We are running this daily chat thread on Head for Points during the coronavirus outbreak.

Historically, the daily ‘Bits’ articles were the de facto repository for random comments and questions.  With the news flow being lighter, we are running fewer ‘Bits’ articles.

The comments under this article are where you should post questions about travel and, indeed, anything else on your mind.  At this tricky time, and given that many of you are at home, we want the HfP community to have a place to chat.

Please only comment under the main articles on the site if your comment is directly related to the topic of the article.  This has long-term benefits as it keeps the commentary relevant for people who read those articles in the future.

Old chat threads are hidden from the HfP home page.  If you want to look for something in an old thread, click here.  This brings up all the articles in our ‘General’ category which includes the chat threads.

Does the IC Park Lane have twin rooms (or can the King beds be made up as 2 singles)? Only 1 bed and suites coming up when I search in September.

    • TGLoyalty says:

yes unfortunately I found out they do have twin rooms that they do stitch together as uncomfortable “kings” just emial them to enquire

some old defunct preference setting in the IHG profile that you couldn’t change but the hotel could some how see. got that sorted via twitter in the end as no other bugger could change it

      • Anna says:

        Thanks TG!

      • Save East Coast Rewards says:

There is some setting in my Hilton profile saying I prefer rooms with just a shower rather than a shower over the bathtub, that is no longer exposed via the website. That used to be my preference, every house/flat I’ve had in the UK has had a bathtub with a shower in it so it was nice to just walk into a shower in the hotel. My place in Italy only has a shower so I now love a room with a bath. In most hotels it doesn’t seem to matter, but some hotels have rooms of the same type but some have baths and others just showers.

    • Andy says:

Has been a while since I last visited, but used to stay quite often for work and from memory the beds had king mattresses rather than 2 singles. Also the bedframe and headboard was usually a king frame rather than 2 single frames you could roll around the room. But to be fair I never asked for a twin room

  • Mikeact says:

Had an email overnight from a US colleague, who on booking a Hilton through their site, added on a credit card fee ? Things to come over here maybe.

    • Peter K says:

It’s illegal in this country to add on a credit card fee, so no it won’t happen.

    • Rob says:

      Illegal in the UK though.

      • SteveJ says:

Not illegal? AFAIK it’s illegal to profit from it, not illegal to pass on the cost

  • 747_Brat says:

    Per eBay T&Cs:
You can create vouchers in 500 point increments, up to 40,000 points (£200) per voucher.

Question: Can you use multiple £200 vouchers to buy something off eBay or is the use of voucher restricted to a maximum of £200 per transaction?

    • RD says:

You can definitely use multiple vouchers in one transaction – i used multiple £200 vouchers earlier this year when buying an iphone

  • Oli says:

I will use a Lloyds upgrade voucher for 2 people on a one-way RFS flight (yes i know, not the best use of it, but we don’t want to fly outside Europe). We will be 4 to travel – any idea if we can be booked all 4 on the same PNR when I call to use the upgrade voucher (the other 2 people will also buy Avios tickets)? I’m asking because then we’d all 4 benefit from my BA Silver benefits.

    • Anna says:

Lloyds voucher bookings are done manually so it’s very likely they CAN do this, you might just need to find an accommodating CSA. I had to call avios.com last week and got through straight away around this time.

  • Tony Soprano says:

Hi guys sorry a very basic question this morning.
If my dad has an AMEX Business Gold card is he still eligible for the new cardmember offer on the personal AMEX Gold card (he has not held one previously).
Just wanted to confirm before I refer him, many thanks!

  • MattB says:

Regarding taking a voucher from BA if we want to cancel, I have a one way flight which I paid in Euros. If i were to request a voucher would that only be valid against another booking which would also have to be in Euro?

Cant get through to ask and online FAQs just say you can combine vouchers of different currencies

    • Bagoly says:

Highly unlikely to be restricted by currency – many airlines (although not BA as far as I remember) allow you to choose currency of payment as part of the payment process.

That FAQ suggests to me that it is 99.9% certain that you could use it for a booking originating from a non-EUR country.

    • Andy says:

Not in my experience, I had some travel vouchers in euros and they simply converted them into the currency of your new booking when you call to use it (presumably the same for evoucher but in my case they were travel vouchers so had to do it via phone). I also used two separate EUR and GBP vouchers a few months ago for a new GBP booking, and it wasn’t an issue

      • Ikaz says:

Same experience as Andy, they convert the voucher to the new booking currency when you rebook, I have used EUR and GBP vouchers interchangeably

    • John says:

They will all be converted to the currency of the flight you book at the IATA exchange rate

    • Save East Coast Rewards says:

I’ve just used an EUR eVoucher online to book a flight in GBP. My voucher was converted to pounds and the change was issued in pounds. In my case the change was around £7 so nothing major, but it’s worth noting if your eVoucher is worth more than the new flight the subsequent eVoucher is in the currency of the new flight.

Voucher was EUR106.97 and was worth £91.47 Google says it’s worth £91.24 so the exchange rate was reasonable

  • Josh says:

Any recommendations for best places to stay in Mykonos for late september? 4 days –
IHG plat members/120k hyatt points to spend

Any decent redemptions? Would airbnb/cash be better value given that it’s late Sept?

    Thanks!

  • Simon says:

Anyone want a £520 BA evoucher for £475?
