The HfP chat thread – Sunday 11th July

We are running this daily chat thread on Head for Points during the coronavirus outbreak.

Historically, the daily ‘Bits’ articles were the de facto repository for random comments and questions.  With the news flow being lighter, we are running fewer ‘Bits’ articles.

The comments under this article are where you should post questions about travel and, indeed, anything else on your mind.  At this tricky time, and given that many of you are at home, we want the HfP community to have a place to chat.

Please only comment under the main articles on the site if your comment is directly related to the topic of the article.  This has long-term benefits as it keeps the commentary relevant for people who read those articles in the future.

Old chat threads are hidden from the HfP home page.  If you want to look for something in an old thread, click here.  This brings up all the articles in our ‘General’ category which includes the chat threads.

AMEX Referral — but still 90,000 cap so not much use.

From 30 June 2021 to 7 September 2021 you will receive 30,000 bonus Membership Rewards points if your friend, business partner or family member uses the Referral Programme to apply for a Card (Other than the Basic Card) and is approved by 7 September 2021.

    • Harry T says:

What card is this offer on?

      • Rob says:

        Some Plats

        • Track says:

Rob, has this always been the case — no Welcome Bonus on Business Plat/Gold if you hold any Membership Rewards card, including personal?

Note though that you won’t be eligible for a Welcome Bonus award if you currently hold a Membership Rewards enrolled American Express Card, or have held one in the past six months.

    • Iain says:

Can a UK cardholder refer someone in USA and get the referral bonus?

Emirates A380 – booked in J redemptions LHR-DXB with a baby! Upgrade to F available for 30k per adult. What are peoples thoughts on the F product? It’s the “old” F, not the 777 F experience which I think I would have gone for 100%.

    • Chris says:

If its a day flight and you have the points go for it. The EK business class seats are cramped at best. F there is plenty of room; and f&b is much better. Maybe baby’s first shower at 40k ft too. Night flight if baby sleeps well probably better to wait and redeem later.

      • Andrew says:

EK J food makes BA’s look good – it’s premium economy quality and presentation. Whereas EK F food is decent.

Thank you to @Colin MacKinnon and @Gtellez for all the advice on returning to Scotland. All the paperwork came through this morning. We’re now in lounge in Ibiza, waiting for our flight

    • SteveKicks says:

      What was the advice?

      • Patrycja says:

They both confirmed that I needed to buy Green Covid tests from the official government supplier (and that there is only one supplier for Scotland) and then when the supplier advised that it may take 3 days to send me confirmation (2 days after our return flight) they talked me though the process they went through I.e emails coming through the next morning. Stopped me from panicking last night.

        • SteveKicks says:

I’ll be flying back to Scotland soon and was hoping to take a chance on a private test, good to know that’s not possible. Thanks!

    • Gtellez says:

      Enjoy your trip!

  • Yorkieflyer says:

    Beardie’s back safe and sound

  • Voltron says:

Has someone got an octopus referral?

  • Ikaz says:

You could try erewards, although the Accor sign up was buggy last time I tried

  • YC says:

Any tips/tricks for parking at stanstead? Any codes/partnerships?

    • r* says:

Horrid airport and horrid place to park. Bizarrely, booking on-site short stay as part of a ryanair flight booking was the cheapest I found, was like £46 for 5 days vs about 80 that the airport parking site was quoting.

  • MKB says:

Is the £10 Addison Lee credit on the Platinum Amex, once per calendar month, once per statement period, 28/30/31 days since the last credit, or some other method?
