Maximise your Avios, air miles and hotel points

The HfP chat thread – Monday 12th July

We are running this daily chat thread on Head for Points during the coronavirus outbreak.

Historically, the daily ‘Bits’ articles were the de facto repository for random comments and questions.  With the news flow being lighter, we are running fewer ‘Bits’ articles.

The comments under this article are where you should post questions about travel and, indeed, anything else on your mind.  At this tricky time, and given that many of you are at home, we want the HfP community to have a place to chat.

Please only comment under the main articles on the site if your comment is directly related to the topic of the article.  This has long-term benefits as it keeps the commentary relevant for people who read those articles in the future.

Old chat threads are hidden from the HfP home page.  If you want to look for something in an old thread, click here.  This brings up all the articles in our ‘General’ category which includes the chat threads.

Do any uk cards offer insurance for accidental damage for an iPhone? Preferably one that offers replacement headsets rather than sending them off for repair.

    • Rob says:

Curve offers this on premium plans, doesn’t it?

      • Save East Coast Rewards says:

It actually have experience of this. I still have my UK issued Curve metal card. Damaged screen of phone and I took it to the Apple Store for repair or replacement (book an appointment at the so-called genius bar) – they have a fixed price for replacement of the phone (they swap it for your old one). Curve paid for the replacement minus the £50 excess.

Took a little longer than usual because the damage documentation from the Apple Store was in Italian but I imagine it’s a bit quicker if you take in a UK Apple store.

    • Ls says:

The nationwide flex plus account offers this. You have to send it off, but it’s always back within a week. New handset (rather than repair) given.

      • Ls says:

(For apple – they said on the news phone they can’t touch the handsets as Apple won’t let them, and they just replace)

    • mark2 says:

Carefully check the excess on the policy.

    • Tarmohamed says:

Barclays Tech Pack always replaced the wife’s iPhone. They arranged collection of the old phone at the same time they delivered the new phone via DPD

  • Mark says:

No lounge access for Hilton diamond members in the new Hilton Signia branded hotels.

    • TGLoyalty says:

Will they even have a lounge? Didn’t seem to be part of the blurb that they would when they launched the brand.

All about technology and meeting space isn’t it?

  • Super Secret Stuff says:

Just got an email from Nectat promoting the Avios offer. Appears the top prize is 100,000 avios

    • Lady London says:

So…does this mean BA is seeing more avios transferred to Nectar than they would like, so are trying to reverse the trend?

  • Lux says:

Seems JetBlue is running a familiarisation flight tonight JFK to LHR – B69400, can be followed on FlightRadar24

  • MD says:

So far mine have all been within the 24-72 hour range.
