”.

          • Rui N. says:

Well, it’s more expensive than Netflix or Disney+. It’s also more expensive than almost all (or maybe all) similar tv licences in other countries.

Got an IHG free night to use at some point. It says “booking period Jul 23 2020 – Feb 8 2022”

Does that mean as long as I make the booking by Feb 8 it’s valid I.e I could book a date in May 2022

Or must I book and stay before Feb 8th?

    • Save East Coast Rewards says:

The wording seems quite clear that’s when you need to book by, not stay by. It’s years since I’ve done anything with IHG but my experience in the past was also that these things it was when you booked that counts. That’s why I found it very odd that the BA vouchers are travel by rather than book by.

    • Clubx says:

I have the same expiry date as you. For what I found when trying to book is that you must book and stay by the expiry date as I had no luck seeing voucher availability beyond that date

    • Benilyn says:

Is it from creation credit card, if so it’s book by

      • Lee says:

I think it’s stay by now as I couldn’t see any availability after the expiry date

    • Anna says:

Sounds like you’ve got an extended voucher, they are book by dates.

      • Clubx says:

I have two vouchers with one that expires on 8 Feb and another 23 July 2022. When trying to use both vouchers at once the furthest I am redeem the vouchers together was 7 Feb 2022. Maybe I am missing something but seems to be stay by as well.

        • Jimmy says:

Thats annoying if that’s the case. It really should book by with Covid.

  • Peter Taysum says:

    Morning,

I transferred 50 000 Avios to Nectar on 22nd July. I figured they would show up today; ten days later. The transaction shows on my BAEC a/c on 22nd.

    Has anyone else experienced problems?

    Cheers,

    • PaulH says:

… mine came through today – transferred on 22nd July and OH came in yesterday – same transfer date.. so I am sure yours will be with you anytime now

  • mart says:

looking for car hire for a week from larnaca airport anyone any ideas i am seeing companies on the comparison sites i have never heard of?

    • Mikeact says:

Regardless of who you use, do make sure re insurance. Last time we were there, they tried to sell me their own insurance. To get it down to 0 excess, nearly cost as much as the rental. We now use a UK annual policy which is highly recommended.

      • MW says:

This is always the way to do it. Before I had Amex Platinum, I had an annual excess refund insurance policy. Makes sense even if you rent only once a year.

    • AJA says:

3 years ago I used Enterprise, they are off airport but with free shuttle. Didn’t do hard sell. I always go for major companies and smallest car as i find them easier to park everywhere. On airport you will find Budget, Avis and Sixt. Of those I’d choose Budget even though I’ve got Avis Preferred membership. I think you get a discount through BA.

  • YH says:

Is the Eurostar Business Premier lounge open in Paris at the moment? Will be going through next Sunday and unsure if I should book in the higher class.

  • Kai says:

Thanks, works for my Hilton card.
