The HfP chat thread – Thursday 8th July

We are running this daily chat thread on Head for Points during the coronavirus outbreak.

Historically, the daily ‘Bits’ articles were the de facto repository for random comments and questions.  With the news flow being lighter, we are running fewer ‘Bits’ articles.

The comments under this article are where you should post questions about travel and, indeed, anything else on your mind.  At this tricky time, and given that many of you are at home, we want the HfP community to have a place to chat.

Please only comment under the main articles on the site if your comment is directly related to the topic of the article.  This has long-term benefits as it keeps the commentary relevant for people who read those articles in the future.

Old chat threads are hidden from the HfP home page.  If you want to look for something in an old thread, click here.  This brings up all the articles in our ‘General’ category which includes the chat threads.

Which lounges are currently open in terminal 1 lhr please? I have BA status

  • Tracy says:

Anyone stayed at Hilton Malta with 4 people in a room. Going with my OH and 2 adult teenagers in one room 😱. Will all four of us get access to executive lounge? I am Hilton Diamond…..will be a bit of a pain if only 2 at a time allowed but I know that is the official policy….

    • Igloo says:

We did 3 in a room and found the room the be spacious enough for us. I don’t know about the lounge.

      • Tracy says:

Thats good to know. Might be a bit of a squeeze with 4 but we will make it work 😂

    • David says:

      Are the teenagers vaccinated?

      • Tracy says:

Yes, they are double jabbed. 2nd jabs were on Monday this week.

    • John says:

They might ask you to pay a supplement, might depend on how many executive guests

  • Optimus Prime says:

Third Amex supplementary card stolen, activated and used in the last 3 months.

I believe I’ve figured out how they’re doing it. When activating it asks for the main cardholder year of birth. If you google my OH name you’ll find her in CompaniesHouse.gov.uk as a shareholder of my business. There you can see my date of birth…

Obviously Amex need to beef their security up or at lest stop using publicly available information to activate cards.

    • KBuffett says:

You’re probably right. But you have zero liability, so no bother. Ask them to courier you the card urgently.

  • WS says:

Quick question on Wimbledon – any idea if they’re still selling centre court returns on the ground? Can get my hands on No.1 court tickets for tomorrow but wondering if there’s any chance of getting into centre court when I’m there.

    • Alex says:

      Not this year.

    • Babyg says:

tickets are popping up all the time on the official website… keep checking (whilst you are there ) you could ask the ticket office whilst you are there too

  • Jack says:

Have a revenue club europe ticket booked from EDI to LHR on Sunday – I want to move it a bit earlier to make sure I am home for the final. The fare difference is very high, (was quoted £700, which is a bit of a joke). Am I right in thinking I can have a same change on the day for no fare difference as long as there is space? It is in ‘I’ class , but I’ve lost the ability to change the ticket online because there have been so many changes/vouchers/etc. The other solution clearly is to take a voucher for the cash ticket and book using avios, but seems a bit of a waste when the cash ticket was a good price.

    • Memesweeper says:

Yes — I think all revenue CE fares are eligible for free same day change. You can call at 00:01 if you’re up late anyway.

      • Jack says:

great thanks, I did speak to BA and they weren’t sure, basically said to try online on the day, but like I said I can’t change online. Just wanted to check that paying with a voucher wouldn’t mean I somehow lost that right.

Shapps has just announced no self isolation requirement for returning travellers from Amber countries from 19th July!

Pre-departure to UK and Day 2 tests still required.

    • ankomonkey says:

This makes me very happy 🙂

    • Sean says:

no isolation for under 18s either.

    • Richie says:

Looks like I’ll have to use my back up flight to the UK on the 19th now.

    • r* says:

Wording on the bbc is odd – “They will still have to take a pre-departure test three days before they go and a PCR test on or before day two.”

Does the ‘pre-departure test three days before they go’ refer to the likes of qured which is done before flying back to uk or does ‘before they go’ refer to the outbound flight leaving uk?

Basically, do I need to order a qured equivalent or not? 🙂

      • The Lord says:

I read it as yes you do

      • Sean says:

As the regulations are in relation to entry INTO the UK then it relates to testing in the 3 days pre-departure to the UK.

Entry to other destinations from the UK subject to the destinations rules.

      • Rich says:

They mean before a flight to the UK. On day of flight, or -1/2/3. Lateral flow.

  • YC says:

Anyone interested in Padstow Harbour hotel for July 17-20? I can transfer my booking if keen (pay at hotel)

  • Jonathan says:

No isolation for Amber if double jabbed from 19th July!
