We are running this daily chat thread on Head for Points during the coronavirus outbreak.

Historically, the daily ‘Bits’ articles were the de facto repository for random comments and questions.  With the news flow being lighter, we are running fewer ‘Bits’ articles.

The comments under this article are where you should post questions about travel and, indeed, anything else on your mind.  At this tricky time, and given that many of you are at home, we want the HfP community to have a place to chat.

Please only comment under the main articles on the site if your comment is directly related to the topic of the article.  This has long-term benefits as it keeps the commentary relevant for people who read those articles in the future.

Old chat threads are hidden from the HfP home page.  If you want to look for something in an old thread, click here.  This brings up all the articles in our ‘General’ category which includes the chat threads.

The Four Seasons spend £1000 get £200 back is available to save on my AmEx Platinum and additional/supplementary cards.

    • Chas says:

      I’ve got £500 / £100 on my Plat

    • iSub says:

I also got the Four Seasons “Spend £1000 or more, get £200” on my BA Amex (the premium one). Eight locations – three each in France and the UK and one each in Spain and Switzerland

      • Magic Mike says:

1000/200 on my ARCC that has had a grand total of £3 spend on it!

  • VerdantBacon says:

Four Seasons offer reappeared on BAPP and Plat, not sure how long it’s been there, but just noticed it this morning.

  • KBuffett says:

I’m looking for a 3-5 day break next week. Can anyone help with suggestions? Prefer 5*. I don’t think I can be bothered with airport queues, so probably UK?

Has anyone been on these UK cruises?

What’s the situation on Eurostar like?

    TIA

    • Harry T says:

City or country? I’m off to Trump Turnberry next week, which I would recommend for a more country based getaway (definitely use Marriott points).

I recently stayed at the Langley – excellent hard product but the service is currently relatively dire and they are very full up. I’d still recommend it though.

City wise, a recent hotel I really appreciated in London was Great Scotland Yard. Very modern and plush hard product, but interesting historical hotel too. Service, food and beverages are on point. They have made a champagne bar on the top floor where you can sit out on the terrace in the sun.

    • YC says:

I have a 3night stay at Padstow Harbour hotel for £270/night next weekend that the hotel has said I can transfer name. I will likely have to accept a 1night cancellation cost given I prefer to do amber now

    • BJ says:

Glenapp Castle in South Ayrshire, Stobo Castle in the Borders, Gleneagles, Hilton Craigendarroch Hotel and lodges in Deeside.

    • Mike says:

KB – you will be v lucky to find any availability (outside London) for anything more than one night, finding two consecutive nights has been a challenge. Apparently demand for UK based holidays is on the increase

    • Jody says:

I’ve been on a 4 night MSC cruise, and have another 3 cruises booked over the summer. Personally I think they’re brilliant, and would definitely consider them a great alternative to a posh hotel break.

For 3 to 5 nights you’d be looking at MSC, P&O, Royal Caribbean and possibly Celebrity. I don’t think Princess have started yet, although worth double checking.

If you have a blue light card there are some fantastic discounts available.

  • Annabel says:

Good morning. If cancelling a reward flight saver Avios flight where ‘taxes’ were just £1 – do you lose just the £1 or charged £35pp and also can you cancel on-line yourself? Many thanks

    • BJ says:

Just £1, only £35 if you paid that or more.

    • Paul says:

Why cancel, take the voucher and rebook that’s free. Indeed many of the more sensible agents will just make the change to save themselves some work.
I had to call BA yesterday and got a genuine human being who managed to navigate his way through the BA morass of rules and still made me laugh out loud.

      • Benilyn says:

That £1 might be worth it to be able to re-book online (if not booking immediately) and avoid the call wait times.

  • aviosnewbie says:

Has anyone tried making a Curve payment to HMRC in the last couple of days? I keep getting an error – after I put the card details, the next page doesn’t show the usual Curve confirmation, and just gets stuck there.

    • Jamie says:

Yes I am having the same problem. I am unsure who to contact (although just did a normal debit card payment and it went through no issues) must be an issue with curve?

    • Chas says:

Yes – me too (see my post at 06:59 below).

    • DC says:

No problems here with Curve to HSBC WEP. Two payments this week without any issues.

  • Mouse says:

Has anyone received a retention bonus for Amex Gold or BAPP recently?

  • LindaP says:

Does anyone know what date BA are cancelling USA flights up to ? Have a Lloyds reward flight booked for early September and cannot see this happening .

Have read though on an American site that there may be a possibility of them opening up after Labor day.

    • Lyn says:

It depend on the destination. Some are currently running on a reduced schedule, like LAX, probably partly for cargo. Others show different starting dates, some of them in mid or late August.

Where is your flight booked to?

  • Chas says:

Is anyone having trouble paying HMRC with Bendy? Was trying to pay my Corp Tax yesterday afternoon and again this morning, but every time I click “pay now” after entering my card details, and the “Contacting your Card Issuer” message appears, the process hangs. No notification from Bendy to approve the transaction, and the message remains on screen ad infinitum.

    • Gary says:

Yes yesterday and today.. hope resolves soon

      • Chas says:

I raised a ticket with HMRC, and have had a response saying that they are aware of the issue and are working “urgently” to correct it. I doubt they’re doing anything to expedite it’s resolution, but it would imply that the issue is at their end, and not at Bendy’s.

        • Chas says:

Following QwertyKnowsBest’s advice at 13:54, I downloaded a new browser (Firefox) and it worked using that where Safari and Chrome had failed.

    • Mummy55 says:

Had the same problem trying to pay P11D earlier this week using Virgin Debit card. Have not yet tried again, but it seems to be a problem with HMRC. not the cards.
