The HfP chat thread – Saturday 31st July

We are running this daily chat thread on Head for Points during the coronavirus outbreak.

Historically, the daily ‘Bits’ articles were the de facto repository for random comments and questions.  With the news flow being lighter, we are running fewer ‘Bits’ articles.

The comments under this article are where you should post questions about travel and, indeed, anything else on your mind.  At this tricky time, and given that many of you are at home, we want the HfP community to have a place to chat.

Please only comment under the main articles on the site if your comment is directly related to the topic of the article.  This has long-term benefits as it keeps the commentary relevant for people who read those articles in the future.

Old chat threads are hidden from the HfP home page.  If you want to look for something in an old thread, click here.  This brings up all the articles in our ‘General’ category which includes the chat threads.

Hi does anyone know if the Amex offer for Hilton £200 spend £50 back is cumulative or singular spend? Thanks

  • Points says:

Is there a quicker to know if the transaction has been passed as Cash or Purchase for Creation or VA with Curve Metal. Do i need to call customer service ?

    • Genghis says:

Yes, you need to call and tell them what you’ve been doing. They’ll then let you know.

    • Jimmy says:

Nope – keep an eye on your statement online – sometime a fee will show straight away – sometimes at the end of month.

Obvs Gemnghis was joking about calling them!

  • TJ says:

As an Ambassador member, if I book an IHG Lux Life rate at an IC hotel via Emyr, do I also get the Ambassador benefits in addition those offered by Emyr, e.g. the $20 F&B credit, guaranteed room upgrade, and 4pm check-out? Is a double upgrade feasible?

    • Rob says:

In my experience you do get a double upgrade (and you certainly get your Ambassador benefits) but it isn’t written anywhere.

  • Billy says:

Haven’t read all 218 posts so sorry if this has been covered. The Avios to Nectar transfer is back online, but it isn’t instant.

I think the online transaction is simply a form to save a phone call and then someone verifies.

My email confirming the transfer said to allow up to 10 working days (although in my experience it’s usually around 3 or 4 days).

    • Bill says:

I called about two weeks ago and the transfer was done later same day iirc

  • Billy says:

BA cancelled my BA flight from Inverness to Heathrow last August with two days notice.

They say they won’t pay EU261 because the route was suspended due to COVID but I know got a fact it wasn’t, as they operated a week later.

I can’t seem to get them to admit this. Is there a historical “flights flown” website? I’ve searched and can’t seem to find it.

    • Optimus Prime says:

I think ExpertFlyer shows the cancellation reason.

      • meta says:

Note this was last year, so it won’t show that far in the past. I think that the only way to know is to submit a request to the ATC (airport traffic control) which might be rather difficult.

    • Lady London says:

If they said the *route* was suspended due Covid and then it ran a week later there’s some chance IMO they can get away with that excuse depending on the pattern of flights they ran around that time. Personally I wouldn’t pursue it. I suspect the CAA may be obliged to keep or receive such records.

On the other hand I hope you didn’t just meekly take a refund unless you wanted it and exercised your full duty of care rights including rerouting instead.

      • Billy says:

I had to get back to London, thankfully LNER were offering £50 tickets for first class and that train was delayed so I received a full refund for the train and a future travel voucher for the flight. British Airways did not offer any assistance with rerouting.

Anyone travelled to Portugal (mainland) recently? Is Qured or Prenetics fine for antigen test? The Portuguese government website says self-collected antigen tests are not accepted which theoretically Qured and Prenetics one are. Qured certificated does say done by video consultation.

    • Babyg says:

We did a in clinic DAM-health.com (lateral flow antigen) which cost £29 and was accepted, to be fair they didnt seem to look that closely the details of the test, just looked for the negative antigen stuff…

      • Babyg says:

ps this was for faro and was checked by BA checking in staff and faro immigration staff (briefly)

        • meta says:

Thanks. I still prefer at home test, so I have ordered Qured one. Hopefully it will be ok.

    • r* says:

Whats the link to the site that says self collected arent valid? Im sposed to be going this week and was planning on using a prenetics

      • meta says:

This is the EU document that is referenced everywhere including Portuguese government.

        https://ec.europa.eu/health/sites/default/files/preparedness_response/docs/covid-19_rat_common-list_en.pdf

It says “conducted by trained healthcare professional or trained operator…”

I think Qured one is ok, but now I’ve changed my mind, I am going to go to the local centre. They are doing fit to fly antigen tests with DAM Health as @Babyg suggested and it’s only 15-minute walk. Just don’t want TAP saying it’s self-administered despite and not letting us board. I can reuse Qured for another trip in Sept.

  • Wally1976 says:

Hi all, just wondering if anyone on here has completed the Greek passenger locator form? It only asked for vaccination/covid test information for myself and not the other 3 family members I entered. Is that correct?

    • Sam says:

Yup was correct for me, got glanced at in the airport in Greece then they looked at NHS app and let us through

    • Blue Mountain says:

Yes, that’s correct. It’s a bit strange but had no issues. Just make sure you have the required certificates. Ours were checked closely at check in in the UK and barely at ATH. Flight was 17th July.

    • Wally1976 says:

      Thanks both 👍

    • John says:

Some arriving flights are being sent for testing at random

  • Mco says:

Looking for car hire in Santorini. Someone mentioned a good and cheaper website here a few weeks ago. Anyone remember the name?

    • David says:

Just use the bus – it works.

    • Yorkieflyer says:

Using Kronos now picked up from port and thought we were heading into a Breaking Bad experience picking up car from farm but all good so far at €33 per day
