The HfP chat thread – Thursday 29th July

We are running this daily chat thread on Head for Points during the coronavirus outbreak.

Historically, the daily ‘Bits’ articles were the de facto repository for random comments and questions.  With the news flow being lighter, we are running fewer ‘Bits’ articles.

The comments under this article are where you should post questions about travel and, indeed, anything else on your mind.  At this tricky time, and given that many of you are at home, we want the HfP community to have a place to chat.

Please only comment under the main articles on the site if your comment is directly related to the topic of the article.  This has long-term benefits as it keeps the commentary relevant for people who read those articles in the future.

Old chat threads are hidden from the HfP home page.  If you want to look for something in an old thread, click here.  This brings up all the articles in our ‘General’ category which includes the chat threads.

Using Clubcard pay at Tesco – does it give total 2 points per £, similar to Tesco debit card?

    • Anttelli says:

Only for the first 100 days from opening the account.

      • Genghis says:

Afterwards, it’s useless. You’ll only get 1 Clubcard point, the same as just using a Clubcard, and get nothing for the payment.

      • Jonathan says:

Not true guys, it’s 1 point per £1 spent in Tesco after the promotional period ends, exactly the same like their current account debit card which will closed by the end of November.

Their credit cards only earn 1 point per £4 spent in Tesco, if you’ve got their legacy invitation only credit card, it’s 1 point per £2 spent in Tesco. All cards issued by Tesco earn 1 point per £8 spent everywhere else.

The Tesco Clubcard pay account is worth it if you like Virgin Atlantic Flying club points, or you find other useful redemptions from using Clubcard

        • Genghis says:

          Is that what actually happens?

This isn’t what the terms say:

“ Your Clubcard Pay debit card is also your Clubcard, so you’ll collect your normal 1 Clubcard point for every £1 spent in Tesco (in-store and online). You’ll also collect 1 Clubcard point for every £8 spent outside Tesco.

3 month offer: for the first 3 months (100 days, to be exact) after you open your Clubcard Pay account, you’ll collect 2 Clubcard points for every £1 you spend using your Clubcard Pay debit card on qualifying products in Tesco and on Tesco Fuel (excludes Esso). That’s 1 extra Clubcard point for every £1 you spend. After 100 days, you’ll go back to the standard Clubcard points collection rate for using Clubcard Pay in Tesco and on Tesco Fuel (1 Clubcard point for every £1 spent).”

        • TGLoyalty says:

So you were getting 3/£ for 1st 100 days and now getting 2/£?

          • Harrier25 says:

Is this card really worth getting out of bed for? I think not!

          • Anttelli says:

I’ve had the card for 2 months now and only getting double points and 1 point per £8 spend outside of Tesco.

          • TGLoyalty says:

            3 clubcard/£ I’d go to tesco more!

  • Sam says:

Arrived in Kos, through passport control and checks within 20mins…covid checks included a glance at the NHS app and verbally confirming a PLF completed. They seem very happy to have tourists!

  • Ian says:

I’m trying to work out an amex strategy for a friend. They’ve never had an amex but not in a position to refer so can’t follow the HFP couple’s guide. Would best strategy at the moment for a newbie be Marriot – Platinum – BA Premium in that order for bonuses, adding on supplementary cards. Is there a special bonus for Platinum sign ups at the moment?

    • TGLoyalty says:

Yes re strategy. And yeah 70k for plat sign up via some

No reason you can’t be their partner and get atleast a referral for Marriott and BAPP (you’d want to use 70k link from a lucky fellow friend or even HfPer)

    • Rob says:

Yes, still that order whilst Marriott has the 40k going. There are 70k Platinum referral bonuses that a few people have.

  • ScienceTeacher says:

Anybody paid with 2 Amex cards at a Hotel for the Hyatt offer?

    • TGLoyalty says:

Seen comments where people have paid 4

Really isn’t an issue I’ve used 6 at a Marriott

    • Harry T says:

When I stayed at Great Scotland Yard in June, I paid for two separate rooms on the same folio and split the bill across four Amex cards with the offer saved on them. Hotel didn’t mind at all and the offer was triggered on all four cards.

      • Harrier25 says:

More profitable than paying with that silly Tesco Pay Clubcard prepay crappy thingy! 😂

  • Clive says:
