We are running this daily chat thread on Head for Points during the coronavirus outbreak.

Historically, the daily ‘Bits’ articles were the de facto repository for random comments and questions.  With the news flow being lighter, we are running fewer ‘Bits’ articles.

The comments under this article are where you should post questions about travel and, indeed, anything else on your mind.  At this tricky time, and given that many of you are at home, we want the HfP community to have a place to chat.

Please only comment under the main articles on the site if your comment is directly related to the topic of the article.  This has long-term benefits as it keeps the commentary relevant for people who read those articles in the future.

Old chat threads are hidden from the HfP home page.  If you want to look for something in an old thread, click here.  This brings up all the articles in our ‘General’ category which includes the chat threads.

About to cancel 3 Y seats to Palma …out 24/07, back 03/08 for anyone who might be on the hunt.

    • Thywillbedone says:

Seems I have to call to cancel, may be a while before I can get through…will update.

      • Thywillbedone says:

So, the call centre won’t take my call (too busy to even queue it seems) but sends me to ba.com where I have already estabished I can’t cancel the booking. An utter joke that companies are still leaning on COVID for dreadful service. Any workarounds welcome.

        • Sam G says:

Twitter DM or call first thing tomorrow AM

        • AJA says:

Or you could wait until closer to the date and see if BA cancels the flight which will open up much more options per (EC)UK261 and allow you to rebook at your convenience for a later date. Also if BA cancels then you don’t pay the per passenger cancellation fee.

        • ankomonkey says:

In a very similar position. I called yesterday upon opening and still couldn’t get through within 1 hour. I no longer have status but am tempted to call the bronze or silver BAEC line. I’m not quite gold material so probably won’t try my luck on that line…

          • Thywillbedone says:

Don’t bother calling the bronze or silver line unless you are in that tier. I called the silver line by accident as I want to cancel these Mallorca avios flights and re-book into a First service. I was told I need to call the Blue tier line (which I currently am). The blue tier number has been bouncing me out of the queue all afternoon. Tried DMs to Twitter to no avail. Not particularly urgent (yet) but an embarassment of a service. My wife called for a refund to Easyjet earlier this afternoon and was waiting for no more than 5 minutes to get through.

          • Thywillbedone says:

All the more galling that they put you through these hoops when it is all down to the technical limitations of their website that you have to call in the first place. If we could simply cancel an Avios booking online it would free up the operators to handle other queries. But I guess that might require some investment in IT …

          • Anna says:

It wouldn’t need any IT investment, they could just revert back to the original system! They deliberately changed it to stop people getting refunds. I make sure I mention this whenever I have to call BA …

Currently staying at the Radisson Park Plaza County Hall. Flagged up the deal by Rob on HFP a few months ago. Paid £89 as wished the upgrade to a room with view and have been given a suite with kitchenette. £10 for brekkie. Wife thinks I am very clever as can no longer use this hotel on business. Quick shuffle to Waterloo for train home tomorrow. Thanks HFP. Looking forward to the Sheraton Suite deal in October😀

Anyone been through Stanstead recently? Anything open/tips to kill some time? Nervous about queues, etc so will be there with plenty of time. I think PP lounge only opens next week

Flying back Majorca on 31 July, and then leaving for Greek Island on 2 August. Is there any smart idea on how to deal with the testing, as seems like we will have to book tests on return for Majorca which we won’t be able to use – is it possible to use those tests instead on the return from Greek Islands? Havent travelled in awhile so never been through the ‘test on return’ process.

    • Pablo says:

Book a £2.49 test from 1010labs for your return from Mallorca and use their reference number on PLF.

Just finishing devouring ‘Miles Maniac’, the frequent flyer hacker book by Steve Belkin, as highlighted by Rob recently https://hfp2022.headforpoints.blog/2021/07/14/review-mileage-maniac-steve-belkin/
What an entertaining read – he certainly scaled points earning schemes to a whole new level ! I am sure most on here would enjoy as a holiday read too – Thanks for the recommendation Rob 🙂

I’ve just ordered it for my ipad – hopefully to read on the 4 1/2 flight to Tenerife in 2 weeks 🤞🤞🤞

Any news on Chase credit card in UK? I saw people posted new card pic that seems like beta version

    • Youllnever says:

Where did you see this new pic? Don’t think I’ve seen anything atm

      • Lee says:

A blue card with only name and Chase logo on the front. Sounds like it’s under internal testing phase

        • Youllnever says:

Could also just be a debit card for current accounts as well in that case.

    • Alex says:

And following this anyone heard anything about the new Miles and More card?

      • Steven says:

Also wonder whatever happened to the Apple Credit Card that was supposed to be coming to the UK. Think it was a 1% cash back card.

        • Youllnever says:

I think the general consensus was that it wouldn’t really matter much even if it did arrive here, because the cash back component would near definitely won’t be included.

    • Andy says:

No such thing – some employees are currently voluntarily doing a pilot for the bank account only

  • Grant says:

Has anyone used a family connecting room at the Conrad St James. Presumably it is just the base spec rooms (King Deluxe and Twin Deluxe) with an interconnecting door? Prospect of an upgrade seems minimal since the only other room which can accommodate four is a two-bed suite.

Trying to decide between that or a one-bed suite, with sofa bed for kids, at the PP Westminster Bridge.

  • Martha says:

To understand, if you cancel a BA reward flight WITHIN 24 hours of outbound booking, do you get anything refunded? cash or avios? Thanks

    • Rob says:

You get everything back. Beyond 24 hours, you pay a £35 per person fee.

    • AJA says:

Do you mean (a) within 24 hours of first booking the flight or (b) within 24 hours of departure of the outbound flight eg 20 hours before?

For (a) I think you can get everything back (not sure, but I suspect the cancellation fee is still payable). It’s not the same as a cash booking where you can get everything back.

For (b) I think you will have left it too late to get a refund although you can still cancel for a FTV up to 1 hour before departure
