ENDS SUNDAY: Get 20% off ALL British Airways flights to May 2022 in an Olympic flash sale

Timed to coincide with the opening ceremony for the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games, British Airways – Official Airline Partner of Team GB and Paralympics GB – has launched a flash sale.

You can save 20% off all flights booked between now and midnight on Sunday.

Full details of the sale are on this special page of ba.com.

British Airways A350

How does the sale work?

The sale is only available to British Airways Executive Club members.

What this means is you must log in to your BA account before you start to book, or the code will be rejected.

The discount is only available on trips which begin in the UK.

You need to use the following promotional codes when booking:

  • TeamGB1 for short haul flights – £100 spend needed
  • TeamGB2 for long haul flights – £300 spend needed

Obviously the codes only work when booking at ba.com or via a British Airways call centre.

There is a slight niggle in how the codes work looking at reports. If you have a child on your booking, and the child ticket is under £100 / £300 even though the adult tickets are not, you cannot use the code. This seems a bit weird to me – surely it would have made more sense to allow the discount on the adult tickets and just ignore the child tickets?

Is the discount off the base fare or the full fare?

Impressively, it is off the full fare. This means that you are getting a 20% discount on the taxes, fees and charges too.

Here is an example based on an economy flight to Berlin:

Can I use ‘part pay with Avios’ as well?

No. The ability to reduce the cost of the flight with Avios disappears once you have input the discount code.

Are all flights and classes included?

You get the discount on all British Airways operated and marketed flights, including BA CityFlyer services from London City and Southampton.

It will not work on codeshare partners such as Loganair or flights on franchise partners such as Comair.

All travel classes are included except First Class.

Can you use a Future Travel Voucher?

Looking at the comments below, yes.

This means, of course, that you could refund an existing flight (the voucher usually appears immediately) and then rebook, assuming you save money.

What are the travel dates?

You must fly between 1st August 2021 and 25th May 2022. This seems surprisingly generous as it includes Christmas, February half-term for ski trips and Easter 2022.

Full details of the British Airways flash sale and the small print are on ba.com here.

    I suspect a sale in a month’s time will be cheaper……..

    • ChrisC says:

Book now and if it is cheaper in a future sale then cancel for FTV and then rebook!

As long as flights completed by 30th April 2022 when BWC (currently) ends

  • Josh says:

What’s the best number to contact BA regarding a FTV refund since it won’t let me do it online?

    Thanks

  • simonbr says:

Thanks for flagging this Rob, I would’ve missed it. HfP has yet-again saved me a wad of hard-earned dosh!

  • Paul says:

Just about to book a back up trip to Canada incase USA doesn’t love us in time for scheduled trip. One of the party is very price sensitive, so I need 4 tickets, but in different travel classes, which I seem to remember I can’t do online, and will have to phone. My question is, can I do a multiple traveller different fare class booking on the same booking reference (for ease of managing/changing/cancelling) or will BA split it anyway, in which case we’ll all book online and add me as an authorised person to be able to manage the entire multiple bookings…? Thanks…
Also, if we do cancel it all and it was on one booking, will the FTV be tied to ALL travellers (4) or can I use it without 2 or 3 of the others?

    • ChrisC says:

You can’t mix bookings like that

Everyone on the same booking needs to be in the same cabin, same dates etc

So your separete bookings and be an authorised user on your friends account is the way to go.

IIRC the names in an FTV are tied to the original booking and need to be on the new booking the voucher is used for,

      • Tony says:

That’s the case on flight only bookings but on holidays only one name has to match, which is useful!

  • Mark says:

I am guessing that upgrading with Avios and BA holidays is out of the quesiton?

  • IanM says:

How long before we see a Virgin 20% off code GALACTIC20 ?

  • Mrs_Fussy says:

What happens if I book a flight to Maldives and it gets cancelled by BA. Do I only get an FTV or change of date my choice. Also, if Maldives remains on the red list, how long before the flight do I need to cancel ?

    • ChrisC says:

If BA cancel you can also get a full refund if that’s what you want.

But if you want to change the dates after the cancellation check to see if the price has gone down and if it has take the refund and rebook at the lower price. If it’s gone up then BA eat the costs.

To get an FTV you need to cancel no later than hour before the scheduled departure to get an FTV (but you wouldn’t leave it that late in case of phone or web issues)

  • Baji Nahid says:

Any deals available? its like they’ve raised the prices to many destinations and not much of a bargain to be had, apart for those who have booked previously before the offer.
