We are running this daily chat thread on Head for Points during the coronavirus outbreak.

Historically, the daily ‘Bits’ articles were the de facto repository for random comments and questions.  With the news flow being lighter, we are running fewer ‘Bits’ articles.

The comments under this article are where you should post questions about travel and, indeed, anything else on your mind.  At this tricky time, and given that many of you are at home, we want the HfP community to have a place to chat.

Please only comment under the main articles on the site if your comment is directly related to the topic of the article.  This has long-term benefits as it keeps the commentary relevant for people who read those articles in the future.

Old chat threads are hidden from the HfP home page.  If you want to look for something in an old thread, click here.  This brings up all the articles in our ‘General’ category which includes the chat threads.

I have BA F reward flights booked to Singapore on August 31st. Has anyone with SIN bookings had them cancelled by BA? I know that we still can’t enter or transit Singapore, but it looks like some flights are still running? It’ll obviously make it easier to re-book for future dates if they’re cancelled. Thanks

    • Sam G says:

Tuesday usually runs currently. Try switching it to M/W/F in Sept best chance for a cancellation

      • Ted says:

        Hello Sam,
Yep, the flights are booked for Tuesday. I’ll try doing what you’ve suggested. Thank you 🙂

        • Sam G says:

Worth saying that BA will only let you rebook out to 1 yr since you booked (unless you get lucky with the website glitching) which may be a limitation since I can’t imagine we’ll get into Singapore for tourism without some form of quarantine until some point next year

If you manage to get a cancellation then you have EC 261 rights to get rebooked to a convenient date but BA won’t do it past 12 months, you’ll be in the realms of small claims etc – some comments elsewhere here today and in previous chats about how to do that

Hello Sam. I believe this booking is already on an FTV, booked roughly a year ago, so I’m hopeful that it has a 24 month usage period attached to it? I think your ‘change to a Monday…’ booking is a great shout though. I’ll give them a call and see what they’re saying. Thank you

    • Sarah says:

I had flights for June 8 and 20 and they both went so I cancelled for a FTV

      • Ted says:

        Hello Sarah,
Thanks for this. I’m going to try switching outbound day for a Monday and see if I can get a cancellation the way Sams suggested. Thank you 🙂

Is anyone able to help tell me the cost of 120k AA miles in the 60% bonus current deal. I’ve had to set up a new account last week as my old email address wasn’t recognised. So I can’t check myself within the first 30 days. Only reason I’m asking is to weigh up whether to buy one way tickets from Bali next year but that means getting there. Hence the cost of 120k AA miles so I know what I’m looking at overall

    Thanks

    • Lyn says:

I’ve just checked for you. Hopefully someone else can check as well in case I’ve made a mistake or the bonus amount is targeted. The bonus % varies with 60% for buying 150 – 160K.

It looks quite expensive, probably more than the miles are worth. You’d have to buy 93K plus 27.9K bonus (30%) = 120.9K miles for $2,999.05.

Thank you! Just pricing a cash fare v redemption options

For those looking for a second go at Wimbledon tickets looks like the rules have changed
Please select the number of tickets for your order. Please be aware that you and your household together are strictly limited to two tickets across the entire Championships. Any additional tickets will be cancelled in accordance with our terms and conditions.

Previously it was per person / email / credit card

    • Rob says:

There is no way to validate that though, realistically.

  • Zoe says:

But Tuesday Court 1 are showing if anyone can go

  • Rupert says:

What’s the best way to extend my 2-4-1 BA voucher? It’s expiring in October…

  • Alex says:

In the market for a Dyson v10, any good offers around?

  • Anthony says:

Is there any fees when using Curve linked to HSBC premier CC for overseas purchases? And what about cash withdrawals? Thanks

    • Sam G says:

Not purchase. Not sure about cash, I think I’ve read somewhere you pay interest from the day you withdraw but not a fee

    • Nigel W says:

Nope regarding purchases (the main reason I have the curve card alongside paying HMRC) and not sure regarding cash withdrawals when aboard.

  • MJ says:

Has anyone paid Solihull with the Hilton Barclaycard? Does this go through as a cash advance or attract other charges?
