The HfP chat thread – Sunday 1st August

We are running this daily chat thread on Head for Points during the coronavirus outbreak.

Historically, the daily ‘Bits’ articles were the de facto repository for random comments and questions.  With the news flow being lighter, we are running fewer ‘Bits’ articles.

The comments under this article are where you should post questions about travel and, indeed, anything else on your mind.  At this tricky time, and given that many of you are at home, we want the HfP community to have a place to chat.

Please only comment under the main articles on the site if your comment is directly related to the topic of the article.  This has long-term benefits as it keeps the commentary relevant for people who read those articles in the future.

Old chat threads are hidden from the HfP home page.  If you want to look for something in an old thread, click here.  This brings up all the articles in our ‘General’ category which includes the chat threads.

I want to travel now but what happens if you take a test abroad before flying back to the UK and you test positive with no symptoms? You would have to isolate abroad and pay the cost yourself or does travel insurance cover that.

    • HBommie says:

You need to check with your provider.

    • Harry T says:

A good question for your travel insurance provider!

    • Will says:

Take a lateral flow with you and do it prior to your actual test.

If positive, lay low for 24hr and repeat as neccesary.

Unlikely you’ll test positive for long if not symptomatic.

Just checking but with new Qatar bookings you can book still for a full refund up until May 2022?? Cheers Ash

  • Grimz says:

I have a flight booked to Phoenix in September on a 241 BA voucher which is likely to be cancelled. I don’t want to go now until November 2022 which will be outside the 12months rebooking window. If I ask to be rebooked for November 2021 and that gets cancelled can I then ask to be rebooked for November 2022? The other issue I have is that my voucher expires in November 2021.

I never thought of anyone nicking a hotel TV. I must lack imagination! Is that really worthwhile nowadays, given what a crappy stolen TV would sell for and the time/hassle in taking it off the wall and sneaking it past the front desk?

I can understand smaller old TVs, but even in a hotel refurbished less than a year ago they did the thing of putting in a 40″ TV where it’s too small to comfortably view from the bed! If these are from a limited ‘hotel’ range that makes more sense though.

    • Tony1 says:

Its the hotel mattresses that they take now, apparently for some reason. ( Swap )

      • AnotherUser says:

Now I want to know how you’d get a mattress out of a hotel without anyone spotting you!

    • Manya says:

I don’t understand how stolen bathrobes can be charged to your credit card but TVs not?

  • Lewis says:

If I book a one way journey as soon as reward seats open, is there an amendment fee to add the return when they open?
    Thanks

  • Harry says:

Can you change just the date of the return leg of a BA cash booking? I can’t do it online.

  • R says:

AC Manchester City centre or Hampton by Hilton Manchester Northern Quarter?

I have spent a lot of time reading reviews, but the ‘average’ Tripadvisor/Booking.com users are slightly different to HfP readers.
