We are running this daily chat thread on Head for Points during the coronavirus outbreak.

Historically, the daily ‘Bits’ articles were the de facto repository for random comments and questions.  With the news flow being lighter, we are running fewer ‘Bits’ articles.

The comments under this article are where you should post questions about travel and, indeed, anything else on your mind.  At this tricky time, and given that many of you are at home, we want the HfP community to have a place to chat.

Please only comment under the main articles on the site if your comment is directly related to the topic of the article.  This has long-term benefits as it keeps the commentary relevant for people who read those articles in the future.

Old chat threads are hidden from the HfP home page.  If you want to look for something in an old thread, click here.  This brings up all the articles in our ‘General’ category which includes the chat threads.

Just a quick note and a question, applied for the supplementary BAPP this morning the 3000 Avios have posted this PM. Also managed to get in under the wire earlier this week for the Laithwaites Laurent Perrier Rose offer, incredible value at around £33 per bottle. Thanks Rob.

Anyone had th Amex £10 back on £30 spend on M&S food at a BP Service Station, or is it just fuel?

    • Steve S says:

Still not had it back for fuel bought 3rd July

    • Travel Strong says:

All comes down to whether the merchant is in the list of participating locations (see offer details and cross reference post code of the service station), and whether m+s charges from the same merchant code.

  • r* says:

All of the 99p/1.99/4.99/9.99 day 2 tests mentioned earlier have suddenly vanished from the approved govt list.

A new £10 one has appeared that says the testing location is the lhr marriott…

    • Aaron says:

They were clearly gaming the system by appearing top of the list while not being able to be booked. For example I saw a test for £2.99 last week and attempted to book for late July but they claimed to be full. I was actually going to complain to someone about it since it is clearly a bait and switch for their expensive home tests. If I can be bother I will look up who to complain to – maybe even the GMC or HCPC for their medical director/ senior BMS.

    • Super Secret Stuff says:

Goverment digital service is an option to complain too, they run gov dot uk

What has been the average success rate of people who got Virgin Atlantic tickets in the 50% miles sale, had their flight cancelled, and managed to get it moved successfully, without any increase in miles requirement?

    • Reney says:

I did not manage it, it was a full refund or a voucher to hold it and you will have to make up the miles difference when you decided to book. I did not push hard for it, and did not have a date in mind to rebook.

    • Jonathan says:

I kept the 50% price for cancelled CPT flights in January. The provisos were reward availability & during ticket validity so I’ve rebooked for mid November.

      • Lady London says:

reward availability not required, at all, on flight you choose to rebook to.

Ticket validity is slightly more debatable but BA was reported by someone 2 days ago to have lost at CEDR and BA got told to book the passenger’s chosen date further out.

    • Lady London says:

100% if Virgin cancelled your flight they can make no charge whatsoever no miles, no points for replacement dates of your choice. No requirement for there to be only award seats available either, ever – you have a right to any seat in same cabin being sold for cash and at no extra charge to you.

EU261/UK261 overrides any of airlines t’s and c’s or lack of capability, guidelines etc. Will be won consistently at MCOL with all fees (low) back if they refuse.

Don’t fall for it make a note of who said what when, send a Letter Before Action by email or other receipted provable means giving them 14 or 21 days to provide “rerouted” ticket on date requested on themselves or another airline. How you paid for your seats is irrelevant each seat is covered.

Applies to UK/Europe airline, or any airline based anywhere in the world if flight cancelled departs from UK/Europe. Only need one flight cancelled by them to reroute (redate to later of your choice) or refund in full the whole booking and you don’t have to take any voucher.

      • Shaun says:

For flight to Orlando. 1st agent – need to have availability ( there was none) and would need to reprice. 2nd agent could keep the 50%, bit there would need to be flight availability, (there was none), so managed to move to Atlanta on dates we wanted and keep the 50%. Was happy enough given first agent said would need to reprice tickets

        • Lady London says:

sorry Shaun see above Virgin was telling you rubbish.

Having said that, you did quite well in finding something they would move you to without illegally refusing

    • Eoc says:

I did . What’s app from VA CS suggested I’d need to add double amount of points but a firm No. mentioning MCOL and CEDR did the trick. Couldn’t go a year forward on ticket but got end of May 22 which was their booking calendar forward extent. Fair enough .

  • Alex says:

Apology for the trivial question, I am a bit confused, do I still need a pre-departure test for mainland Portugal, being double jabbed?

    • Rob says:

Yes. I know this as I am going myself the week after next.

      • Alex says:

I am traveling straight after school finishes in 2 weeks. If you don’t mind me asking, Rob, are you using colinsons for pre departure and on day 2?
I used them for Madeira trip end of May and happy about service and price 66 with code is alright. However many people here in comment mentioned cheaper options

        • fivebobbill says:

When I travelled to Portugal abut 4 weeks ago a pre departure PCR was required, far as I’m aware this requirement has been dropped and you now only need a cheaper Lateral Flow test 48hrs before departure to get in.

  • 747_Brat says:

Got Spar offer on my current account. Can it be used to pay council tax bill?

  • simon says:

Apologies for the dumb question as I ought to know the answer, but I don’t — bendy/Solihull “SEND” payments to another Bendy user… does this transaction type incur a cash advance (or any other) fee? I can live with interest, mainly as I pay off Solihull same day, but wondered about other fees? Many thanks, all.

  • JM says:

Hi All. Quick Wimbledon question. Has anyone used the Car Park 6 ‘Pay on the Day’ please. Were you able to get a space and was there a queue? Pre-booked parking is closed. Will be driving there tomorrow. Thanks.

Do Hyatt offer any status match ?

    • TGLoyalty says:

I know they do if you work for certain organisations now and again, but no idea which though. My employer doesn’t seem to qualify 45k global employees …

      • Super Secret Stuff says:

90k global employees and don’t quality last time I checked, they must only do it when they get a new exclusivity deal or something similar

    • Rob says:

      No

    • Travel Strong says:

By the back door. Hyatt match Mlife. And Mlife will match most other major Las Vegas casino status…. But none of them really match to hotel schemes right now. Unless you have wyndham rewards status, as Ceasars will match this.
