Hyatt has brought back its Bonus Journeys promotion for the next two months.

It is very lucrative, and it is worth seeing if you can push some stays to Hyatt this Summer – especially if you also have the American Express ‘£100 back on a £250 Hyatt spend’ offer. It would also work with the ‘£100 back on a £300 spend at Small Luxury Hotels’ offer.

How does Hyatt’s new promotion work?

It runs from 20th July to 15th September, and is a very simple one – you will earn triple points on all stays of 2+ nights.

You must register by 20th August.

On the face of it, this is very lucrative:

You earn 5 Hyatt points per $1 spent ….
…. which is 7.0 points per £1
Triple points would mean 21 points per £1 ….
…. which at our valuation of 1.1p per point is a 23% rebate on your ex-VAT spend

As well as Hyatt-branded hotels, it is also valid at participating M life Rewards destinations, Small Luxury Hotels of the World hotels and Lindblad Expeditions.

This will work alongside the American Express cashback deals

For anyone with a ‘get £100 Amex cashback with a £300 spend at Small Luxury Hotels’ offer, or ‘get £100 Amex cashback on £250 spend at Hyatt’ offer, you could do exceptionally well.

You would get 60% back on your spending on a £250 spend when you factor in the Amex cashback and the value of triple points.

If you are wondering why the ‘Small Luxury Hotels’ offer works, it is because many Small Luxury Hotels properties can be booked via the Hyatt website. If you do this, you get some extra benefits including free breakfast. You also earn World of Hyatt points on your stay.

Note that Hyatt’s pricing can often be higher than the hotel’s own website or the Small Luxury Hotels website. Check before booking. However, the lure of triple points and free breakfast for Hyatt bookings may cover a small price gap.

It is VERY hard to earn World of Hyatt points in the UK apart from hotel stays, although you can often buy them at a decent rate when a bonus promotion is running. The scheme is not an American Express Membership Rewards partner. You can transfer your World of Hyatt points to Avios (5,000 Hyatt points convert to 1,250 Avios – increments of 1,250 Hyatt points are needed after that) but clearly this promotion is less useful if you don’t already have an active Hyatt account.

Morning Rob; thinking of booking the Andaz Liverpool Street next weekend for 2 nights. Is there anything major within the embedded Prive story that is out of date before I contact Emyr….?

  I think, needs confirming, that the hotel can now refuse to upgrade if they expect to be full. However this happens within 24 hours of booking so easy to cancel if a deal breaker. Waiting for full confirmation though.

To note regarding Radisson, a lot of members cannot log into their accounts at present due to a system problem arising out of the separation with Radisson Americas, and contacting member services only confirms this – no know ETA for a fix……and we think BA IT is bad….

    I can log in and see everything on my account normally and can book everything normally. However, I have two reservations showing which I booked long time ago and one of which I cancelled in May. I can’t access and see any info on these reservations. I can’t cancel them either. The bookings are not until December, so hopefully it will be sorted by then.

    lucky you – i’m on hold with them now as nothing is working for me (password reset process not working properly). Long time member, never had any issues prior to this – starting to think something more sinister has happened to my account than a generic IT issue…

Correction – upgrades on Hyatt Prive booking are *not guaranteed*. They’re subject to availability based on forecasted occupancy rates.

After booking through Hyatt Prive a few times recently I don’t really see much difference compared to Amex FHR as some hotels refused to proceed an upgrade just because they were expecting to be busy.

  Simple difference – it is confirmed when booking, and if not you can cancel. FHR is on arrival.
  
  Say I want a suite for my 4. O can book 1 level below at a huge saving and wait 24 hours to see if upgrade clears. If it does I am laughing, if not I may cancel.

      It is. Hyatt Prive upgrades are either confirmed within 24 hours of booking, or you are told it will not happen at all – so you cancel (at which point, I reckon, the hotel may reconsider anyway).
      
      Not sure what your issue is. It is slightly less ideal than it was but is still exceptionally generous if you want a specific room type.
      
      The person who is inconvenienced most is Emyr who has to make your booking, watch out the upgrade and then potentially (so no fee) if it doesn’t happen – but it’s his job and he’s perfectly cool about it.

I was unable to register for the offer with either my registered email address or rewards number. I also could not login. Eventually I decided to try https://www.radissonhotelsamericas.com and there my login works fine. It appears that my account, and current balance, has been moved to the US rewards scheme.

Any tips on what to do here? I have no plans to travel so should I wait for them to contact me? Or just open a new non-US account and ask for status match? (My status is via AMEX Platinum.)
